Auckland, Sep 2 (Ians) Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is set to captain New Zealand for the first time in international cricket during the upcoming three-match Odi Series against Bangladesh in Dhaka, said New Zealand Cricket (Nzc) on Saturday.
Ferguson, who recently led the team in tour matches in England, will captain the side in the absence of regular Odi captain Kane Williamson as he continues to recover from a right knee injury, and his deputy Tom Latham, who will miss the series to have time at home before the Icc Cricket World Cup and Test tour to Bangladesh.
“Lockie is an experienced bowler at the international level, and this is an opportunity for him to really lead from the front with not just the bowling group but the team as a whole. He stepped into the role for the warm-up matches in England and led a group, with a lot of moving parts,...

New Delhi, Jan 23 (Ians) India’s left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has avoided a lengthy suspension on his attempt to deliberately appeal for a hit-wicket against New Zealand captain Tom Latham in the first Odi at Hyderabad.
A report in stuff.co.nz on Monday said under the Icc’s Code of Conduct, Kishan could have been charged with a Level 3 offence of attempting to gain an unfair advantage – which leads to a suspension of between four and 12 ODIs or Twenty20 internationals.
The incident happened on the fourth ball of the 16th over when Latham, playing his first ball of the match, went deep in his crease and tapped off left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav through the leg side.
Kishan suddenly went up in appeal and was joined in the same by captain Rohit Sharma. The square seg umpire instantly took the decision upstairs, mainly unclear as to what exactly had happened.

Hamilton, Nov 26 (Ians) New Zealand batting coach Luke Ronchi was in awe of left-handed batter Tom Latham’s stunning 145 against India in the first Odi at Eden Park, Auckland, saying that the wicketkeeper-batter’s professionalism and mindset comes in the limelight when he does things like what happened on Friday.
In chasing a daunting 307, New Zealand were in trouble at 88/3 in 19.5 overs. But Latham, took the game away from India, hitting an inexperienced bowling attack all over the park to end up unbeaten on a career-best score of 145 off 104 balls, laced with 19 fours and five sixes.
But it was his 25-run onslaught on Shardul Thakur in the 40th over, where one six and four boundaries were hit, apart from reaching the three-figure mark, which firmly tilted the match in New Zealand’s favour.
“He knows how to get himself in first, and that’s a big skillset whether you are...
