All My Children alum Susan Lucci had good reason to tell the 1999 Daytime Emmys audience she “truly never believed” that her Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series win would happen. After all, the soap legend behind Erica Kane had lost that award 18 times — and had lost to Guiding Light’s Kim Zimmer and One Life to Live’s Erika Slezak multiple times — by the time she finally took home the trophy 25 years ago now, on May 21, 1999. By that point, Lucci had become the highest-paid actor on daytime television, but Emmy gold was still out of reach. She had made light of her losing streak, as GoldDerby reports, on Saturday Night Live — in an opening monologue in which SNL’s cast and crew flaunt their Emmy trophies — and in a TV commercial — saying that with the sugar substitute Sweet One, she had everything she wanted “except that Emmy!” Lucci’s...

Plot: A gritty, emotional tale about healing familial wounds through re-connection. After a drastic incident in her life, a young woman embarks on an impromptu road trip with her estranged father. En-route to their destination of Santa Fe, New Mexico, the two are forced to confront the issues of their past that have led to their frail relationship, while encountering an eccentric array of characters along the way, in order to bring them closer together again.
Review: Road trips and redemption tales have long been staples of filmmaking, big and small. Stories of connection between estranged family members, struggles with addiction, and stark looks at the landscape of rural America are nothing new, but that does not mean they are not ripe for new stories. Bleeding Love is a film rooted in the familiar tropes of decades worth of movies and yet it still manages to bring something unique to the mix.

"Why would I ever trust you? You've never been there for me, Dad!" Vertical has revealed an official trailer for a film titled Bleeding Love, which is a new title. It first premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival last year under the title You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder, with stops at the Karlovy Vary and Göteborg Film Fests. Now set for a VOD release in February. It's yet another film about addiction and how hard it is to help someone overcome addiction. A father takes his estranged daughter on a road trip in an effort to get her out of trouble. Along the way they meet all types of strangers, as their strained relationship is put to the test. The film stars real-life father and daughter duo Ewan McGregor and Clara McGregor, along with Kim Zimmer, Devyn McDowell, Sasha Alexander, with Jake Weary and Vera Bulder. The name change...

Being a girl dad has its problems, especially when your daughter thinks you’re a prick. As “Bleeding Love” begins, a teenage girl shoots a jaundiced look at her father who is driving her somewhere in the desolate West. She can’t hear him because her headphones are blaring “I’m Yer Dad,” a not even remotely subtle noise pop song by Grlwood that includes the lyric, “Feed me food while I watch sports / In my man cave made for sports / Whores in my porn, porn in my sports … ’Cause I’m your dad.”
Dad studies her without comprehension. She is his daughter, but she is an undiscovered country to him. He vacated his fatherly duties during his booze years, and now he must deal with an estranged beautiful daughter whose heart stopped beating last night during an overdose. He pulls his pickup to the side of the road so she can pee,...

She stole men from other women and then threw them aside. She steamrolled over anyone in her path to achieve fame and success. She backstabbed and connived. We hated her. We loved her. We loved to hate her. And we wept with her when she occasionally showed vulnerability. She is one of the most — if not the most — famous soap opera characters of all time, and her portrayer was the basis of one of the most infamous award show dramas of all time.

Casting father and daughter in a drama loosely based on their own relationship creates a fuzzy line between reality and fiction in You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder.
This uneven indie road-trip drama is at times too by-the-numbers but is always captivating thanks to its two stars, who hold the screen throughout. Ewan McGregor plays a landscaper with a pickup truck driving his daughter, played by Clara McGregor, to a destination he doesn’t share with her, or with us, until well into the film. We immediately see the distance between them, though, which is as vast as the wide, empty New Mexico landscape they’re passing, a lonely expanse of desert and scrub. He is clearly nervous with worry, and she is belligerent. Their characters have no names, a device that doesn’t serve any purpose, because these people are very specific. But the slow reveal of information works better than the no-name trick,...

Tom Pelphrey has a knack for choosing incredibly dynamic roles.
You should know him from Ozark Season 3, on which he played Wendy Byrde's bipolar brother, Ben opposite award-winning talent, Laura Linney.
Or perhaps you know him from Banshee or Iron Fist. Pelphrey makes an impression wherever he goes.
For me, it was the fall of 2004 when he burst onto the scene of Guiding Light as Jonathan Randall. Just out of college, Pelphrey held his weight against a soap-opera great, Kim Zimmer, who played his long-lost mother, Reva Shayne.
The energy he brought to that storyline was infectious. For just over two years, he was part of one of the most riveting storylines in soap history.
Always one to make a mark, Pelphrey joined the Cinemax series Banshee in 2015 as Kurt Bunker, a former Neo-Nazi who managed to change his stripes against all the odds.

Many TV fans are hearing Tom Pelphrey‘s name for the first time this season thanks to his standout role as Laura Linney‘s bipolar brother in the third season of Netflix‘s “Ozark.” He’s been steadily rising in our Emmy odds for Best Drama Supporting Actor, but Emmys are actually old hat for Pelphrey. He’s already got two, which he won more than a decade ago in daytime for his breakthrough role on “Guiding Light.” Take a look back at his first victory in 2006 above.

Netflix’s “Ozark” is gunning for Emmys this year for its second season, which premiered last summer, and now the show has added an Emmy winner to its regular cast for its upcoming third season. Our sister site Deadline exclusively announced that “Guiding Light” alum Tom Pelphrey has signed on to the crime drama to play Ben Davis, the younger brother of Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) who arrives for an unannounced visit.
Pelphrey is known to daytime fans for his star-making role on “Gl”
as Jonathan Randall, the long lost son of Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer). His performance as the volatile young man earned him four straight Daytime Emmy nominations for Best Younger Actor (2005-2008), of which he won twice. After that series he joined the cast of “As the World Turns” as Mick Dante in 2009 and stayed until 2010, after which he has been working in primetime and streaming TV.

Maura West is nominated for Best Actress this year for her performance as Ava Jerome on “General Hospital.” It’s her 11th career nomination and her fourth for this role. She previously won this category three times: twice for “As the World Turns” and once for “Gh” (2015).
Can she prevail for a fourth time? That would tie her with Susan Flannery and Kim Zimmer as the second most awarded actress in the category. Erika Slezak is the all-time record-holder with six. Here’s the scoop on what West showed Emmy judges.
