The unfortunate circumstances surrounding Alec Baldwin’s Western, Rust, hadn’t deterred the production from continuing. After the immensely tragic events of the accidental killing of the movie’s former Director of Photography, Halyna Hutchins, filming would inevitably come to a halt in the wake of an investigation. The production resumed filming 18 months after a messy legal process since the star, Alec Baldwin, had discharged a faulty prop gun that had become legitimately loaded. Deadline has now revealed an exclusive first look at the film with newly released images.
According to Deadline, “Rust is based on a story developed by [writer/director] Joel Souza and Baldwin: A 13-year-old boy, left to fend for himself and his younger brother following the death of their parents in 1880s Kansas, is taken on a violent, harrowing journey to old Mexico by his long-estranged grandfather after he’s sentenced to hang for the accidental killing of a local rancher.

Exclusive: The first images from writer-director Joel Souza’s Western Rust starring Alec Baldwin have emerged. Deadline has the first look.
Late cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ visual style can be seen in two of the photos: the one of actress Frances Fisher in the doorway, and one of the lone rider to the right of the screen.
See the first-look photos below.
The other three photographs are the work of Dp Bianca Cline, who took over for Hutchins when the production resumed in April 2023 at the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Montana. The restart came 18 months after Hutchins was killed by a bullet from a prop gun held by Baldwin that discharged during rehearsals on Rust‘s New Mexico set.

As filmmakers spend all-nighters in the editing suite in order to submit their latest work in time for festival premieres, it’s no surprise that during the sometimes extensive wait between the first showing and a theatrical premiere, more tinkering is bound to be done. Today we have updates on two of the biggest films coming out of Cannes Film Festival and the how most audiences will experience them.
First up, Terrence Malick has been spending years editing A Hidden Life and, for the time being, all 173 glorious minutes will stay intact when Fox Searchlight releases it, producer Grant Hill confirmed with Deadline. “The love story was always there in A Hidden Life, it came out more and more as we went on,” he said about the long post-production process, which also led to the director’s longest theatrical release yet. Re-teaming with Malick after The Tree of Life, Fox Searchlight plans a 2019 release,...

In the Terrence Malick canon, A Hidden Life is reportedly one of his lower-budgeted films, with a net production cost in the high single digits. That’s significantly below the $32 million net cost of his 2011 Cannes Palme d’Or winner Tree of Life, which starred Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and a fresh-faced Jessica Chastain.
That’s remarkable considering Malick’s reputation for lengthy productions and improvised on-the-fly shooting, and A Hidden Life, about Austrian farmer-turned-wwii conscientious objector Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to fight for the Nazis, is reportedly the director’s longest production ever from pre-production to final cut. The majority of that time was spent in the editing room.
As riveting as Malick’s E.E. Cummings visual cinematic movies are, so too are their commercial prospects risky. For the most part, his movies don’t make money, even if they have stars like Natalie Portman, Christian Bale or Ben Affleck...

Exclusive: Terrence Malick’s Cannes Film Festival competition drama A Hidden Life has been hailed as an impressive return to form for the U.S. writer-director. Buyers immediately began circling after the film’s debut here yesterday, and Fox Searchlight has come out on top for U.S and a number of international markets in a highly competitive situation.
According to sources, deal is pegged at $12 million-$14 million and was hatched overnight with CAA Media Finance and Mister Smith. Paramount, Focus, A24, Netflix and others were among buyers hot on the trail. The deal is one of the biggest ever at a market for a movie shot in Germany.

Terrence Malick’s magnum opus fully expresses what might be called his ‘Unified Theory’ of cinema — which embraces the human experience from the core of family life to the creation and destruction of the universe. Even Stanley Kubrick didn’t go that far: he never filmed merciful dinosaurs or anything as simple as a mother who experiences rapture rolling in the grass with her young sons.

“I hope we get a wrap-up movie!”
“There had better be a two-night wrap-up movie!”
“Surely the producers will appease us with a great wrap-up movie.”
Such is the mantra of many a fan of a TV show that gets cancelled (unceremoniously or otherwise). But the fact of the matter is that, with extremely rare exception, that standalone serving of closure simply isn’t going to happen. And for quite practical reasons.
In recent years, there have been four instances of a cancelled series getting a “wrap-up movie.” In March 2015, HBO announced that Looking, its dramedy about gay friends living in San Francisco,...

Grant Hill has just retired after playing 19 seasons in the NBA and he is wasting no time in getting into family activities. The AP reports that Saturday night (June 8), Hill was on hand to support his wife Tamia as she performed a concert in New York.
At the Highline Ballroom in Manhattan, Hill and fellow NBA-er Amar'e Stoudemire sat in the VIP section and cheered on Tamia as she performed an R&B set for a couple hundred people in the venue.
Tamia reportedly acknowledged Hill before singing "Still," saying, "We're celebrating almost 15 years of marriage."
The 38-year-old singer was up for two Grammys in 2013 for her fifth studio album, "Beautiful Surprise." They were her fifth and sixth Grammy nominations overall since her 1998 self-titled debut album.

Having a legendary producer like Quincy Jones for one's debut single is a rare opportunity for most aspiring artists. Luckily for Canadian-bred singer-songwriter Tamia, Jones crafted her 1995 hit "You Put a Move On My Heart," which became a top ten R&B hit and earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
Seventeen years later, Tamia aims to recapture that chart-topping success with her June release, Beautiful Surprise.
During a candid interview with The Huffington Post, Tamia revealed details behind the album, sustaining her marriage to Grant Hill, her thoughts on the "Basketball Wives" franchise, and her battle with multiple sclerosis.
What has been the response to your new single, "Beautiful Surprise"?
It's awesome! Today I just found out that it was the number one most-added at Urban A/C, so I'm excited. It feels good to sort of get back to music.

Just before Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine, spoke to Oprah Winfrey on Monday, T-Pain told MTV News' Sway about reworking the musical icon's classic track "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)." The cut is on Quincy Jones' Q: Soul Bossa Nostra LP, which hit stores Tuesday.
"Aw, man, it was a mission, something I had to do, something Jackson asked me to do himself," Pain said at Lil Wayne's welcome-home party in Miami. "So it was basically a mission carried out by Quincy Jones. I think it's gonna be cool, 'cause, you know, before Jackson passed away, he was gonna do a tribute album of himself. It was gonna be everybody remaking his songs, and he was gonna be featured on the songs.
