Exclusive: Apple TV+ has opted not to order a second season of Mr. Corman, A24’s half-hour schoolteacher comedy-drama created, written, directed, executive produced and headlined by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The series’ final episode, “The Big Picture”, was released earlier today.
Mr. Corman premiered Aug. 6 to mostly solid reviews (70% on Rotten Tomatoes) but did not draw a wide audience on the platform the way other Apple TV+ comedy series have done this past summer, including flagship Ted Lasso, Schmigadoon!, Physical, Mythic Quest and Trying, which have either been renewed or looking good for renewal.
Apple TV+ remains in business with Gordon-Levitt who is executive producing and voicing a lead character in the streamer’s new animated children’s series Wolfboy and the Everything Factory, which dropped all 10 episodes of its first season Sept. 24.

Apple TV+ has launched a new trailer for the upcoming comedy series featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, ‘Mr Corman’.
The series follows the days and nights of Josh Corman (played by Gordon-Levitt), an artist at heart but not by trade. A career in music hasn’t panned out, and he teaches fifth grade at a public school in the San Fernando Valley. His ex-fiancé Megan has moved out, and his high school buddy Victor has moved in. He knows he has a lot to be thankful for but finds himself struggling nevertheless through anxiety, loneliness, and a sinking suspicion that he sucks as a person. Darkly funny, oddly beautiful, and deeply heartfelt, this relatable dramedy speaks for our contemporary generation of 30-somethings: rich with good intentions, poor with student loans, and yearning to become real grown-ups sometime before they die.
Created by, directed by and executive produced by Joseph Gordon Levitt along with Bruce Eric Kaplan,...

The original quarantine couples are back. “Love is Blind: After the Altar,” and three-episode special followup to “Love is Blind,” will premiere July 28 on Netflix.
“Love is Blind: After the Alter” brings back Season 1 fan favorites as they prepare for a two-year anniversary party for the Hamiltons and the Barnetts, the two couples to successfully make it down the aisle during the “Love is Blind” experiment. Ahead of the party, audiences will get to catch up with the cast as they settle back into their daily lives in Atlanta, Ga. When the show ended, some singles left with a sour taste in their mouth about the experiment’s outcomes, so there is no doubt there will be drama and surprise appearances.

The article below contains spoilers for "Flo," the March 2nd, 2014 episode of "Girls." "Flo" marks the second visit death has paid to "Girls" this season, and this time it's not in a way that's going to leave Hannah (Lena Dunham) blithely emotionally unaffected. Directed by Richard Shepard ("Dom Hemingway"), who also helmed last week's episode "Incidentals," and written by cartoonist and "Six Feet Under" alum Bruce Eric Kaplan, "Flo" brought Hannah to the hospital to unite with her mother Loreen (Becky Ann Baker), her aunts Margo (Deirdre Lovejoy, from "The Wire") and Sissy (Amy Morton) and her cousin Rebecca (Sarah Steele) at the deathbed of the grandmother of the title, played by the wonderful "Nebraska" Oscar nominee June Squibb. That's one hell of a collection of actresses, and Kaplan, who scripted the season two's far less successful Jessa-centric family visit episode "Video Games," gave them plenty to work with in...

This episode places the episode’s focus solely on Hannah and her relationship with her family and shows that maybe she isn’t so bad after all. Her behavior at her editor’s funeral pales in comparison to her mother and aunts who are fighting over Flo’s pills and possessions. Kaplan uses Hannah’s various relatives to look at the different sides of her personality. Flo is where she gets her sense of humor and positive attributes from. Some of...

It's not quite the splendidly meta promo that Louis C.K. did for his own HBO special "Oh My God," but the teaser, below, for "Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles" features a nicely self-deprecating moment with the comedian defending her Saturday, November 23rd stand-up show to a group of guys who initially cruise by to hoot at her in her knee socks, but end up making fun of the capacity of the space in which she's performing: "At Largo? That's like barely 300 seats!" This isn't the only project Silverman has going with HBO -- the acerbic stand-up was recently tapped to star alongside Topher Grace and Patti Lupone in the premium network's pilot "People In New Jersey," a half-hour comedy written by cartoonist/"Six Feet Under" writer Bruce Eric Kaplan, directed by Paul Feig and executive produced by Lorne Michaels.

Now, here's a cast: Sarah Silverman, Topher Grace, and Patti Lupone. Despite looking nothing alike, Grace and Silverman play the children of the widowed Lupone. Bruce Eric Kaplan, a New Yorker cartoonist who's written for Seinfeld, Six Feet Under, and Girls, will write the pilot. This is a real menagerie of folks, but it works for us.

Lena Dunham's parents are helping their daughter become "the voice of a generation."
According to Capital New York's article about the "Girls" writers room, Laurie Simmons and Carroll Dunham sometimes help pen the Emmy-winning HBO series.
"Our writers this year include Judd Apatow, Jenni Konner, Lena Dunham, Bruce Eric Kaplan, Murray Miller, Paul Simms, Sarah Heyward and, occasionally, Lena’s parents," an HBO spokesperson said. "We are very excited to get started on Season 3."
This isn't the first time Dunham's parents have been involved in the series. In a Season 2 episode, Dunham's mother (Simmons) played a woman working at an art gallery who interviewed Marnie (Allison Williams).
"She kind of uses a shorthand with me that’s like, 'Mom, that sucks. Mom, be quiet. Mom, scream.' You know, she just kind of shouts commands at me that she really wouldn’t dare to do with any other actor,...

Girls, Season 2, Episode 8: “It’s Back”

Too many Freaks, not enough circuses - AA counselor’s t-shirt
Introducing a new aspect to an established character is a tricky business. You run the risk of continuity problems with what’s come before, not to mention potential backlash from anyone who’s come to associate with your character. In “It’s Back,” we find out that not only does Hannah Horvath have a history of fairly severe Ocd behavior, but that those tendencies have now cropped up again for what appears to be the first time in quite a while. It’s a testament to just how supremely neurotic Hannah is that it’s not until her parents arrive and notice that the “counting” had started up again that I was briefly convinced that Hannah...

Girls, Season 2, Episode 7: “Video Games”
Written by Bruce Eric Kaplan and Lena Dunham
Directed by Richard Shephard
Original air date: February 24, 2013
In an episode totally in the spirit of season 1’s “The Return”, this week’s episode of Girls sees Jessa and Hannah take a little trip to the countryside to meet with Jessa’s father. Jessa is clearly feeling the emotional weight of divorce far more than she had anticipated and is spurred to visit her somewhat alienated father due to a cryptic message she receives from him (it is, most likely, a butt text). Her character seems to be at an opposite point of where she was just one year ago. Her lifestyle which was free-wheeling and adventurous now seems tired – almost tortured. She brings Hannah along on this search for emotional support from her somewhat alienated father, as a “cushion” to soften the conflict of the situation.

Los Angeles — The CIA thrillers "Argo" and "Zero Dark Thirty" have won top screenplay honors from the Writers Guild of America.
The guild's adapted screenplay award Sunday went to Chris Terrio for "Argo," director Ben Affleck's tale of the CIA's daring masquerade of six U.S. diplomats as a Hollywood film crew to rescue them from Iran during the hostage crisis there.
Mark Boal won the prize for original screenplay for "Zero Dark Thirty," director Kathryn Bigelow's chronicle of the CIA's manhunt for al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
Director Malik Bendjelloul won the documentary award for "Searching for Sugar Man," his portrait of acclaimed but largely forgotten 1970s musician Rodriguez.

Melissa McCarthy and husband Ben Falcone have set up a production company, On the Day, and selected three films to get things started. "We've been writing together for longer than we've been married," reads a statement from the couple. "To be able to produce our own work and other people's work that we are so passionate about is really a dream come true." McCarthy and Falcone will write and produce Michelle Darnell, with McCarthy set to star, although there's no word on a plot yet. McCarthy will also appear in an adaptation of the memoir Just Do It: How One Couple Turned Off the TV and Turned On Their Sex Lives for 101 Days (No Excuses!), with On the Day producing. Lastly, the pair will lend their talents to Cousin Irv From Mars, based on a forthcoming book by cartoonist and writer Bruce Eric Kaplan.

Melissa McCarthy and husband Ben Falcone are developing three new feature projects through their On the Day production company.
Universal has pre-emptively acquired the first, "Michelle Darnell," on an original character created by McCarthy. The pair will pen the script with Steve Mallory and will produce. McCarthy is attached to star.
The second, also setup at Universal, is an adaptation of Bruce Eric Kaplan's book "Cousin Irv From Mars". Kaplan, an exec producer on "Girls," will adapt his book which tells of a boy and his weird cousin who happens to be from Mars.
The third is Fox’s adaptation of the sex-help book "Just Do It" which will be adapted with the help of Michael Aguilar ("The Crazies," "The Departed"). The story deals with a man and his wife's attempts to rekindle their 14-year marriage with a 101-day sexual marathon, some of it good, some of it bad,...

• The Godzilla reboot may not have a final script yet, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t continuing to move forward on other fronts. Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are reportedly in talks for the film, though no final decisions will be made till the script is set. Cranston has been popping up in smaller film roles recently, including Argo, while he shoots Breaking Bad, but it’s likely that he’ll start taking on more leading roles after this final season. HBO has officially announced a third-season pickup of Lena Dunham’s comedy Girls, which has received a 12-episode order, up from 10 for the first two seasons. HBO has been making preparations for a third season of Girls for the last couple of months. The network closed a new overall deal with executive producer Jenni Konner to return as co-showrunner alongside creator/star/executive producer Dunham. The duo, who executive produce Girls with Judd Apatow, have assembled a writing team, with Paul Simms replacing Bruce Eric Kaplan as co-executive producer as Kaplan is busy working on his HBO pilot. (He remains involved with Girls). The writers have already been working on scripts for Season 3 in anticipation of a pickup. Dunham inadvertently confirmed the renewal on Alec Baldwin’s podcast earlier this week. Season 3 of Girls is expected to film on the stage used by Baldwin’s departing 30 Rock at Silvercup Studios.

Sunday, April 15 is a momentous day on the calendar this year. Not because of taxes. Not because we appear to be trembling on the precipice of spring.
