The Wicker Tree PosterDirector Robin Hardy is attempting to bring back Pagan mythology single-handedly with his new film The Wicker Tree. Touted as a companion piece to The Wicker Man (Shock), The Wicker Tree will take place in the Scottish Highlands and focus in on two devoutly Catholic worshipers. These two preachers of God will soon find out why blood sacrifices are a much more exciting avenue for spiritual expression rather than mere praying. This latest film from Hardy is based on his novel "Cowboys for Christ" and fans of the film can find the first teaser inside.

By James Mapes - I just had one of the all time greatest experiences and adventures of my life - with the additional gift of re-learning some valuable life lessons in the process.
The experience was acting in a movie. For me, it was the role of a lifetime -challenging, and way outside of my comfort zone. I played a tap-dancing, guitar-strumming, mandolin-playing Texas preacher - The Reverend Moriarty - in the sequel to the 1973 cult classic "The Wicker Man," appropriately entitled "The Wicker Tree". The film was shot in Scotland and is written and directed by the brilliant Robin Hardy.

By James Mapes - The term "teacher" appeared somewhere around the 14th Century and according to the dictionary means; one whose occupation is to instruct others - a tutor. I think the word also implies that one must undergo special training and possess specific credentials to be a teacher. I'm not so sure I agree with that.
In fact, I believe that in our own way we are all teachers - sometimes having a positive influence, sometimes negative, and often, we don't even know the impact we are having on others.

By James Mapes - There is a Chinese symbol that apparently can be interpreted as either crisis or opportunity. Specifically, the symbol represents both danger and opportunity hidden in crisis. It has been cleverly used for decades by authors of self-help books and countless inspirational speakers. As ubiquitous as it has become, the idea resonates with me and triggers instantaneous self-examination of any negative circumstance I am facing.

By James Mapes - Lately, I have been transfixed, thinking about both the power and whimsical nature of the imagination. The truth is that the imagination is often like an immature wild child. Left undisciplined and without direction, it will run amuck, grabbing hold of fear and creating havoc. Yet, when it is focused in the right direction, creativity explodes and ideas blossom.

By James Mapes - My first and most memorable pet was a cuddly, loving and gentle Cocker Spaniel by the name of Amber. I have only one negative memory of this wonderful creature. One day, Amber swiped a bone out of the garbage. I watched her gnaw away for what seemed like an eternity until I got bored. I decided it was time she played with me. "That's it for you kiddo," I exclaimed. As I reached down to deprive her of her delicacy, a low growl of warning escaped from deep down in her throat. It scared me half to death and needless to say, I didn't proceed forward. Once a dog gets hold of a bone, he doesn't let go until it is gone. In a strange way, it served as a great lesson in perseverance, persistence, tenacity, steadfastness or, if you prefer "doggedness." This quality is one...

My wife and I had just arrived at our condo in the U.S. Virgin Islands, our place of renewal, healing and productivity.I had not seen my next-door neighbor for over two years. The truth is that we have spoken perhaps a dozen times over the past two decades. He only comes down every November to prepare his place for rental and soak in the Caribbean atmosphere. As one often does with someone who is not particularly close, I engaged in polite chatter. I reintroduced him to my wife and asked him how life was treating him.

Last Friday at New York City’s 92YTribeca, fans of Robin Hardy’s 1973 British horror classic The Wicker Man got a special treat. Not only was a 35mm print of the movie screened with Hardy in attendance, but the director unveiled 10 minutes of clips from his latest feature The Wicker Tree (formerly known as Cowboys For Christ). Fango got a chance to speak with Hardy exclusively about the new project, which was partially encouraged by the misbegotten 2006 remake of The Wicker Man starring Nicolas Cage.
