- Ruocheng Ying was born on June 21, 1929 in Beijing, China. He was an actor, known for The Last Emperor (1987), Little Buddha (1993) and Soul Mates (1981). He was married to Wu Shiliang. He died on December 27, 2003 in Beijing, China.

- First made his mark in the West as a translator. He was one of the stars of the stage production of Lao-She's "Teahouse" in Beijing in 1958, revived after the Cultural Revolution in 1979. His perfect English enabled him to act as interpreter between the company and foreign visitors. This continued when the production toured Europe.
- In 1983, collaborate with Arthur Miller on Beijing production of "Death of a Salesman." He translated the script, played lead role Willy Loman, and served as Miller's interpreter.
- Ying translated several English plays in Chinese. He also gained attention for his Chinese plays, in the western world.
