College can be a time of great change in one's life: going it alone for the first time in training for the real world. The inclusion of the year in the title of Liu Jian's third feature “Art College 1994” is necessary in that it sets the scene for a changing time in China in terms of pop culture and, of course, art.
Art College 1994 is screening this Friday, April 26 in Metrograph, for an exclusive Week-Long NY Theatrical Run
Two roommates, Xiaojun (Dong Zijian) and Zhifei (Chizi) are art students who spend their days procrastinating, discussing the philosophy of art and the changing scene from classic to Western-influenced modern. Similarly, vocal student Hong (Papi) and piano student Lili (Zhou Dongyu) discuss their futures and possible marriages.
The two pairs mingle, with potential romantic liaisons hinted at, though their hypothetical, philosophical conversations play out in reality, as they come to...

Nicolas Cage comes from one of film’s most esteemed families. His uncle is Francis Ford Coppola (“The Godfather”) and his aunt is actress Talia Shire. Not wanting to appear like his career was the productive of nepotism, when he started acting he took the name Cage from one of his favorite comic book characters, Marvel’s Luke Cage.
Cage’s film career started off quite auspiciously with a small role in the popular comedy “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” when he was just 18 years old. He followed that up with a lead role in the cult classic “Valley Girl.” Both films interestingly dealt with the life of teenagers in the Los Angeles suburbs of the San Fernando Valley.
For his third film Cage would finally agree to work with his uncle when he appeared in Coppola’s “Rumble Fish,” followed the following year by Coppola’s “The Cotton Club.

Clarence Avant, the music executive and film producer who was known unofficially as “The Godfather” of Black entertainment, died on Sunday in his Los Angeles home. He was 92.
“It is with a heavy heart that the Avant/Sarandos family announce the passing of Clarence Alexander Avant,” a statement from his children, Nicole and Alexander, as well as his son-in-law Ted Sarandos read. “Through his revolutionary business leadership, Clarence became affectionately known as ‘the Black Godfather’ in the worlds of music, entertainment, politics and sports. Clarence leaves behind a loving family and a sea of friends and associates that have changed the world and will continue to change the world for generations to come. The joy of his legacy eases the sorrow of our loss.”

Antlers director Scott Cooper‘s serial killer thriller The Pale Blue Eye, which includes legendary writer Edgar Allan Poe among its cast of characters, received a limited theatrical release on December 23rd, and is now set to reach the Netflix streaming service this Friday, January 6th. With its Netflix debut so close, this seemed like a good time to share a batch of character posters that offer a look at the characters that Christian Bale (The Dark Knight), Harry Melling (The Queen’s Gambit), Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), and the great Robert Duvall (The Godfather) play in the film. You can check those out at the bottom of this article.
Based on a novel by Louis Bayard (pick up a copy Here), The Pale Blue Eye has the following synopsis: West Point, 1830. In the early hours of a gray winter morning, a cadet is found dead. But...

Please be advised that in the interests of maintaining contemporaneous consistency I will be referring to WWE as WWF throughout this article. This clarification should prevent you from imagining giant men in spandex fighting pandas for money.
On August the 29th 1992 the WWF came to Wembley Stadium for its annual SummerSlam. It was the first time the organisation had strayed outside the States for an event of this scale, and the reason was purely financial: Vince McMahon and his backers realised that while enthusiasm for the sport was waning – or at least plateauing – in the US, fans in the UK were in the fevered grip of Wrestlemania, Hulkamania, and – perhaps most crucially of all – Gladly-Spend-Thirty-Pounds-on-a-Giant-Foam-Finger-amania. The WWF’s instincts proved correct: the first round of tickets for SummerSlam sold out in five minutes, and the event helped to shift over a million pounds in merchandising. FX Artist Tom Devlin Brings His SyFy ‘Face Off’ Fan Favorite Creation to Life in Feature Horror-Comedy ‘Teddy Told Me To’: "Acclaimed FX artist Tom Devlin has finished production on his feature directorial debut “Teddy Told Me To”, which is currently in post-production.
The horror-comedy – which was directed by Devlin from a screenplay by Vincent Cusimano and Lola Devlin, was filmed on location at his celebrated Boulder City, Nevada roadside attraction Tom Devlin’s Monster Museum. Tom Devlin and Kayla Bushell produced, with special makeup effects by Devlin and Walid Atshe.

The 65th Drama Desk Awards has postponed its plan to stream its awards tonight during a presentation of Spectrum News NY1’s On Stage.
The organization cited “breaking news events in New York this weekend” as the reason for the postponement. The city’s boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn have seen massive disruptions over the last several days from protests over the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd while in police custody.
More details on a rescheduled date and time will be available soon,” the organization said.
“We regret the postponement of our awards ceremony tonight, but, as an organization committed to the principle that all voices must be heard, we stand together with our black colleagues against the racial injustice and violence in our nation and city. We are grateful to Spectrum News NY1 for its comprehensive news coverage of this painful moment,” said Drama Desk Co-Presidents Charles Wright and David Barbour.

Last week we exclusively revealed some of the remaining inductees comprising the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2016 would be. The name that stood out on that list, at least for me, was The Godfather. Real name Charles Wright, The Godfather gimmick graced WWE screens between 1998 and 2000 before coming back briefly in 2002. In the years since, WWE have wheeled him out every now and again for a special appearance, such as a guest spot in the Royal Rumble.
This week, The Godfather confirmed on his Twitter account that he was going into the Hall.
The name jumped out at me because Charles Wright did not, in the opinion of many, have a Hall of Fame career. The Godfather was certainly a memorable character, with his catchy entrance music, outlandish gimmick and eminently quotable catchphrases, but a Hall of Famer? He’s a former Intercontinental Champion, yes, but so...

WhatCulture.com has learned that a source high-up inside WWE recently let slip the names of five candidates who have been discussed for this year’s Hall of Fame.
While these can only be treated as rumour until confirmed by WWE – and with anything in wrestling able to change at any time – our understanding is that all of the names below are virtually a lock for a spot to join the already announced Sting in this year’s class.
A couple are a surprise, while others were expected and long overdue. Some are relevant to the state of Texas – the host state of WrestleMania – be it for their history competing in the area or having been raised there.
But it is our understanding the following names will be inducted this year…

What has been billed as the final batch of Superstars for WWE 2K16 has been confirmed this afternoon.
Here are the names in full: Bray Wyatt, Mikey Whipwreck, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E), Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady, Stunning Steve Austin, Superstar Steve Austin, Rusev, American Bad Ass Undertaker, Baron Corbin, Brian Pillman, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Konnor, Viktor, Mark Henry, Ministry Undertaker, Ricky Steamboat, Savio Vega, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, Sting ’99, Sting Blonde and finally the two Terminator renders.
The new names show how in-depth the Stone Cold mode will be. It looks like we’re going to be travelling right through his days as a Hollywood Blonde with Brian Pillman and that feud with Ricky Steamboat, stopping off for a cup of coffee in Ecw to feud with Mikey Whipwreck (and maybe Sandman?), and then going through his main run in WWE, including the 2001 Royal Rumble.

As much of the roster rallied for WWE's big trip to Singapore and Japan, there was ample room on last night's card for matches to run well past the five-minute mark. Hell, even Paige and Alicia Fox had an opportunity to showcase more than a pair of moves each before the former beat the Bellas' new Bff and scurried to safety.
And with Brock Lesnar among those en route to Asia, it meant Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns would finally get a chance to move their rivalry front and center.

The wrestling business is full of a lot of colorful characters. Some of them are legendary great performers like The Undertaker or Goldust. The ideas of those characters my Then there are the crappy characters that make us wonder what WWE’s creative force were thinking.
With April Fool’s taking place just a day ago, it’s a good time to look at some of the more foolish ideas for characters in WWE and WCW history with a focus on where they were billed from. A lot of times you’ll see a wrestler billed from their actual hometown or a made up one like how Cactus Jack was from Truth or Consequences, New Mexico (that’s a real place) even though he’s from New York or The Undertaker was from Death Valley even though he’s really from Texas. If it fit the character it was fine.

By all conventional wisdom, The Undertaker should not exist in today’s world of professional wrestling. He is an anomaly – a character that could only exist in pro wrestling, but also seemingly should not exist in today’s reality-based WWE. Of course, WWE is the company where leprechauns live under the ring and a little person dressed up in a bull costume thinks he’s a real bull.
Still, Taker is a holdover from a different era, a rare instance of the early 90s Cartoon Era enduring through the Attitude Era, right past the Ruthless Aggression Era, traversing the PG Era and continuing into the Reality Era. Remember the gimmick battle royal at WrestleMania X-7? Several of the characters in that match were created in the same era as Taker: Doink the Clown, Repo Man, the Gobbledygooker and Undertaker’s first manager, Brother Love. That era also gave rise to Papa Shango,...

If at first you don’t succeed, then try, try again…..and again….and again. This seemed to be the motto amongst WWE & WCW in regards to the Ultimate Warrior back in the 1990s. As we all know, the man was on absolute fire in the late 80′s, reaching a summit that virtually no one else had, defeating Hulk Hogan clean during his hey-day. At WrestleMania no less.
However, the torch that was passed that night was more like a matchstick, as The Warrior disappeared following a money dispute over the 1991 SummerSlam main event. Months later he would return during WrestleMania VIII in order to help out the Hulkster, and then feud with Papa Shango. Of course, we all know the truth, as the real Warrior had died and this was a look-a-like. But I digress. He was soon gone again, and wouldn’t be seen for another...

Face paint and wrestling go hand in hand. Even going as far back as the early days of professional wrestling, face paint has been one of the many tools used to create new characters with just one person. For some, the face paint is there to just look cool. For others, it’s a part of their character’s own identity, and sometimes that identity can be pretty weird; in fact it can be downright creepy. Some face paint designs are just one shade while others are a multitude of colors and designs that take a very long time to put on. Professional wrestling is a form of art, and in art you can expect to see some pretty outlandish characters.
In professional wrestling, the most odd looking face paints that are forever engrained in the minds of fans young and old are the ones that manage to withstand the test of time.

The world of professional wrestling has, for many years, featured hundreds of various alliances, groups of men and women who, for countless reasons, teamed together in order to achieve something that they would be unable to achieve alone. Be it a group of good guys sticking together, as friends, to take down the heels, or the bad guys forming a gang as a way to intimidate, attack and overthrow the babyfaces. It has worked for decades and continues to this very day, with factions such as The Shield and The Wyatt Family (oh… and don’t forget 3Mb) running rough-shot through WWE on their way to super-stardom. But, like I said, factions aren’t a new thing, they’ve been around for as long as steel folding chairs, brittle announce tables and sneaky managers, and this release is WWE’s look at some of the standout factions that have firmly...

We’re on the road to Extreme Rules and things are starting to get extremely mediocre. It can’t be helped as the yearly WrestleMania hangover is in full effect. There’s no Undertaker, no Brock Lesnar and we’re now settling into a new normal. Also, did you know what Tna has a pay-per-view this week? Most people did not, as Impact’s ratings dropped to all-time low levels. That’s not much of a “yes movement” for Eric Young’s title reign, that’s a channel changing movement.
Of course, it wasn’t all bad: The Shield’s attacks on SmackDown were a lot of fun (poor Brad Maddox took a brutal toss into the wall), Antonio Cesaro got WWE’s first tornado siren theme music since Perry Saturn, and Paul Heyman and Zeb Colter had great dueling promos. But who wants to hear about that?...
We’re on the road to Extreme Rules and things are starting to get extremely mediocre. It can’t be helped as the yearly WrestleMania hangover is in full effect. Charles Wright is staying at a hotel in New Orleans according to reports, leading to some speculation he will appear in character as Papa Shango at WrestleMania 30.
Wright himself commented that he will be at WrestleMania 30, according to this tweet from some fans he posed for a photograph with.
The return of Papa Shango would make sense given New Orleans cultural history of ‘Louisiana Voodoo’, the spiritual folklore which is still a major tourist attraction in the region. Fans may fondly remember Shango from the cartoon era, he would cast spells (the WWF dimmed the lights and used smoke machines) to create a supernatural aura around his character. Despite wrestling Bret Hart for the WWF Title, Shango was considered a dismal failure, the gimmick was considered silly and up against the emerging new WWF standard it died a death. Wright was re-packaged as Kama Mustafa and then later The Godfather in the attitude era.

If there's anything I have as much of a passion for as horror movies it's professional wrestling, which has been a lifelong obsession of mine since well before the days my parents allowed me to make friends with guys like Jason and Freddy. Not surprisingly, it's been the horror-inspired characters that I've always found myself gravitating towards - guys who looked and acted like they belonged inside the confines of horror films, more than they did the squared circle.
With WWE's Wrestlemania 30 on the horizon, taking place this Sunday night, now's the perfect time to shine the spotlight on some of the scariest grapplers in the history of the business, which is precisely what I'm here to do today. So here are 10 professional wrestlers who have channeled the spirit of horror cinema over the years, and have brought together my two biggest passions in life!

WWE is the biggest wrestling organisation in the world, of that there can be no doubt. WCW ran it close for a few years in the late 1990′s, but ultimately Vince McMahon prevailed. Now, granted, this has led to a little complacency on WWE’s part, as Vince has always worked best when he has had major competition or his back was up against the wall.
But even when things were going better than they are today (and we needn’t worry about WWE going out of business any time soon) they haven’t always been successful in everything that they have done. Yes, in life you have to take chances – calculated risks, if you will – but WWE has made some decisions that over the years have made people sit up and, along with Stone Cold Steve Austin, say “What?”
We’re going to look at ten of the biggest...

The Ultimate Warrior’s return to WWE as a Hall of Famer this year is one of the biggest stories in WWE so far in 2014. It’s been nearly 20 years since he had any involvement with the company, so for him to return made headlines around the wrestling world.
Recently, there’s been a revelation about some of his dealings with WWE in the form of a letter he wrote to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon in 1991. The physical letters have been posted online that shows it was a handwritten letter by Ultimate Warrior on July 10, 1991. The letters were also re-posted on the internet on many different websites and can be read here.
What have we learned from it all? That the Warrior really takes a long time to make a point. He also capitalizes phrases like “The One” just because he’s a unique guy like that.

© Omg! The Top 50 Incidents In WWE History
Professional wrestling has never been the most PC sport in the world, and plenty of gigantic cock ups have occurred over the years which have simultaneously and paradoxically lost the WWE credibility, and also afforded them with cult status. Sometimes the organisation has taken a story line too far and sometimes they have been downright sick. There have been numerous incidents of very bad taste in wrestling, but these are the legends that fans remember and discuss among themselves.
Wrestling has undergone a bit of a clean up after the dreadful events of the Benoit tragedy, but we still have plenty of past glorious moments of bad taste to trade on. Some of the events that are on this list are in such poor taste, one wonders if the script writers were smoking crack when they came up with these story lines and concepts.

I wonder if I can convince Virgin Media to refund me my £14.95 after last night’s Royal Rumble proved to be a monumental waste of money?
After what can only be described as a weak build up, the Royal Rumble finally hit out screens last night, leaving many WWE fans lost for words – and not in a good way. The show opened with the World Heavyweight Title match between Alberto Del Rio and The Big Show. This was nowhere near their previous match in terms of excitement and urgency, and would have been a much better fit for an episode of Smackdown, or better yet, a house show. After a sloppy back and forth, the match ended when Del Rio’s Bff Ricardo Rodriguez taped Show’s feet to the ropes preventing him from standing before the 10 count. Oh, and Bret Hart appeared and called Del Rio the Mexican Hitman.

If you’re a wrestling fan then you simply have to love the annual Royal Rumble event. Ok, so it’s almost always predictable and obvious who will win it – but that isn’t why we love it so much. For those of you out there who have never experienced the WWE’s unique take on a battle royal the best bit is seeing which names from the past will pop up as surprise entrants.
Over the years we’ve been treated to returns by Kevin Nash and Booker T (who we all thought were headed back to Tna), Mr Perfect, Bob Backlund, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Goldust as well as comebacks from current stars who’ve been on the bench.
Here’s our list of 10 wrestlers, old and new, that we’d like to see make a return at this years Royal Rumble.

The 2012 edition of the WWE Royal Rumble is but just a few hours away and everyone across the web is playing the guessing game for who the surprise entrants this year will be. On this occasion the WWE have decided not to reveal the majority of the entrants before the Rumble (we only know about 10 names for sure at this point) and with reports about a week ago claiming WWE officials had polled people backstage to see who they would most like to see cameo at the Rumble, we could most certainly be in for one or two surprises tonight.
At this stage the most expected surprise entrant is said to be WWE Hall of Famer Hacksaw Jim Duggan, the winner of the very first Royal Rumble back in 1988. Hacksaw cancelled an Indie booking tonight for undisclosed reasons and has a wrestling book coming out later this year which he is keen to promote.

WWE Superstar Wade Barrett claims the voodoo practitioner Papa Shango has one of the guest spots to compete in Sunday’s 30-man Royal Rumble match. He wrote on twitter;
“Just heard from my good pal Papa Shango. He tells me he has one of the guest spots in this year’s Royal Rumble match. Great news.”
Does this mean we can expect Shango, The Ultimate Warrior’s biggest arch nemesis (!), to make a return on Sunday, winning the Rumble by making everyone in the ring puke?
The answer is probably not. You may recall around this time last year that there were jokes going around on the internet that Shango was to make a guest spot surprise in the 40-man Royal Rumble match but it turned out to be just some wrestlers goofing around. If I remember rightly Cm Punk was one of the WWE Superstars making the outrageous claim...

47 year old Former WWF Tag Team Champion Mark Canterbury (aka Henry O. Godwin) has been hospitalised and is in intensive care after a car crash yesterday (Tuesday). The incident happened in Lindside, West Virginia and although details are vague, it has been reported that Cantebury’s car came off a cliff, puncturing two of his lungs and leaving him with thirteen broken ribs and also a broken leg.
He was since flown to an intensive care unit but there is no further update on his current condition.
Canterbury, who wrestled with Dennis Knight (then Tex Slazenger) for WCW in the early 90′s under the name Shanghai Pierce, is best known for his time with the World Wrestling Federation. He joined the company in mid-1994 and went by the ring name Henry Orpheus Godwin and at the time of outlandish wrestlers like Doink The Clown and Papa Shango, was given the...

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of The Amazing Race, Episode 1.
A new season of the Amazing Race is off and running, and as many of you know by now (and as was first reported here back in December), this season is sub-titled Unfinished Business, with 11 teams returning for another shot at the million dollars. I’ll reiterate my initial response to the Cast List: why are we seeing only teams from Season 12 onward? Nobody from the first 11 seasons warranted an invite?
To the returning readers, Welcome back! It’s nice to see you again. And for those of you new to my Amazing Race Recaps, a hearty welcome as well, and a couple of things you should know: a) the recaps should be up within 30 minutes (often less) of when the show ends on the East Coast, b) the pictures will all have hidden captions underneath, so make sure to...
