Elsa Jourbert was a South African novelist who rose to prominence with her novel "The Long Journey of Poppie Nongena," which was translated into 13 languages and also staged as a drama before being released as the film, "Poppie Nongena" (2019).
She received numerous awards during her career including the Hertzog Prize (probably the most prestigious award for Afrikaans writing), and an honorary doctorate from the University of Stellenbosch.
