Paula Zahn isn’t known for her colorful analysis of America’s great films. And yet, on Monday night, she will appear on TCM with critic Eddie Muller, ready to hash over a series of noir delights such as “In Cold Blood” and “I Want To Live.”

Richard Leibner, the long-serving agent who has backed some of the best-known news anchors in the U.S., is delivering some headlines of his own: He’s retiring after decades on the job.
The veteran talent representative intends to step away from his role as partner at United Talent Agency at the end of the year, according to a memo sent to staffers by Jay Sures, co-president of the agency. “Throughout his career, Richard has represented one major news figure after another, building them up, helping make them household names and playing an important role ensuring journalism always stood for something meaningful, ethical and about high quality,” Sures said.
His exit from UTA will mark the end of an era. Leibner is a clever and passionate advocate for clients, and has never been shy about delivering his opinion of the latest goings-on in the ever-churning news sector — as long as he isn’t being quoted.

Bill Owens has been named executive producer of CBS’ venerable newsmagazine 60 Minutes, filling a role that has been vacant since September, when Jeff Fager, the longtime CBS News executive and Ep, was forced to step down amid allegations of inappropriate conduct at the network news division.
Owens had been executive editor since June 2008. His appointment was announced Wednesday by Susan Zirinsky, the incoming president and senior executive producer of CBS News.
“Bill Owens is steeped in the storytelling style audiences have come to expect from 60 Minutes,” said Zirinsky. “He has led the broadcast to some of its most important and timely journalism these past few months, during one of its most crucial periods. Bill Owens was named just the third executive producer in the history of the venerable “60 Minutes,” capping off a period of uncertainty at the long-running newsmagazine and kicking off a new era at CBS News.
Owens has been serving as the leader of the program during an interim period, and his ascension to the top role comes as CBS News is about to get a new president, Susan Zirinsky. Owens has been the executive editor of the program, and CBS executives have been impressed with his handling of the show in the 2018-2019 season. Under Owens’ aegis, “60 Minutes” has placed an emphasis not only on deeply reported pieces but also on nabbing interviews with news-makers and politicians in the midst of breaking events.
Tanya Simon, a senior producer at “60 Minutes,” is expected to take on a new, elevated role at the program, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Now that Discovery Inc. owns more cable networks, it’s hoping to get advertisers to buy more of them.
The company, which completed its $11.9 billion acquisition of Scripps Networks in March, is offering advertisers a package of 30 of its best-known series, guaranteeing first position in ad breaks in premiere episode of the shows and better reach among women between 25 and 54 than some programs that air on broadcast rivals. The Discovery series include “Deadliest Catch,” “Gold Rush,” “Queen Sugar,” “Chopped,” “Trading Spaces,” “On the Case with Paula Zahn,” “Shark Week”, “90 Day Fiancé,” “People Magazine Investigates,” “Property Bros.,” “House Hunters” and “Iron Chef Gauntlet.”
With more viewing of scripted programming taking place via DVR playback or through Svod services, says Jon Steinlauf, Discovery’s chief U.S. advertising sales officer, Discovery sees an edge to selling its many hours of non-fiction programming. The new package will not include repeat broadcasts.

At the dinner, Aftd will present U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer with the Susan Newhouse & Si Newhouse Award of Hope to recognize his decades-long work in support of biomedical research.
The event will feature musical performances from Tony and Grammy award winner Cynthia Erivo and will be hosted by Paula Zahn. Aftd works to spread awareness and raise funds for research into Ftd (frontotemporal degeneration), a debilitating form of dementia that is most common in people under 60. Ftd causes progressive, irreversible changes to personality, behavior, language and movement — and today there is no cure. This evening’s gala is part of Aftd’s mission to address Ftd disorders.
