New Delhi, May 20 (Ians) Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh opined young Rinku Singh was the X-factor for Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) this season and not star all-rounder Andre Russell.
Rinku has been the standout performer for the two-time Ipl champions. He has scored 407 runs in 13 matches this season at a strike rate of 143.31 and an average of 50.88.
“Now Rinku has become the X-factor for Kkr, not Russell. Russell’s era is gone. It’s Rinku’s time now. Even if Rinku is sent up, he can do justice to his role. He is a player of different calibre and we will soon see an India cap on his head,” Harbhajan said while speaking on Star Sports’ Cricket Live.
Meanwhile, former India chief coach Ravi Shastri said that Rinku is the star of the Kkr team and has a very strong attitude.

Kolkata, April 14 (Ians) Nitish Rana’s fighting captain’s knock (75 off 41) and Rinku Singh’s unbeaten fifty (58 not out) went in vain as Sunrisers Hyderabad (Srh) beat Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) by 23 runs in an Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 match at Eden Gardens, here on Friday.
After losing three early wickets, Rana held the fort for Kkr with his vital innings, which had six maximums and five boundaries while runs also flowed from Rinku’s bat but it wasn’t enough to take Kkr over the line.
Chasing a mammoth 228-run target, Kkr had a slow start as Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck in the very first over, sending Rahmanullah Gurbaz back for a third ball duck and giving away just one run off the over. After 3 runs coming off the next over, Venkatesh Iyer and N Jagadeesan went for a few hits against Bhuvneshwar in his second over.

Kolkata, April 14 (Ians) Harry Brooks’ unbeaten and maiden century and Aiden Markram’s half-century propelled Sunrisers Hyderabad (Srh) to 228/4 against Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) in an Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 match at Eden Gardens, here on Friday.
With Brooks’ brilliant 100 off 55 balls, including 12 boundaries and three maximums, skipper Markram 50 off 26 along with Abhishek Sharma (32 off 17) and Heinrich Klaasen’s (16 off 6) quickfire), Srh posted the season’s highest total on the board.
Brook gave a flying start to Srh, hitting Umesh Yadav for three boundaries. The England batter continued with his fearless hitting as he smashed Umesh again in the third over for two back-to-back maximums, taking 15 runs off the over.
In the next over, Kkr introduced spin in the form of Sunil Narine in order to put brakes on the visitor’s run rate, which turned to be fruitful as Narine gave away just three runs off the fourth over.

Kolkata, April 14 (Ians) Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) won the toss and opted to bowl first against Sunrisers Hyderabad (Srh) in an Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 match at Eden Gardens, here on Friday.
While Kkr remained unchanged, Srh made one change in their line-up with Abhishek Sharma coming in for Washington Sundar.
“We’ve been practicing here and there has been dew. Keeping that in mind, we want to chase,” Kkr captain Rana said at the toss.
On the other hand, Srh skipper Aiden Markram said: “Would have looked to bowl, that is the trend. This is a high scoring wicket, so happy to get runs on the board. Nice to get a win, and today is a fresh start. Hopefully, we can do well. I don’t think we’ll set a target, you need to look at the pitch and then reassess. Whatever we get we’ll try our best to defend.

Kolkata, April 6 (Ians) Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl first against Kolkata Knight Riders in an Ipl 2023 match at Eden Gardens, here on Thursday.
The match, which Kolkata are playing a home game for the first time after 2019, also marks Sunil Narine’s 150th Ipl game, with Andre Russell completing a century of appearances in the tournament.
Kolkata come into their first home game of Ipl 2023 on the back of a seven-run loss to Punjab Kings in a rain-hit game, while Bangalore arrive after beating Mumbai Indians by eight wickets.
After winning the toss, Du Plessis said England’s left-arm pace all-rounder David Willey came in for Reece Topley, who suffered a right shoulder dislocation while fielding.
“There was dew last night. Hoping it will get skiddy in the second innings. Reaching the playoffs is a long way away. Today is a completely new game.

New Delhi, April 6 (Ians) Former Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody believes that a player of Shimron Hetmyers calibre should come to bat after Jos Buttler and captain Sanju Samson in the Rajasthan Royals’ line-up not lower down the order as West Indian is capable of playing more number of overs.
Chasing 198 against Punjab Kings in Guwahati, Royals were reduced to 91/4 in 11 overs. The equation then went down to 77 runs needed off 36 deliveries. Hetmyer, coming out to bat at number seven, took Royals close with his 18-ball 36 blitz, though he fell in the final over as the 2008 Ipl champions fell short by five runs.
“I think he’s a far better player than that. He is not a (Kieron) Pollard or Andre Russell type player that’s geared for the last six overs. Both these players are obviously Ipl icons so they’ve got specific skill sets. Hetmyer can potentially...

Now we play very positive and aggressive cricket. I want to bat freely in every competition and the result will take care of itself.

Mumbai, Dec 20 (Ians) With batters like Venkatesh Iyer, Gurbaz, Nitish Rana, Shreyas Iyer, and Andre Russell in their lineup, former India star Sanjay Manjrekar believes that the Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) need some pace support and therefore they should go for pace-bowling allrounders like Shardul Thakur and Lockie Ferguson in the upcoming Ipl 2023 Auction at Kochi on December 23.
Speaking exclusively on Star Sports show ‘Game Plan – Auction Special’, Manjrekar spoke on how Kkr will approach the auction with the limited funds they have and the replacements they will be looking for in this year’s auction.
“When I look at Kkr’s playing eleven, Venkatesh Iyer, Gurbaz, Nitish Rana, Shreyas Iyer, Andre Russell, the batting looks Ok, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy are there. So, I think it’s some pace support is what they need and understandably that’s where they pay the big bucks, so you can understand that,...

New Delhi, Dec 20 (Ians) Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa shared his thoughts on the list of players Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings would look at, during the Ipl Player Auction on December 23.
Uthappa said Kkr needs to find a backup for Andre Russell.
“Kkr would be looking for three players in this auction — one would be an Indian backup wicketkeeper for Gurbaz. In case, they want flexibility in playing both Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson, Gurbaz is the one who would have to sit out as they are not going to drop Sunil Narine and Andre Russell,” said Uthappa, who is part of JioCinema’s Ipl Player Auction Expert Panel.
“Second player is a backup to Andre Russell. Ipl is going back to its original format. So, it is not going to be just one or two venues. There will be a lot of travel. Kkr is one...

Abu Dhabi, Dec 4 (Ians) The Deccan Gladiators have in their squad one of the most destructive batters in world cricket in Andre Russell, and coach Mushtaq Ahmed explained that impact players like him need as much time as possible in the middle so that they can affect the game positively.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sixth season of Abu Dhabi T10, the former Pakistan spinner said, “Andre Russell has the X-factor and you have to send him in early. Last year also I made him open the batting, and this time also I had a word with him and told him that he has all the freedom to do what he needs to. In T10 or T20 cricket, you have to take the big decisions and hope that the plans pay off. And I am glad that so far our decisions have worked out well.”

Carrara (Gold Coast), Oct 5 (Ians) An almost full-strength Australia squad, including David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, will be up against the West Indies in a short two-match T20I series beginning at the Metricon Stadium here later on Wednesday, with both sides looking to give final touches to their preparations ahead of the T20 World Cup, beginning on October 16.
Dashing opener Warner, who was rested from the three-match T20I India tour, will be back along with Marsh — who was sidelined due to an ankle injury — and pace spearhead Mitchell Starc, who was tending to a knee issue.
However Ashton Agar and Kane Richardson, who are both members of Australia’s 15-member T20 World Cup squad, are not part of the series.
“We have and are taking a cautious approach with the World Cup on the near horizon,” National Selection Panel (Nsp) Chair George Bailey was quoted as saying by cricket.
