After losing the first two matches, India bounced back strongly and clinched the next two games to level up the series but couldn’t continue with the momentum in the decider as they suffered their first T20 series loss against West Indies since 2017.
Moreover, this was India’s first series loss in 13 T20Is since July 2021.

After winning the toss, India skipper Hardik Pandya said: “We will bat first. Always feel, we should challenge ourselves. It was a good track. It played better than last year. You need to be courageous on these types of wickets. Arsh has a big heart. Even if you can make a good comeback even in the last two balls, it makes a difference.
“Happy to bowl first.

West Indies are currently leading the five-game series 2-1.
After winning the toss, Powell said Jason Holder is back after recovering from injury, as well as Odean Smith and Shai Hope come into the playing eleven in place of Johnson Charles, Roston Chase and Alzarri Joseph.
“Looks like a very good surface, we want to put up some runs on the board and try to defend it. I think it is an opportunity for us to win a series against a big team like India and the boys are excited about it,” he said.
India captain Hardik Pandya said he would have liked to bat first as well while adding that the visitors are unchanged from their last game in Guyana.

Lauderhill, Aug 11 (Ians) After losing the first two T20I matches to the West Indies, India kept the five-game series alive with a resounding seven-wicket win in the third game, thanks to superlative efforts from vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.
Now with the series action shifting to Lauderhill in Florida, USA, for the last two matches, India will be hoping that other batters step up to make significant contributions in the fourth T20I happening on Saturday.
West Indies are still leading the series 2-1, owing to India’s batting barring Varma not coming to the party. Though Suryakumar got back his groove in the third T20I, India would require the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, captain Hardik Pandya and the rest of the lower-order batters to step up and play a huge role in run-making.

Georgetown (Guyana), Aug 5 (Ians) After losing the T20I series narrowly by four runs to the West Indies in Trinidad, India will be aiming to put up a better show in the batting department when they face West Indies in the second T20I at the Providence Stadium here on Sunday.
The pitch was slow and not easy to bat at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad, but young left-handed batter Tilak Varma shone brightly on debut. After scintillating performances in Ipl 2022 and 2023 as well as in domestic cricket took him to the national team, Varma slammed two beautiful sixes on facing his first three balls in international cricket.
With the likes of Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson all struggling to get going in the opening T20I, Varma showed fearlessness of youth and looked at ease during his 22-ball 39, providing a good...

Tarouba, Aug 2 (Ians) West Indies captain Shai Hope expressed his team’s inconsistency after suffering a 1-2 series loss against India and said while his side has the potential to showcase top-tier performance on some occasions, they also encounter crushing defeats on other days.
India amassed a big total of 351/5 from their 50 overs in the third Odi. However, the West Indies folded for 151, resulting in a massive 200-run victory for India. With the thumping defeat in the decider, the hosts failed to break India’s 17-year unbeaten series win streak against them.
Speaking after the match, Shai Hope stated that they restricted the opposition to a gettable total in the series decider. However, he admitted that they didn’t pose a challenge with the ball at the start.
“Hindsight is the best sight as I keep saying. We saw how the wicket was in the back end and I thought we restricted them well enough.

New Delhi, Aug 2 (Ians) India’s batting unit impressed collectively, helping the visitors to a huge 200-run win over the West Indies in the 3rd and series-deciding Odi at Trinidad on Tuesday.
The openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill put on 143 in only 19.4 overs before stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson helped India set the hosts a challenging 352-run target.
Thereafter, the West Indies struggled to find any momentum, and paceman Shardul Thakur took 4/37 in 6.3 overs as Shai Hope’s side were bowled out for only 151 in 35.3 overs. The other pace bowler Mukesh Kumar returned with figures of 3/30 while spinner Kuldeep Yadav took 2/25.
JioCinema expert Aakash Chopra was impressed with Thakur’s performance, saying: “In the previous match itself, Shardul took three wickets. He gets very limited credit for the way he bowls. I am trying to figure out how he takes so many wickets and why he is expensive,...

New Delhi, Aug 1 (Ians) After Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were “rested” for the last two ODIs against West Indies, the fans expressed their displeasure and slammed the Bcci and the team management for their “bizarre” decisions.
Netizens raised questions, asking the Indian board and coach on why Rohit and Kohli were named in the Odi series when they are getting rested. “They should have picked another team then.”
However, one user said that the Bcci was under pressure from broadcasters to put Kohli and Rohit in the team. “Arre… broadcasters promo me kya daalenge fir.. Ad walon ko kaise convince karenge.”
“Interestingly, we have the Icc Odi World Cup this year and our main players are getting rested before that and not playing ODIs. Wow, Rahuld Dravid what’s happening.
“It made no sense to carry Rohit or Virat for the Odi series if they were not going to play.

Bridgetown (Barbados), July 30 (Ians) A disciplined bowling effort led by three-fers from Gudakesh Motie (3/36) and Romario Shepherd (3/37), followed by a fine half-century from Shai Hope (63 not out) helped West Indies draw level the three-match series 1-1 with a convincing six-wicket win over India in the second Odi, here on Saturday.
Opener Ishan Kishan (55) struck his second successive half-century but India failed to capitalise on a good start on a difficult pitch that offered variable bounce to be all out for 181 in 40.5 overs.
In reply, West Indies chased down the target in 36.4 overs with six wickets in hand, courtesy of a steady 91 not out stand between Hope and Keacy Carty (48 not out). This was West Indies first Odi win against India in last ten matches

Bridgetown (Barbados), July 29 (Ians) Ishan Kishan (55) struck his second successive half-century but India failed to capitalise on a good start on a difficult pitch that offered variable bounce to be all out for 181 in 40.5 overs in the second Odi against West Indies here on Saturday.
In a match that was twice interrupted by rain but did not lose any overs, India made a hash of things after the visitors were off to a good start thanks to opener Ishan Kishan, who struck a run-a-ball 55, his second after the 52 in the first match that India won.
Kishan and Shubman Gill raised 90 runs for the opening wicket but the West Indies capitalised on the juice offered by the wicket that was slow but offered bounce too. Bridgetown (Barbados), July 29 (Ians) Play resumed on Saturday after a 30-minute rain interruption during the second Odi between India and West Indies at Kensington Oval, here. However, no overs were lost because of the interruption.
The rain came pouring down at the midway stage of India’s innings after the visitors were off to a good start thanks to opener Ishan Kishan, who struck a half-century.
But disaster struck India just before the rain interruption when the visitors lost two wickets off successive deliveries, slumping to 113/5 in the 25th over.
Stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya (7), leading the side as Rohit Sharma and senior batter Virat Kohli have been rested, tried to pull a bouncer around shoulder height from Jayden Seales but got it straight to Brandon King at midwicket. Bridgetown (Barbados), July 29 (Ians) West Indies skipper Shai Hope won the toss and elected to bowl first against India in the second Odi at Kensington Oval, here on Saturday.
Hardik Pandya, who was leading the side as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been rested, said Axar Patel and Sanju Samson come into playing eleven as India look to add to their victory in the opening Odi.

“The way we bowled (in the first Odi) was impressive. The way we caught was great, it changed the momentum. Our energy and finishing the game without losing as many wickets have been great,” Pandya said.
West Indies also made two changes, bringing in Alzarri Joseph and Keacy Carty coming in place of Rovman Powell and Oshane Thomas.

Bridgetown, July 28 (Ians) During their five-wicket win over West Indies in the Odi series opener at Kensington Oval, India rejigged their batting line-up in a bid to experiment ahead of the World Cup in a modest chase of 115. That experiment saw Virat Kohli not batting at all, with Shardul Thakur batting at six while captain Rohit Sharma chose to come at seven.
For India, apart from presenting them a chance to seal the Odi series, it is also another opportunity for them to experiment from the second Odi at the same venue yet again and see where various players stand in the lead-up to the mega event.

Bridgetown, July 28 (Ians) After beating West Indies by five wickets in a one-sided Odi series opener at Kensington Oval, India captain Rohit Sharma revealed that the reason behind rejigging the batting order in a chase of 115 was to give time to the players who haven’t played much in the last few weeks.
“We said that we wanted to give a chance to the guys. Never thought we’d lose five wickets but it was a good chance to give a chance to a lot of the guys who have just come in. I thought restricting them to 115 got us in a commanding position that we needed so we thought we could give those guys a chance who haven’t played a lot in the last few weeks,” said Rohit in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Kuldeep, brought into the attack from 17th over, took 4-6 while Jadeja set the base for the West Indies collapse with 3-37. The duo spun a vicious web of spin wizardry to bowl out West Indies for their second lowest Odi total — 114 in 23 overs — against India.

Bridgetown, July 27 (Ians) Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan made his promotion to opening count by top-scoring with 52 as India beat West Indies by five wickets in a one-sided first Odi of the three-match series at Kensington Oval, here on Thursday.
After spinners Kuldeep Yadav (4-6) and Ravindra Jadeja (3-37) combined to take seven wickets between themselves to bundle out West Indies for a paltry 114, Kishan opened the batting and took on the bowlers hit seven fours and a six in his 46-ball 52 as India rejigged their batting order.
Captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli sat back as everyone else were given a go with the bat. Rohit did have to come out at number seven to finish off the chase with 160 balls to spare as India got their ninth consecutive win over West Indies.

Bridgetown, July 27 (Ians) Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja combined to take seven wickets between themselves as India bowled out West Indies for a paltry 114 in just 23 overs in the first Odi of the three-match series at Kensington Oval, here on Thursday.
Right from winning the toss and electing to bowl first on a pitch giving assistance to bowlers, things went all right for India.
Kuldeep, brought into the attack from the 17th over, spun a vicious web to take four wickets for just six runs in three overs to lead the charge in bowling out West Indies for their second lowest Odi total against India.
Jadeja, on the other hand, set the base for the West Indies collapse by picking three wickets for 37 runs. All rounders Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur and debutant seamer Mukesh Kumar took a scalp each as fielders took excellent catches in an excellent all-round performance for India.

Mukesh, the right-arm quick, who made his Test debut against West Indies in Port-of-Spain last week, has now received his maiden cap to become the 251st player for India in the 50-over format.
He will be a part of the four-man fast-bowling attack for India, with Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav being two spin options as the visitors begin to finetune their combination for the upcoming Odi World Cup, to be held at home from October 5 to November 19.
“No particular reason (behind bowling first). We are gonna try a few different things. We want to head into the World Cup with a clear mindset. For us, the results are also important.

Bridgetown, July 26 (Ians) With just over two months left for the Men’s Odi World Cup to start, India will be aiming to restart and fine-tune their preparation for the marquee tournament when they face West Indies in the series opener starting on Thursday.
With many regulars of the Indian team still on the road to recovery from injuries of various kind, the series against the West Indies presents a chance for the likes of Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Umran Malik to strengthen their case for playing a home Odi World Cup.
With Shreyas Iyer out, Suryakumar Yadav is likely to be given a chance for batting at number four despite recording a hat-trick of ducks in the ODIs against Australia in March. In the absence of Kl Rahul, who’s on the road to recovery from a right thigh injury, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson will...

St. Johns (Antigua), July 25 (Ians) West Indies have recalled star batter Shimron Hetmyer and fast bowler Oshane Thomas for their upcoming three match Odi series against India, which starts on July 27 at Kensington Oval.
Hetmyer hasn’t featured for the Caribbean side in almost a year, but earns a recall on the back of a solid season in the Indian Premier League with the Rajasthan Royals that netted a total of 299 runs from 13 innings.
If Hetmyer plays, it will be his first match in West Indies colours since he featured in a T20I against New Zealand in August last year and shortly before the talented 26-year-old was left out of his side’s Icc Men’s T20 World Cup campaign in Australia after he missed a departing flight out of the Caribbean.

Harare, July 5 (Ians) Romario Shepherd took a three-fer while Brandon King slammed a century to give West Indies their first win of the Super Six stage in an inconsequential Men’s Odi World Cup Qualifiers match with a seven-wicket win over Oman at the Harare Sports Club, here on Wednesday.
Half-centuries from Shoaib Khan and Suraj Kumar helped Oman reach 221/9 as Shepherd took 3/44 in his ten overs. But King played a composed knock of 100 off 104 balls, laced with 15 fours, and with support from captain Shai Hope’s 63, took West Indies over the line with 62 balls remaining.
Electing to bowl first, West Indies got early rewards as Shepherd and Kyle Mayers dismissed Jatinder Singh and stand-in skipper Aqib Ilyas inside the first ten overs. Ayaan Khan and Kashyap Prajapati rebuilt for Oman, but that came to a halt as the latter was run out by Roston Chase.

Harare, July 1 (Ians) After West Indies failed to qualify for the 2023 Men’s Odi World Cup for the first time since the inception of the tournament after a seven-wicket defeat to Scotland in the ongoing qualifiers tournament at Harare, captain Shai Hope admitted that the team let themselves down in the entire competition.
West Indies, winners of the Men’s Odi World Cup in 1975 and 1979, were bowled out for just 181 in 43.5 overs at the Harare Sports Club before Scotland completed the chase with seven wickets in hand and 39 balls to spare.
“To be honest, there is not one thing I can put my finger on. We let ourselves down in the entire tournament. We have to look at the way we start our innings definitely. We knew it would be challenging (against Scotland bowlers). The toss is always crucial but we need to find a way to counter that early movement,...

Harare, June 18 (Ians) Two-time World Cup winners West Indies managed to secure a 39-run win over the USA in their first Group A match of the 2023 Odi World Cup Qualifiers at the Takashinga Sports Club in Harare on Sunday, despite lower-order batter Gajanand Singh scoring a superb 101 not out off 109 balls and giving a scare to the side from the Caribbean.
West Indies were bowled out for 297 by the USA, with Johnson Charles, Roston Chase and Jason Holder scoring fifties and were well-supported by decent knocks from captain Shai Hope and wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran.
For the USA, Saurabh Netravalkar, Steven Taylor and Kyle Phillip took three wickets to make up a little for main pacer Ali Khan’s absence due to an Icc suspension. However, the USA fielders didn’t step up to complement the bowlers as four chances of taking chances were shelled.

The first West Indies wicket to fall was that of Shai Hope with the score 173/1 in the 35th over. Hope’s opening partner Mayers then notched up a century himself with 105 off 111 balls before falling two deliveries later with the score still on 173.

Bridgetown (Barbados), Aug 18 (Ians) West Indies snapped their nine-match losing streak in ODIs with a comfortable five-wicket win over New Zealand in the first match of the series.
On a pitch assisting the bowlers, left-arm spin all-rounder Akeal Hosein and pacer Alzarri Joseph picked three wickets each to bowl out New Zealand for just 190 in 45.2 overs.
The chase was not straightforward for the West Indies. But Shamarh Brooks made a patient 79 off 91 balls to ensure West Indies had a rare clinical performance in Odi cricket and take a 1-0 lead in three-match series.
Martin Guptill and Finn Allen stitched a 41-run opening stand in eight overs. But once they both fell in quick succession, wickets kept falling at regular intervals for New Zealand, going from 53-2 to 116-5.
If not for the contributions from Mitchell Santner (25) and Michael Bracewell (31) lower down, the score would have been much more lesser for New Zealand,...
