Coming soon from SpookHouse MediaWorks and Strange Films Studios is a horror movie titled Piglet, the latest twisted take on a public domain character from the Pooh universe.
The team tells Bd, “This new take on the public domain character Piglet blends elements of classic slasher films like Friday the 13th and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.”
“We’re sparing no expense to stay true to the genre’s practical effects roots and create a truly nightmare-inducing experience. With an ensemble cast, Piglet is primed to be a cult classic in the making,” they continue, also comparing the upcoming film to Motel Hell.
Piglet will be directed by August Aguilar (The Gifted). The cast features Celeste Blandon (Phantom Fun-World), Jasper Hammer (All Eyes), and Brian Bremer (Pumpkinhead). The score is composed by Dr. Chud, formerly of the The Misfits.
Here’s the official synopsis…

Steven Spielberg and Denis Villeneuve are both incredible filmmakers who have shown the world that they are the best in what they do, but like many other directors out there, they have their own techniques and strategies when it comes to helming movies.

Both are massively known for their works on science fiction projects, but they do not share the same love and fascination for storyboarding. It’s part of the process of making movies, and sometimes, Spielberg likes to skip it.

With a love of cinema woven into its DNA, The Monster Squad helped indoctrinate ’80s kids to the classic monsters. The generation that grew up watching it on home video and HBO look back on the 1987 film with the same reverence director Fred Dekker had for the Universal monster movies, and now they’re passing it down in a similar fashion. There’s no better way to introduce the next generation than with the new 4K edition.
Conceived as “The Little Rascals meets the Universal Monsters,” the cleverly-plotted film clocks in at a tight 82 minutes. The punchy script by Dekker and Shane Black doesn’t have an ounce of fat on it, save for the casual homophobia, misogyny, and body shaming of the time. Drawing inspiration from Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, human characters offer well-placed levity and a bevy of memorable one-liners, but the monsters are played straight.

Evangeline and Bring It On: Cheer or Die director Karen Lam drew inspiration from Japanese films in general and an experimental silent film called Pages of Madness in particular when crafting her horror movie The Curse of Willow Song – and it seems to have turned out pretty well, as Fangoria reminds us that The Curse of Willow Song won the Best British Columbia Film award when it premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival way back in 2020. Now the film is finally making its way to DVD and digital, thanks to Uncork’d Entertainment, and a trailer can be seen in the embed above.
The DVD and digital release is scheduled for September 26th.
The Curse of Willow Song has the following synopsis: Willow Song, a recovering addict and parolee, struggles to start over. Willow finds herself in a concrete wasteland. Facing isolation and displacement, shadows creep into Willow’s mind...

Sequels are practically as old as cinema, with the very first thought to be The Fall of a Nation (1916), a cheapie knockoff/follow-up to the incredibly racist The Birth of a Nation from a year earlier. Ever since Hollywood has been keen to cash-in on sequels and ongoing sagas. Before the term “movie franchise” was even a glint in a studio executive’s eye, MGM was churning out high-quality Thin Man movies at MGM throughout the 1930s and ‘40s while Universal was introducing us to both Dracula’s Daughter (1936) and Son of Frankenstein (1939). One must wonder why the studio never got those two crazy kids together.
And yet, while sequels have been around forever, they’ve generally been seen as lesser-than until recently. By their nature, sequels are derivative, and there have been many filmmakers who were all too happy to embrace sameness while filling their working hours before and after lunch.

Toys have been a part of marketing for shows and films for a long time. The Masters of the Universe line of action figures came before the animated series, as we learned in the Netflix docuseries "The Toys That Made Us." The first "Star Wars" film toys were part of a mail-away campaign in 1978 before they were ready to be shipped. Toy marketing has also caused controversy in the past. Just think of the #WheresRey campaign when her figure was left out of a "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Monopoly set.
According to an interview /Film's own Rafael Motomayor did with animation writer Henry Gilroy, toys were a big reason for the cancelation of his animated series "G.I. Joe: Renegades." The show ran on The Hub from 2010 through 2011 for a single 26-episode season before being scrapped.
It's interesting to note that Hasbro created the G.I. Joe toy line in 1964, and though we had comics,...

Dalíland director Mary Hallon has said that Ezra Miller has not been removed from the forthcoming film after their name did not appear on a film festival cast list.
The actor, who uses they/them pronouns, has been involved in several recent allegations ranging from disorderly conduct and assault to burglary.
Last week, they said that they were in a period of “intense crisis” and “suffering complex mental health issues”.
Earlier in the month, a cast list had been announced for the TIFF premiere of Dalíland, a film which sees both Miller and Ben Kingsley star as Salvador Dalí.
With Miller’s name not among the cast list, some had speculated that they had been cut from the film.
However, director Hallon has now told Vanity Fair that this is not the case and that the actor still appears in three scenes.
“[Miller] turned in a completely realised performance,” she said.

A promising young actor with musical ability scores in several indie movies, gets cast as a key character in two big franchises, and starts getting into trouble with the law. They get hit with abuse, assault, and harassment allegations, is arrested twice for disorderly conduct, and a frightened couple takes out a restraining order against them.
Johnny Depp? Nope. Ezra Miller.
Miller, 29, scored rave reviews in “We Need to Talk About Kevin” and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” before landing the role of Credence Barebone in Jk Rowling’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and two sequels, as well as Barry Allen/The Scarlet Speedster/The Flash, which they (Miller uses “they/them” pronouns) portrayed in four Dceu films leading up to the 14th DC feature film, time-travel multiverse adventure “The Flash,” which features two alternate Batmans (Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck) and is now in post-production.
