Make live coverage of selection meetings available for all, Bengal cricketer Manoj Tiwary tells Bcci
New Delhi, Aug 22 (Ians) To bring in more transparency in the selection of the national team, former India cricketer and Bengal’s current sports minister, Manoj Tiwary has suggested that Bcci should make a live broadcast of these important meetings rather than keeping them closed-door affairs.
The Bengal Ranji Trophy team captain also made it clear that he would take the path of such ‘live coverage’ if he ever gets to head the local cricket body –- the Cricket Association of Bengal (Cab).
“For fans and every stakeholder, I would like to see a live broadcast of the selection meeting so that there is more transparency in the process. Everyone will know on what basis a player is picked on the team or dropped from the team. Otherwise, questions would be raised over and over again,” Tiwary told the YouTube channel ‘Cricket Basu’ while reacting to India’s team selection...

New Delhi, March 30 (Ians) Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh believes left-arm spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja could be pushed to a higher position in the batting order for the Chennai Super Kings in Ipl 2023.
Jadeja had a forgettable time in Ipl 2022, scoring only 116 runs in 10 innings at an average of 19.33 and picked five wickets at an economy rate of 7.52. Also, he was the captain of Csk at the start of the competition last year. But Ms Dhoni took back leadership duties mid-way and shortly, Jadeja was ruled out for the rest of the tournament due to a rib injury.
Now, ahead of Ipl 2023, Jadeja enters the competition on the back of bagging Player of the Series award in India’s 2-1 Test series win over Australia, as well as playing a pivotal role in the team’s Odi win in Mumbai.
“One player who I am going to have my eyes on will be Ravindra Jadeja.

Doha (Qatar), March 12 (Ians) World Giants pulled off a thrilling two-run win over India Maharajas in the second match of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) Masters at the Asia Town Cricket Stadium here.
The edge-of-the-seat thriller followed after World Giants had posted 166 for 8 in 20 overs on Saturday night, riding on skipper Aaron Finch’s 53 off 31 balls with seven boundaries and three sixes and Shane Watson’s 55 runs off 32 balls with five boundaries and three sixes.
A captain’s knock of 68 from Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh’s four-wicket spell for 13 runs for Indian Maharajas, unfortunately, went in vain.

With eight runs needed off the last over, Brett Lee gave away just five runs to give the defending champions World Giants a winning start.

New Delhi, June 11 (Ians) Former India selector Msk Prasad has credited the Indian team's recent success and bench strength to their strategy of shortlisting 60 to 80 players from domestic competitions and grooming them for the highest form of cricket.
"Through India A cricket, we shortlisted some 60 to 80 players that we wanted to follow in domestic cricket," Prasad, a former India wicketkeeper-batsman was quoted as saying in The Cricket Monthly.
"We posted ourselves for all those matches where these 60 players were playing. Otherwise, you have 15-16 first-class matches going on every day. You can't keep running here and there."
Prasad, who was the chief selector until last year, said the sectors would look for consistent performers in the team and keep them on standby and ready to replace those on the wane in the national team.

Gill and Rohit added 70 runs in 27 overs on Friday, with the latter getting dismissed on the last ball of the 27th over for a 77-ball 26. Gill went on to score 50 off 101 balls.
"I think he (Gill) is technically very sound, has the temperament to play long innings. So I think it is good if he gets a good start. Today we got 70 runs in the opening partnership. I think that is a good sign for us. Hope he comes good in the second innings too," said Ravindra Jadeja after the end of the second day's play.
The two ensured that No. 3 Cheteshwar Pujara and No. 4 Ajinkya Rahane got an old ball to bat against. Incidentally, India, bothered by the failure of one opener or the other, have...

Melbourne, Dec 25 (Ians) After making 2,270 runs at an average of 68.78 with seven hundreds in first class cricket, talented Indian batsman Shubman Gill will finally make his Test debut and there are few bigger stages in international cricket than the Boxing Day Test against Australia in Melbourne on Saturday.
Gill, 21, has been making all the right noises in the past three years, especially since the 2018 under-19 World Cup, where he was adjudged the Man of the Tournament for scoring 372 runs in six matches. He was vice-captain to Prithvi Shaw and was, importantly, one of the main architects of India's triumph in New Zealand.
After the World Cup, he scored a whopping 728 runs in just nine matches at an average 104 in the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy season. His performances in domestic cricket and in India under-19 and India A tours have helped him garner praise from some of the biggest names in cricket.

Dubai, Oct 28 (Ians/GloFans) An inconsistent Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) will look to seal their seventh win of the season and put their foot firmly in the playoffs when they face Chennai Super Kings (Csk) here on Thursday.
The Eoin Morgan-led Kkr lost their previous match against Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) by eight wickets. This resulted in them losing their fourth place to Kxip due to their inferior net run rate.
The two-time champions have been inconsistent throughout this season and would need to tick all the boxes against Csk, who are virtually out of contention but still hold the ability to spoil the party.
Barring opener Shubman Gill and Morgan, the entire Kkr side fell like a pack of cards against Punjab. Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi and Dinesh Karthik have clicked on a few occasions but they all need to shrug off their rustiness with the bat.

Dubai, Oct 24 (Ians/GloFans) Still looking for their first Indian Premier League (Ipl) title, Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) have everything to gain when they clash with Chennai Super Kings (Csk) as Virat Kohli's team would look to seal a playoff berth here on Sunday.
At the moment, Rcb are placed third, behind Mumbai Indians (Mi) and Delhi Capitals, with 14 points from 10 matches. They have four more matches to play, including Sunday's game, and they have good chances of making the grade as they look in fine form.
On the other hand, three-time champions Csk are virtually out of the playoff contention, though mathematically they still have an outside chance. With eight defeats from 11 games, Csk are placed at the bottom of the points table. Nevertheless, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's team would look finish off the tournament gracefully -- with a few wins.

Dubai, Oct 21 (Ians) Shikhar Dhawan etched his name in history books by becoming the first player to score back-to-back centuries in the history of the Indian Premier League (Ipl).
Dhawan, who was yet to score a century in T20 cricket before he scored an unbeaten 101 against Chennai Super Kings (Csk) last Saturday, was unbeaten yet again, on 106 off 61 balls, during Delhi Capitals' (DC) match against Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) at the Dubai International Stadium which his team lost by five wickets on Tuesday.
Dhawan took just 57 balls to score his century. He hit 12 fours and three sixes and accounted for more than half of what his team managed with DC ending their innings on 164/5 off 20 overs batting first. Although he ended up on the losing side, no one can take anything away his magnificent effort.

New Delhi, Oct 4 (Ians) Former India opener Gautam gambhir has jumped to the defence of off-colour Chennai Super Kings (Csk) all-rounder Shane Watson, saying he would give him four to five more Ipl matches to help him regain form.
Csk find themselves at the bottom of the Ipl table this season after three defeats in four matches. Their batting has looked rusty and there are many calling for opener Watson to be dropped, among other things.
However, former India captain Gambhir feels it is a bad idea to drop Watson considering he has been a consistent performer and the Csk's batting lineup as a whole is struggling.
"I would never drop Shane Watson, because their entire batting order looks so rusty. Kedar Jadhav looks rusty. Ambati Rayudu looks rusty," Gambhir said in a chat show on ESPNCricinfo.
"I know Shane Watson is not in the best of form, imagine replacing Shane Watson with Ruturaj Gaekwad?...

Dubai, Oct 1 (Ians/GloFans) An off-colour Chennai Super Kings (Csk), coming back after a six-day rest, will hope for a change of luck when they clash with SunRisers Hyderabad (Srh) in an Ipl match between wooden-spooners at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium here on Friday evening.
Both teams are placed at the bottom of the eight-table points table with two points each from three matches. Although there is enough time for the two teams to stage a comeback into the tournament, it is always better to qualify for the play-offs as early as possible - and then try out experiments.
Despite being at the receiving end in their last two games, three-time champions Csk have a reputation of starting the league shakily before making a roaring comeback in the later-half of the league. That goes for all teams, and not just Csk.

Dubai, Sep 27 (Ians) Having played a vital role in Delhi Capitals' emphatic 44-run win against the Chennai Super Kings, South African pacer Anrich Nortje will look to continue the same run of form in his debut Indian Premier League (Ipl) season.
Nortje, who went wicket-less in his debut game against Kings XI Punjab, finally opened his account on Friday at the cricket extravaganza by scalping two crucial wickets against Ms Dhoni-led Csk in his second outing. While defending the total of 176 runs, he bagged his first Ipl wicket in the form of Murali Vijay during the last powerplay over and then removed Kedar Jadhav in the 16th over to put his side in the driver's seat.
"It's just unbelievable. It's great to get a wicket finally, I mean after not getting one in the first game. I felt like to come in and run in today, just give it my best,...

Dubai, Sep 26 (Ians) Slow starts have hurt Chennai Super Kings in both their defeats, skipper Ms Dhoni said on Friday after Csk faced a second consecutive loss while chasing a target of 176 set by the Delhi Capitals. Csk were restricted to 131/7 as they struggled to keep up with the required run rate.
"We are lacking a bit of steam in the batting and that hurts," said Dhoni on Star Sports after the match. "The run rate keeps on mounting after such slow starts and adds pressure, we need to figure that out. We need to come back with a clearer picture, looking at the combination."
On Friday, openers Shane Watson and Murali Vijay both only managed to score 23 runs in the first four overs. The run rate never climbed and Csk found themselves 95/3 at the start of the 15th over. Dhoni said that the return of Ambati Rayudu, who was...

Dubai, Sep 25 (Ians) Prithvi Shaw's 64 and a clinical bowling performance led by South African duo Kagiso Rabada (3/26) and Anrich Nortje (2/21) helped Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Chennai Super Kings (Csk) by 44 runs in their Ipl encounter on Friday.
Chasing a target of 176, Csk hardly ever looked capable of reaching the score and were restricted to 131/7 at the end of 20 overs. This is the three-time champions' second consecutive defeat this season.
This is the first time since 2010 that DC have started an Ipl season with two consecutive victories. They are on top of the table now with four points.
DC's Axar Patel continued his successful run against Shane Watson, dismissing the veteran Australian in the fifth over while he was on 14 off 16 balls. Watson's opening partner Murali Vijay (10) also struggled to get runs on board and succumbed to Nortje in the next over.
