American Dad directors and creatives stepped in for voiceover cast and key creatives today on San Diego Comic-Con to tease the upcoming season on TBS. The session kicked off with Innerspace parodied episode airing on Sept. 4, in which Francine, Stan’s wife, shrinks down into a small spaceship and takes a ride through Stan’s body; a battle with spiders ensues.
Asked about the Christmas episode this year, director Brent Woods said that Santa is making an appearance as Stan’s family is “transported into a different place, we have fun with them looking like CGI animation.”
One fan asked if B12, the boy band which was assembled by Snot’s uncle. That’s still Tbd.
Another fan raised the question to the panel today in Ballroom 20 as to how the show deals with the network’s standards and practices.

The WGA Writers Strike has officially begun and the picket lines have formed across Hollywood and New York City. This halt means that many scripted projects will inevitably go dark, resulting in a Hollywood shutdown not seen since Covid, and not felt since the last WGA strike took place 15 years ago. Variety will keep readers updated with a rolling list of everything that has been put on hold as a result of the strike, which went into effect Tuesday. For more information about the strike, check out Variety’s Faq primer on what it means for the industry.
Update: “Family Guy” and “American Dad” updates added.
Late-night Shows Go Dark. ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” CBS’ “The Late Show,” and NBC’s “Tonight” and “Late Night” are all going on hiatus and repeats will be shown. HBO will also cease live production of “Real Time with Bill Maher” and “Last Week Tonight” with John Oliver.

Exclusive: Seth MacFarlane and the showrunners for American Dad and Family Guy are putting down their tools and talents until the Writers Guild of America has a new deal with the studios.

American Dad Season 7 is approaching fast, and Rachael MacFarlane (Hayley Smith's voice) sat down with us to discuss the show.
American Dad airs on TBS after initially being canceled on Fox in 2014.
Created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt Weitzman, American Dad follows the Smith family to deal with never-ending antics.
Stan Smith (Seth MacFarlane) is a CIA agent painfully dedicated to homeland security.
His home life includes doting wife Francine (Wendy Schaal), a ditzy housewife, liberal daughter Hayley (Rachael MacFarlane), and socially awkward teenage son Steve (Scott Grimes).
Living with the family is Klaus (Dee Bradley Baker), a goldfish with the brain of an East German Olympic ski jumper, and Roger (Seth MacFarlane), an escaped alien from Area 51.
The Smiths have already gone through a lot of shenanigans, like Hayley's boyfriend Jeff (Jeff Fischer) being sent to space, Roger "birthing" a mini-alien named Rogu (Baker), and plenty of other science-fiction occurrences.

Exclusive: Ahead of American Dad!’s Season 17 premiere, TBS has renewed the hit animated comedy series for two more seasons, 18 and 19. Series co-creator/executive producer Matt Weitzman and executive producer Brian Boyle have signed new deals to continue as showrunners. Season 17th season of American Dad!, from 20th Television Animation, premieres Jan. 24, on TBS.
“American Dad! is reaching rarified air with 18th and 19th season pickups that only a handful of shows have ever accomplished; this speaks to the zeitgeisty humor that resonates with audiences, and to the dedication of its creators and brilliant TBS network executives,” said Adrienne O’Riain and Sam Linsky, Co-Heads of Scripted Programming, TBS, TNT, truTV.
The series, which was picked up by TBS following its cancellation by Fox, has been a cornerstone of the TNet’s animation strategy, with a slew of new projects in the pipeline. It currently ranks as the #3 comedy on cable.

“American Dad!” is sticking around for at least two more years.
TBS has renewed the adult animated comedy for two more seasons. The series will hit the rare 300 episode mark in 2020, becoming one of the few scripted television shows to reach that milestone.
The series was created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, and is run by co-showrunners Matt Weitzman and Brian Boyle. It is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. The show originally aired on Fox beginning in 2005 before moving to TBS in 2014.

American Dad! is going to be around awhile longer. TBS has ordered two more seasons of Seth MacFarlane’s top-rated adult animated comedy, which will mark its milestone 300th episode this year. The renewal was announced Wednesday during Turner’s presentation at the TCA Winter Press Tour.
A consistent, solid ratings performer, American Dad!, from 20th Century Fox TV, ranks as a top 5 cable comedy, with the current season reaching an audience of nearly 18 million viewers across all TBS platforms, according to Nielsen.
Co-created by MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, American Dad! centers on super-patriotic CIA agent Stan Smith (voiced by MacFarlane) and the misadventures of his unconventional family in Langley Falls, Va. Stan applies the same drastic measures used in his job at the CIA to his home life, where Stan’s blissfully unaware wife, Francine (Wendy Schaal), has an unfaltering loyalty that makes her blind to his unabashed arrogance.

TBS has signed up for at least two more seasons of American Dad...
It’s a safe bet that soon American Dad will be old enough to legally buy booze, as TBS confirmed season 16 And season 17 during its TCA presentations this week.
American Dad spent its first 11 seasons on Fox before moving to TBS in 2014. The series has aired 235 episodes as it heads into season 15, fresh off a Christmas special. Created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt Weitzman, it quickly separated itself from its cousin Family Guy and still maintains a devoted fan base.
Quitely, American Dad is one of television’s longest-running programs, and it recently got some recognition with Dee Bradley Baker (the voice of Klaus) receiving an Emmy nomination in 2017 for Outstanding Voice work.

Exclusive: As American Dad is ramping up production on its eleventh season and first on TBS, the animated comedy’s co-creator/executive producer/co-showrunner Mike Barker has stepped down. He remains under an overall deal at 20th Century Fox TV, the studio behind American Dad. Barker has been running the series with fellow co-creator/exec producer Matt Weitzman (the two co-created it with executive producer Seth MacFarlane). For the time being, Weitzman will serve as sole showrunner. American Dad is in the beginning stages of making the first four episodes of Season 11, which have held their table reads as part of a nine-month production cycle per episode. I hear the change at the helm was made over concerns that the show was not running smoothly. Barker has been on American Dad since the show’s 2005 launch except for a short-term leave last season.
