Once upon a time, I believed any completed movie that found release was a minor miracle. After enduring Harmony Korine’s infrared-only Aggro Dr1ft (written in “leetspeak”), the first production under the filmmaker’s new boundary-pushing “multimedia design collective” Edglrd, that mantra is shattered. This movie is theatrical imprisonment. Its duration? A life sentence. Aggro Dr1ft is an 80-minute music video masquerading as a provocative and startlingly stylized action flick that’s devoid of any provocation, groundbreaking style, or on-screen action.
Aggro Dr1ft follows a downtrodden Miami-based mercenary, Bo (Jordi Mollà), who wishes to vanquish a demonic crimelord and become a stay-at-home family man. It’s a crayon-box blur of fuchsia skies and lavender skin tones, paintball-masked mini militias mean-mugging on yachts with hot tubs, mumbled dialogue lost underneath Edm tracks, and robotic performances so unintelligible you’d think you’re being pranked. Travis Scott randomly appears as a next-generation assassin,...

Lauryn Hill and her son Yg Marley appeared on The Tonight Show to perform a medley of three songs, “Ex-Factor,” “Survival,” and “Praise Jah in the Moonlight.” The duo was accompanied by a live band and three back-up singers for the dynamic, soulful performance.
Marley, Hill’s son with Rohan Marley, has been performing with her onstage since childhood. “Ex-Factor” comes off Hill’s 1998 LP, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, while Marley released “Praise Jah in the Moonlight” in 2023 and dropped “Survival” this week. Plot: An assassin (Jordi Molla) is hired to kill a deadly adversary.
Review: Note – This Was Reviewed At TIFF 2023. There’s at least one thing about Harmony Korine‘s Aggro Dr1ft that’s amazing: the fact that being shot in infrared isn’t the most obnoxious thing about this 80-minute endurance test. It’s not much of a film but rather purely experimental fare that Korine could have released online rather than at a major film festival. Many have pointed out that it plays like a cutscene from Grand Theft Auto, where it is directed in infrared by a horny, none-too-bright teenager obsessed with the imagery for nineties gangster rap videos. This is a movie where the bad guy goes on for minutes swinging swords repeating “dance b*tch, dance” over and over (and over) again.
One does have to give Korine some credit for his audacity in that...

I have seen the future of cinema, and it is “Aggro Dr1ft,” a neon-hued outlaw eyegasm from the director of ”Spring Breakers.” There will likely never be another film like it. Even so, it’s clear that Harmony Korine’s immersive iridescent plunge into the world and psyche of a serial killer points the way down fresh avenues for the medium to explore.
This is the first movie I’ve seen that doesn’t feel like it was meant to be watched; instead, it was designed to wash over you — or maybe just to unspool on one of the many screens illuminated in your field of vision, while your focus ricochets between it and whatever else is competing for your attention. As Brian De Palma’s “Scarface” became a touchstone cultural reference for the immigrant and hip-hop communities, so too could “Aggro Dr1ft” connect with audiences who see themselves (or...

Chad Stahelski is paying it forward.
When he’s not conducting well-choreographed chaos for Keanu Reeves’ John Wick, Stahelski strives to lift up the stunt community that launched his career as a stunt performer, as well as his second act as a director. With the success of the John Wick franchise, Stahelski and his company, 87eleven Entertainment, now have the cachet to create opportunities for other stunt professionals with filmmaking aspirations, just like Reeves did for him and his former partner, David Leitch.
So when Stahelski’s friend and John Wick: Chapter 2 supervising stunt coordinator J.J. Last Friday, Netflix released a fun vampire slayer action flick called Day Shift (you can read our 7/10 review Here)… and if you watched the movie, you may have noticed that it had a goofy end credits song called “Mowing Down Vamps”, which built a tune around a line spoken by the character played by Dave Franco (The Disaster Artist). The song around Franco’s line was performed by The Bsb Boys (J Young Mdk and Sam Pounds) alongside the film’s star Jamie Foxx (Spider-Man: No Way Home) – and now Foxx has released a video for the song.
The music video, directed by Taylor Chien, features Foxx, Franco, some vampire fights, and a good dose of silliness. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Meagan Good's latest film role is keeping her optimistic about motherhood. The veteran actor stars in Netflix's "Day Shift" alongside Jamie Foxx (who plays a blue-collar vampire hunter named Bud Jablonski) - as well as Dave Franco, Snoop Dogg, and Karla Souza - as his ex-wife Jocelyn, who threatens to take their daughter, Paige (Zion Broadnax), to Florida to live a better life away from his unpredictable profession. When Bud accidentally slays the offspring of a vampire boss named Audrey (Souza), he scrambles to keep his family out of harm's way, but they soon become collateral damage.

Now streaming on Netflix, Day Shift turns Jamie Foxx into a vampire-slayer, and the movie has now received an official music video for the original song that plays over the end credits.
Jamie Foxx and co-star Dave Franco are featured in director Taylor Chien‘s video for “Bud (Mowing Down Vamps),” which also features J Young Mdk and Sam Pounds.
Listen to the song here and watch the official video below.
Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco are “cuttin’ necks and cashin’ checks” in Netflix‘s vampire movie Day Shift, which sank its teeth into the streaming service on August 12th.
“Foxx stars as a hard working blue collar dad who wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international union of hunters.

J.J. Perry started his career in Hollywood by getting hit by cars. Now, he’s taking on his first project for the big screen. In “Day Shift,” Perry used his extensive knowledge of stunts and action scenes to create vampire-slaying sequences with garlic grenades, katanas and silver bullets.
“I prepped this movie so hard,” Perry told Variety Wednesday evening at the red carpet premiere for the film in Los Angeles. “I think we ended up with, like, 65 setups. [The first day on set] was the opening fight in the grandma’s house. We shot that in three days. It would usually take people about five or six days. We were ready. We knew what we were doing. A bunch of action guys doing action stuff.”

[The first day on set] was the opening fight in the grandma’s house. We shot that in three days. It would usually take people about five or six days. We were ready. We knew what we were doing. A bunch of action guys doing action stuff.”

Jamie Foxx has been a very busy man. Ever since he signed a development deal with Sony Pictures, which now has a licensing agreement for features with Netflix, he has worked on everything from a family-oriented comedy series to genre action flicks on the streaming platform.
The partnership continues with “Day Shift,” a vampire-hunting action comedy movie set in Los Angeles, co-starring Dave Franco, Karla Souza and Megan Good, with special appearances by Peter Stormare and Snoop Dogg.
It’s also the directorial debut of stunt coordinator and second-unit director J.J. Perry, and subsequently, the action scenes here are definitely impressive. And that’s great, because you will not be watching this movie for the script. “Day Shift” is what you get if you put “Supernatural” and “Training Day” in a juicer, extract the plots, and leave only epic fight sequences and lots of teeth.

“Day Shift” is a vampire thriller stuffed with lock-and-load ultraviolence, starring Jamie Foxx in imperious badass mode. At heart, though, it’s a knowingly eccentric goof of a movie, to the point that it’s hard, for a while, not to find it agreeable, even as you register what a preposterous piece of fluff it is. Unfortunately, it’s also an arduous piece of fluff. , especially when the rules are applied as inconsistently as they are here. Directed by J.J. Perry, “Day Shift” wants to be a dessert drenched in blood. That gives it flavor but also weighs it down.
Foxx plays Bud Jablonski, a Los Angeles vampire hunter whose day job is driving around in an ancient pick-up truck to clean and service swimming pools in the San Fernando Valley. Bud’s one and only goal is to get his hands on 10,000, which he needs to pay for the...

Netflix’s latest, Day Shift, marks longtime stunt coordinator J.J. Perry’s feature directorial debut and is produced by John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski. As if that action caliber wasn’t enough, Day Shift employs contortionists and performers from Cirque du Soleil to portray its bendy, acrobatic vampires. That results in a horror comedy that’s heavy on style and action spectacle… but slight on substance and laughs.
Jamie Foxx stars as San Fernando Valley pool cleaner Bud Jablonski. The pool cleaning gig merely fronts for Bud’s career choice: a freelance vampire slayer selling vamp fangs for profit. When estranged wife Jocelyn (Meagan Good) announces plans to move their daughter Paige (Zion Broadnax) to Florida, Bud turns to pal Big John Elliott (Snoop Dogg) to get him back in the Union’s good graces to earn enough quick cash to keep his family close. A man pulls up to a quiet house in the San Fernando Valley and heads toward a littered pool. He begins to clean, using a net to grab empty beer bottles and a drowned possum. Then, without prompting, he enters the seemingly empty house. He surveys the area, and out of thin air, an old woman appears. The man shoots her in the heart, initiating a fiery battle. She is a vampire. He is a hunter.
Day Shift, J.J. Perry’s rowdy directorial debut, opens with this twisted, action-packed scene. The man, Bud Jablonski (Jamie Foxx), and the vampire face off in a minutes-long, intricately choreographed fight. They leap from room to room, scale walls, contort their bodies like pretzels, fire guns and, in the case of the vampire, try to get a bite or two in.
The economical introduction levels expectations for this breezy popcorn entertainment.

It's not easy being a vampire hunter. Bud Jablonski (Jamie Foxx) drives around in a run-down truck posing as a pool cleaner — but that's all a front for his battle against the blood-sucking undead. Yes, in "Day Shift," the new Netflix horror-comedy from director J. J. Perry, vampires are very real, and apparently all over Los Angeles — although only a select few know the truth. Bud is quite skilled at killing vamps, as we see in a brutal, bloody, funny opening scene in which he tussles with an elderly nosferatu who may look like a sweet old lady, but is in fact an acrobatic ass-kicker from beyond the grave.
Bud doesn't do what he does out of some noble pursuit to rid the world of vampires. No, he's just trying to make a living — because there's an entire underground market built up around the world of vampires and vampire hunters.

"Welcome to the Day Shift!" Netflix has revealed an official trailer for an action film titled Day Shift, a new vampire hunter thriller from a stuntman named JJ Perry making his feature directorial debut. This almost seems a bit like Netflix trying their hand at making a Blade movie (or franchise?) without the original IP to work with. Here's the pitch: A hard-working, blue-collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted 8-year-old daughter. His mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income: hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters. Sounds cool. Starring Jamie Foxx as "B. Jablonski", vampire killer, plus Dave Franco, Karla Souza, Meagan Good, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Oliver Masucci, Snoop Dogg, Steve Howey, Scott Adkins, & Zion Broadnax. It's wild they're promoting this as "from the guys who taught John Wick...
