New Delhi, July 19 (Ians) Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed on Wednesday said Indian cricket team will look to win gold in what would be their official debut at the Asian Games.
He commented on the fact that cricket is being represented in having the chance to win a yellow metal is a matter of great pride.
This is the second time the men’s cricket team will play in a multi-sport event. The Indian men’s cricket team played at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in a 50-over format. The matches, however, were not accorded international status and were recorded as List A games.
“Our tournament starts for us from the quarter-final stages. All the teams would be good and well prepared. We hope for the gold medal for the country,” Shahbaz Ahmed told a YouTube channel ‘Cricket Basu’.

Bengaluru, July 5 (Ians) Pacer Vidwath Kaverappa picked up 5/29 to help South Zone bowl out North Zone for 198, though they were left reeling at 63/4 in first semi-final of Duleep Trophy, here on Wednesday. In the other semi-final, all-rounder Atit Sheth staged a rescue act to take West Zone from 110/6 to 216/8 against Central Zone.
Under overcast skies at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, where 14 wickets fell in a day, Kaverappa was the star in bowling out North Zone below 200. Barring Prabhsimran Singh, who top-scored with 49, none of the other North Zone batters could stand up against a quality South Zone bowling attack.
Put into batting first, North Zone were reduced to 18/3 in the first hour, before Prabhsimran and Ankit Kumar (33) steadied the innings with a crucial 79-run stand. After the duo fell, Harshit Rana made a quick 22-ball 31, but wasn’t able to take North Zone past 200 as Washington Sundar (1/44) took him out.

Hyderabad, April 25 (Ians) Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Brian Lara has taken his batters to task for their failure to chase a target of 145 against Delhi Capitals. There was no devil in the pitch and they should have achieved the target, Lara said after the match.
In one of the worst possible chases of a target, Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to achieve a target of 145 against Delhi Capitals in Match 34 of India Premier League (Ipl) 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International here on Monday.
Though Srh bowlers had performed brilliantly to reduce Delhi Capitals to 62/5 before allowing them to reach 144/9, thanks to a run-a-ball 34 by Axar Patel and a 27-ball 34 by Manish Pandey.

With Delhi Capitals having opened their account in Ipl 2023, Warner said they are looking forward to winnings a few more games.
Warner said that Prithvi Shaw, who has been struggling for form, has been left out with fellow-Mumbai Ranji player Sarfaraz Khan coming into the playing XI. Ripal Patel made it to the playing XI at the expense of Lalit Yadav.
“We will bat first. Looks like a nice surface to bat on, has a nice even sheen to it. If you set a decent total, you can defend it for sure. It’s about being consistent here. We got to start well in the first 6 overs with bat and ball as well.

Chennai, April 21 (Ians) Chennai Super Kings (Csk) won the toss and elected to bowl first against Sunrisers Hyderabad (Srh) in an Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 match at Ma Chidambaram Stadium, here on Friday.
Both sides remained unchanged for this game.
“This pitch is 50-50 because it is slightly cloudy. There might be dew so it is always better to chase. All packed together on the points table, we need to do well and not look at the table at this moment. Combination-wise, we have been fortunate because we haven’t had all players available. The headaches start later when everyone becomes available,” Csk skipper Ms Dhoni said at the toss.
Srh captain Aiden Markram said there will be the same 16 but since they are batting first here, there will be a change to the XI.
“We had a good game against Kkr batting first, so hopefully we can take a leaf out of that.

Hyderabad, April 19 (Ians) After losing to five-time champions Mumbai Indians in their Ipl 2023 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Tuesday, Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Brian Lara admitted that the side is still looking around for a batter in their middle-order who can finish matches like the way Rahul Tewatia and David Miller do.
In chasing 193, Hyderabad had contributions from Mayank Agarwal, captain Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen. But none of the trio could stay long to score big. Though Marco Jansen and Washington Sundar played some good cameos, they weren’t enough for Hyderabad to win the match and are now at ninth place in the points table.

Hyderabad, April 9 (Ians) Skipper Shikhar Dhawan played an extraordinary lone hand for Punjab Kings, smashing an unbeaten 99 as he batted through the innings but a four-fer by debutant leggie Mayank Markande saw Sunrisers Hyderahad restricting them to a below-par 143-9 in 20 overs here on Sunday.
Pbks lost wickets in quick succession and landed in a precarious situation at 88/9 before Dhawan launched a brilliant rearguard assault to pull them through to a respectable total. Dhawan batted through the innings to give his side a decent score.
At one time, it looked like Punjab may not even reach 100, but Dhawan had other ideas as he went after the bowling, shielding last-man Mohit Rathee (1 not out) to add 55 runs for the last-wicket partnership off 31 deliveries.
Dhawan blasted 12 boundaries and five sixes during his sensational innings and ended up scoring 69.2% of his team’s runs. This is the second-highest per cent after Brendon McCullum...

Their second victory at home meant Lucknow are the new table-toppers in the ten-team competition.
Krunal was undoubtedly the pick of the bowlers for Lucknow, constantly attacking the stumps to pick a tidy 3-18 in his four overs. Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra took 2-23 while Ravi Bishnoi, and Yash Thakur chipped in with a scalp each.

Lucknow drew first blood in the third over as Mayank Agarwal went for an uppish drive against Krunal, but he was undone by the flight and ended up giving a tame chip to cover. Anmolpreet Singh got some boundaries against spinners as well as Thakur with a lovely punch, sweep and chip over mid-off.

Lucknow, April 7 (Ians) Aiden Markram won his first toss as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad and elected to bat first against Lucknow Super Giants (Lsb) in Ipl 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Both teams enter Friday’s match after losses in their last game. While Hyderabad were thrashed by Rajasthan Royals by 72 runs, Lucknow suffered a 12-run defeat to Chennai Super Kings.
“The wicket looks quite dry. Hopefully, we can put up a good total. Ideally, we will get to our first win. Everyone seems in good spirits and full of energy. The guys are looking excited. Since we are batting first, Anmolpreet Singh will start,” said Markram.
Lucknow skipper K.L. Rahul said his team will look to adjust to the black soil pitch, which means less pace and bounce, without the services of Mark Wood and Avesh Khan, with Quinton de Kock also not playing.

Hyderabad, April 1 (Ians) Sunday afternoon’s clash will see two former champions Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals face-off at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. With equal firepower in both batting and bowling, stage is set for a high-octane clash between two teams that look strong on paper.
With Bhuvneshwar Kumar leading the side for his team’s opening game in Ipl 2023 as Aiden Markram is on international duty, he felt the bowling attack has a lot of experience in them, including tearaway pacer Umran Malik, whose stocks have risen since bursting through in 2021 edition of the tournament.
He also picked 22 wickets from 14 matches at an average of 20.18 and economy rate of 9.03, claiming one four-wicket haul and a five-wicket haul respectively in Ipl 2022, while playing an instrumental role in picking wickets for his franchise in the middle overs phase. He was also named as the emerging player of the season at the end of the competition.

Chennai, March 21 (Ians) The three-match Odi series against Australia following the four Tests for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy were expected to give a glimpse into India’s preparations for this year’s Odi World Cup at home.
The selectors were planning to Test some players before they finalise the squad for the World Cup. But going into the third match, the selectors may not be much wiser than at the start as the matches have exposed some chinks in the armour.
Both teams have won one match each thus matching the Chennai Odi, the series decider and the last chance for the Aussies to test the fitness of David Warner and Glenn Maxwell before the September ODIs in India and the World Cup.

New Delhi, Feb 19 (Ians) India captain Rohit Sharma will miss the first One-day International against Australia to be played in his hometown Mumbai on March 17 because of some family commitments, Bcci honorary secretary Jay Shah informed on Sunday.
Vice-captain Hardik Pandya, who led India in the last T20-i series against New Zealand, will lead the Odi side in Rohit’s absence, Shah said in a release on Sunday.

Lucknow, Jan 30 (Ians) Though India registered a nervy six-wicket win over New Zealand in the second T20I, captain Hardik Pandya criticised the ‘spin-dominating’ pitch here, calling it shocker of a wicket and not suitable for T20 cricket.
Indian bowlers — Arshdeep Singh (2-7), Yuzvendra Chahal (1-4), Kuldeep Yadav (1-17), Deepak Hooda (1-17), Washington Sundar (1-17) and Hardik Pandya (1-25) — produced a sensational performance to restrict New Zealand to 99/8 in 20 overs.
Chasing a small total on a challenging pitch, India were also in trouble after they were reduced to 50/3 in 10.4 overs but Suryakumar Yadav once again showed his class.
Yadav played a crucial knock (26 not out off 31), stitched vital partnerships with Washington Sundar (10) and Hardik Pandya (15 not out), and eventually hit the winning boundary for India in the last over.
“To be honest, it was a shocker of a wicket. Both the games we have played so far. I don’t mind difficult wickets.

Lucknow, Jan 29 (Ians) A sensational performance by the bowlers followed by Suryakumar Yadav’s hard-fought knock guided India to a nervy six-wicket win over New Zealand in the second T20I and levelled the three-match series 1-1 on a spin-friendly pitch at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, here on Sunday.
The low-scoring encounter also witnessed an unusual feat as not a single six was hit on 239 legal deliveries bowled during the second T20I.
Spinners spun the web and took the first five wickets of New Zealand, who never got the momentum throughout the batting innings. The Indian pacers then did a brilliant finishing job as the visitors were restricted to 99/8 in 20 overs.
Arshdeep Singh (2-7) was the most successful bowler for India while Yuzvendra Chahal (1-4), Kuldeep Yadav (1-17), Deepak Hooda (1-17), Washington Sundar (1/17) and Hardik Pandya (1/25) also picked vital wickets at regular intervals.

New Zealand, who are leading the series 1-0, didn’t make any changes to their side.

Ranchi, Jan 28 (Ians) India’s off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar believes seam-bowling all-rounder Daryl Mitchell’s unbeaten 59 off 30 balls, including hitting 27 runs in the final over of first T20I on Friday, made a difference between the two teams.
Before the start of New Zealand’s final over, they were at 149/6 and in danger of not getting a score above 160. But Mitchell had other ideas, hitting three sixes and a four off a wayward Arshdeep Singh, including off a no-ball, and ended up collecting 27 runs in the last over of New Zealand’s innings, setting them up for a 21-run victory at the Jsca International Stadium.
“Obviously, Daryl’s innings was very crucial for them and as I said 150 would’ve been par and we would’ve been very happy with that going inside, but yes he made the difference by actually getting a half-century for himself. He played till the...

Indore, Jan 24 (Ians) Fantastic centuries by Shubman Gill (112 off 78) and Rohit Sharma (101 off 85) along with Hardik Pandya’s vital fifty (54 off 38) powered India to a massive 385/9 in the third and final Odi against New Zealand at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, here on Tuesday.
Gill and Rohit put on an excellent exhibition of batting by hitting sixes and boundaries all around the park, stitching a stand of 212 runs for the opening wicket. The likes of Virat Kohli (36), Ishan Kishan (17) and Suryakumar Yadav (14) got starts but couldn’t convert them to big scores, otherwise, India could have scored even more.

Indore, Jan 24 (Ians) New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and opted to field first in the third and final Odi against India at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, here on Tuesday.
New Zealand, who are seeking the consolation win, made one change in their playing XI with Jacob Duffy replacing Henry Shipley.
“We are gonna have a bowl, it is a good surface and it will get better under lights. We have put on good performances in the past and will look to put another good performance here. It will be high-scoring and the nature of the boundaries are short. We have got one change, Jacob Duffy comes in for Henry Shipley,” said Latham at the toss.
On the other hand, India, who have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, made two changes as Umran Malik and Yuzvendra Chahal come in for Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami.

Indore, Jan 23 (Ians) After taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Odi series, India could be looking at making some changes to their playing eleven for the third and final game as they seek a 3-0 finish against New Zealand at Holkar Stadium on Tuesday.
After a 3-0 series victory over Sri Lanka, India wouldn’t want to let their guard down in a dead rubber and inflict a series sweep over a New Zealand missing stalwarts like Kane Williamson and Tim Southee.
New Zealand, on the other hand, will have pride to play for in Indore and a win would do their confidence a world of good ahead of the three T20Is against India, where Mitchell Santner will be captaining them.

New Delhi, Jan 22 (Ians) Former Pakistan Cricket Board (Pcb) chairman Ramiz Raja showered rich praise on India opener Shubman Gill for his performances in ODIs this year, saying he has got enough potential to succeed and even compared to his opening partner, India captain Rohit Sharma.
“Shubman Gill looks like a mini-Rohit Sharma. He has extra time and looks good. He has enough potential. Aggression will also develop with time. He doesn’t need to change anything. He scored a double hundred recently,” said Raja in a video on his Youtube channel.
Gill was unbeaten on 40 in India’s successful chase of 109 against New Zealand at Raipur, while Rohit top-scored with an eye-catchy 51. “Batting was easy for India because they have an outstanding batter like Rohit Sharma. He plays exceedingly well. He is an amazing striker of hook-and-pull shots, so a 108-run chase becomes easy,” added Raja, a former Pakistan cricketer.

Raipur, Jan 21 (Ians) India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first against New Zealand in the second Odi at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Cricket Stadium on Saturday. India are currently leading the three-match series 1-0.
Rohit admitted he forgot what was actually decided to do on winning the toss and added that India are playing with the same eleven from the 12-run victory in Hyderabad.
“Just wanted to challenge ourselves under difficult conditions. Was a good test for us, knowing that the wicket will get better to bat on and that was the challenge in front of us. Bracewell batted well, but we bowled well in the end and won the game.”
“There was a bit of dew during the practice sessions, but we’ve heard from the curator that it will not play a role on game days. We batted first in Hyderabad, we wanted to bowl first here,...

Raipur, Jan 20 (Ians) After surviving a mighty scare from all-rounder Michael Bracewell in a successful defence of 349 in the first match, India will be aiming to overcome New Zealand challenge in the second Odi and clinch back to back 50-over match series at home here, which will be Raipur’s debut as an international cricket venue on Saturday.
The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Cricket Stadium, with a crowd capacity of 49,000, is all set to become the 50th venue in India to host an Odi match. In this huge backdrop, the capacity crowd being treated to India clinching an Odi series for the second time in 2023 will add more stars to the occasion. But there are some glitches which the Rohit Sharma-led...
