Each one of us I’m sure remembers old friends we use to run in circles with in our early twenties, we drank, partied and stayed out with those friends to the most ungodly hours of the night without regrets. As time marched on, life events like families, jobs and reaching goals began to take over the time we dedicated to those long hours spent throwing back beers with our buddies and we tend to lose touch with some of those friends. Suddenly it hits us; we are what we said we would never become, a working stiff adult. Panic sets in and we begin calling those long lost friends of our drunken partying past for a night on the town for old time’s sake. Does this sound like a scenario you can relate to? If you answered yes, then Alyce Kills...

Jay Lee may be best known as the director of Zombie Strippers, but he has a new psychological horror movie, Alyce Kills, that is out on DVD next week. We had the opportunity to have Jay take part in our Q&A series and he told us about getting back to psychological horror, working with Jade Dornfeld, and the possibility of us seeing a Zombie Strippers sequel:
Thank you very much for taking the time to talk with us. Alyce Kills is very different from a movie like Zombie Strippers. What made you want to go into this more serious/psychological direction?
Jay Lee: Actually it was the other way around. Alyce Kills is more of a return for me from the detour that was the over-the-top gorefest comedy horror films. The latter was just better business (my prior psychological thriller that actually premiered at Sundance is indeed a...

'Area 407: Part Two' is the continuing tale of a group of plane crash survivors whom just when they think things can't get worse whilst fending off oversized lizards in a government testing area...they can and do. 'Zombie Strippers!' helmer Jay Lee directs the follow-up, in a more traditional style, from a script penned by Suzanne DeLaurentiis and John Timmons. If you thought Area 407 was a "one and done" sorta film, you're wrong. The 2012 IFC Films release has spawned a sequel - Area 407: Part II - and this one combines found footage, dinosaurs and zombies. Because why the hell not, right?
The original found the survivors of a plane crash trying fending off deadly predators in a government testing area.
The sequel continues the story with said survivors "fighting for their lives in even more terrifying circumstances as more of the horrifying government conspiracy unfolds."
Zombies Strippers director Jay Lee sits at the helm of this entry. Trailer within!

Chicago – Long-delayed stateside, premiering On Demand, stupidly retitled (it was and still should be just “Alyce”), Jay Lee’s twisted trip down the rabbit hole of sanity, “Alyce Kills,” was not high on my list of anticipated films. Much to my surprise, “Alyce Kills” is a riveting slice of weird, a tale that reminds me of great films like “Repulsion” and “May” more than most of the junk that falls through the genre cracks and ends up in a similar launch pattern. It’s ten times better than most horror movies that will hit the multiplex this year. Genre fans will eat it up.

Ready to head down the rabbit hole with director Jay Lee (Zombie Strippers) for his trippy pscho-horror film Alyce Kills? This is anything but a Wonderland for Alyce though, running madly around a city full of cheating boyfriends, vicious bitches, and perverted drug dealers. The only white rabbit that guides her way comes in a white powder form, and Jefferson Airplane starts us on our journey by playing none other than, you guessed it, “White Rabbit.” Don’t think Lee’s film plays close to Alice In Wonderland though, it’s more just a notion with nods to characters and themes. Plus you wouldn’t want to mix up Alice with Alyce – one is whimsical and innocent, while the other mutilates anyone in her path.

The Summer of Massacre (2011)“Terror Toons” mastermind Joe Castro’s balls-out insane horror anthology “The Summer of Massacre” is one of the weirdest cinematic rides you can experience without first ingesting scores of illegal narcotics. The first segment is clearly the most inventive — the body count in this story alone is through the freaking roof — though each chapter has its own unique set of strong points. However, Castro’s approach to on-screen mayhem takes some getting used to. At first you may think the effects look cheap, but by the end of the feature, you’ll grow to appreciate their decidedly peculiar charms. After all, some of the picture’s brutally creative kills couldn’t possibly work without the help of a little homegrown CGI. “The Summer of Massacre” isn’t for the squeamish, nor is it appropriate for those who proudly wash themselves in waters of political correctness. You know precisely who you are.

*spoiler alert!
Director/writer: Jay Lee.
Cast: Jade Dornfeld, Tamara Feldman and James Duval.
With a title like Alyce, some viewers may have to wonder what this girl's Wonderland is going to be like. Almost from the get go, what she sees is that of the war in the Middle East—she's rather nonchalant and mesmerized by it. One message this film is making a social commentary about is on the hazards of being enamored by violence.
Alyce (Jade Dornfeld) certainly has a child-like innocence to her and Dornfield does a great job in bringing that out. The television images she sees in the ‘War on Terror’ becomes detrimental to her character. The setup for the film shows a very innocent girl living alone. The next set of images that audiences sees defines the film in the carnage being wrought, and those were the last images Alyce saw before leaving her apartment.

Alyce and her best friend Carroll go out for a night of fun when Carroll finds out that her boyfriend is cheating on her. Devastated, the girls begin drinking heavily when Carroll decides she needs something stronger to help ease her pain so they go to a drug dealer that Carroll frequents to score some ecstasy. Once back at Alyce's building, the girls head up to the roof, where Alyce (trying to scare Carroll) ends up pushing off.
Riddled with guilt, and plagued by haunting visions of Carroll, Alyce goes back to the dealer to get something to help her cope. As her life comes crashing down around her, Alyce goes deeper into the dark world of drugs, sex and eventually murder as she loses her grip on reality.

Earlier this week, during our Indie Horror Month interview with Midnight Son star Zak Kilberg, we learned about Alyce, the upcoming ultra-gritty psychological thriller from the delightfully demented mind of writer/director Jay Lee (Zombie Strippers, The Slaughter).

This week those involved with making the indie horror film Midnight Son have reason to celebrate. Their hard work some three years in the making is finally paying off as the project is making its world premiere this Friday, March 4th, in San Jose at the prestigious Cinequest Film Festival.
In honor of their perseverance in independent filmmaking, Dread Central is putting the spotlight on those involved with Midnight Son (review here) over the next several days to kick off our Indie Horror Month celebration.
For his role as the lead character Jacob in Midnight Son , it was almost like fate knocked on Zak Kilberg’s door one day. The up-and-coming actor was referred by a friend to writer/director Scott Leberecht’s website to check out a possibility of being part of a brand new independent horror film. As quietearth said when he shared this link with me, "this stuff is pure gold." Of course he's right in more ways than one. Zombie Strippers might have sounded bad on paper but it was production company Scream HQ's ticket to financial windfall. Zombie Strippers debuted as one of Amazon’s twenty best-selling horror DVDs of all time so who can argue with that action.
This of course brings us to Scream HQ's roster of upcoming projects, all of which promise to be as deliciously fun filled as Zombie Strippers. Can the world resist Cannibal Bitches of Beverly Hills? Meatville, Ouijahead, or Scream Queen? What about the touted Sex and the City meets Hostel of "Blood Sisters?" I think the wrting's on the wall people. These upcoming flicks will be very popular.
We've got the full skinny on all the projects so go get your exploitation fix.

“Hopefully, it will be gratuitous: gratuitous comedy, gratuitous political commentary, gratuitous gore and violence. We didn’t want anyone to think we were holding back…”

Some people think the Bacon Martini is a strange drink. Try this cocktail on a prickly Thursday night: the political awareness of Robocop, the emotional complexities of Showgirls, the back-alley stench of The Toxic Avenger, the deceptive kinkiness of Frankenhooker and Planet Terror, and…um…
The bonus features on Sony Pictures’ DVD are… I can’t do this. I can’t stand it! How did you expect this review to begin? “It’s not as raunchy as you’d think it would be.” “Much slicker than you could’ve imagined!” It’s both, dammit. Both. And the combination is enough to drive even the laziest zombie enthusiasts outside, smoke if they got ’em...

We recently spoke to writer/director Jay Lee about his film, Zombie Strippers, starring Jenna Jameson. The unrated DVD comes out just in time for Halloween! Unrated, naked strippers? Sounds more like Christmas, right boys? Lee says he was unfamiliar with Jameson’s early career...not sure I believe that, but whatever. You have to love anyone who bases a film about zombie strippers on a French existential play about fascism. Really, how can you top that? Scarier than the zombies and the giant fake boobs? The premise that George Bush has been elected for a fourth term. Gives me the heebie jeebies. Zombie Strippers comes out on DVD and Blu-ray October 28th. Naked chicks on Blu-ray is better than candy corns, right?...

Just got off the phone with Jay Lee, writer/director of the film Zombie Strippers who told us he’s going in a Very different direction for his next film. “The next film that we’re hopefully going to do is called House of the Hundred Eyes. It’s the exact opposite. It’s this really dark, really very, very disturbing film. And we’re going to push the envelope, disturbing people, as opposed to amusing them. Something about snuff films and stuff like that.” A bit different than Jenna Jameson shooting ping pong balls out of her...what can I say? The girl’s got talent!
