Mumbai, Oct 1 (Ians) Former India Under-19 skipper Unmukt Chand, currently playing for Silicon Valley Strikers in Minor League Cricket (Mlc) in the United States, has suffered an eye injury during a cricket match, and said he is grateful “to have survived a possible disaster”.
The 29-year-old, who retired from Indian cricket to pursue his playing career in the US, recently became the first cricketer from the country to play in the Big Bash League, making his debut for Melbourne Renegades in Bbl-11.
On Saturday, he posted images of the brutal eye injury on social media, saying, “It’s never a smooth ride for an athlete. Some days you come home victorious, other days disappointed & there are some when you come home with bruises and dents. Grateful to God to have survived a possible disaster. Play hard but be safe. It’s a thin line. Thanku for the good wishes,” tweeted Unmukt.

New York, May 31 (Ians) Smit Patel, a member of the Indian under-19 2012 World Cup-winning team, is looking forward to playing in the Caribbean Premier League (Cpl) after officially saying goodbye to tournaments hosted by the Indian cricket board and moving to Arizona (US).
Patel would be hoping to make a mark for Barbados Tridents in the Cpl in August before moving on to the Major League Cricket (Mlc) in the USA and other franchise-based leagues across the world.
"It's a new innings for me. Starting with the highs of the under-19 World Cup, then the frustration of not finding a place as a wicket-keeper and then moving four teams [Gujarat, Tripura, Goa, and Baroda] within India for opportunities. All this is bound to happen when there's stifling competition, so I've got no complaints," Patel told cricinfo.com
"I'm blessed to have played for India at a world event. So, I'm moving on with happy memories.

New Delhi, March 22 (Ians) Bhuvneshwar Kumar's return to top-flight cricket from thigh injury, sustained in Ipl 2020, appears sudden and smooth due to his performance in the recent T20 series against England. But behind the success has been significant amount of work and some doubts on whether he will be fit prior to Ipl 2021.
The right-arm pacer, who was the most economical bowler across the two sides with a rate of 6.38 an over, simulated match conditions and put in the hard yards while practicing his variations and swing bowling at a Noida ground.
Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2020 edition, he practiced for close to two months in Noida. He was ruled out of Ipl due to thigh muscle injury during a match in the league phase of the cash-rich tournament, but post recuperation, he returned for about a fortnight's practice -- about a week before Mushtaq Ali...

New Delhi, Feb 12 (Ians) Pradeep Sangwan has been named Delhi captain ahead of Shikhar Dhawan for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day tournament for which the Delhi and District Cricket Association (Ddca) announced its 22-member squad on Friday. While opening batsman Dhawan is included in the squad he is not expected to be available after the first week of the tournament due to India's limited overs series against England which starts on March 12.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy is set to start on February 20 with Delhi facing Mumbai in their first match on February 21.
"Shikhar wouldn't have been able to continue beyond February 28 as he is part of the Indian limited overs team. He has to join the India team well ahead of the T20I series, probably on March 1," selector Chetanya Nanda told Ians.
"He himself suggested that someone who can lead Delhi throughout the tournament -- including knockouts if...

New Delhi, Nov 5 (Ians) SunRisers Hyderabad pacer Sandeep Sharma's ability to move the new ball has ensured that almost half of his 108 wickets have come in the powerplay in the Indian Premier league (Ipl). The right-armer has scalped Virat Kohli seven times in the Ipl history, a joint record. Not surprisingly, four of those Kohli dismissals have been in powerplay overs.
"The great thing about Sandeep's bowling that I have noticed since his early days is his good wrist position and his ability to swing the ball both ways. That makes it possible for him to trouble the batsmen, and that plays on their minds," said Munish Bali, Sharma's mentor and head coach of Punjab Ranji Trophy team.
Bali was also the assistant coach to Dav Whatmore when India won the 2008 under-19 World Cup, which the Kohli-led Indian team won.
