Luis Bras(1923-1995)
- Director
A pioneer in the argentine experimental animation Luis Ricardo Bras graduated from School of Plastic Arts of Rosario in 1947 at 24 years old as a teacher of drawing. He worked as filleting (painter of the filigrees that were used in vehicles during the twentieth century in Argentina), stained glass designer, painter of handmade parchments and as a graphic designer and at the beginning of the sixties illustrator in advertising. Bras also designed and made bank checks, product labels and reminder parchments. He worked for television, animating about 300 advertisements for the agency Camilo Serbali. With a borrowed camera of 16 mm and basic knowledge about realization of cartoons acquired by a Disney documentary, he devoted himself to experimentation. In 1964, Bras met with the complete works of the Scottish-Canadian animator Norman McLaren (1914-1987) at a performance of the Cine Club Rosario. Guessing the techniques and procedures he experienced it by direct scratching on 16 mm films.
