While much of America's comedy venues remained dark and silent in the days following the recent terrorist attacks, this week America's comics will be getting back to making people laugh, but none are pretending it will be business as usual. Jay Leno, who is scheduled to go back on the air on Tuesday, told The Los Angeles Times he is apprehensive about his return. "There are people who feel the fact that you're on TV at all is inappropriate," Leno said. "At some point you say, OK, let's try to get some sense of normalcy." And while Leno may go extra-easy with one of his favorite comic punching-bags, George W. Bush, Comedy Central's The Daily Show has been going so far as to excise anti-Bush humor from the re-runs they've been showing while they re-group before returning to the air. Other comics have turned their sharpened tongues on those responsible. Comedian Argus Hamilton was already composing jokes for his syndicated humor service and web site the day of the attack. "Fifteen minutes after the attack," one of his jokes goes, "The Weather Channel reported that the five-day forecast for Afghanistan is two days." While America has demonstrated an appetite for the escape and catharsis laughter offers -- pushing the new Keanu Reeves baseball comedy, Hardball, to the number one box-office slot over the weekend -- comedians still suggest it's going to be tough to get back to work. Says comedian and co-creator of The Daily Show, Lizz Winstead, "You have to have a perspective. And at this point I can't think of a single person in the world who has perspective."
