Belanova vocalist Denisse Guerrero vividly remembers how she felt after she performed “Rosa Pastel” with Carla Morrison in Mexico City last November. It was her first time onstage in years, and she wasn’t sure if she’d ever return to performing full-time again.
“I got offstage and it was cathartic,” Guerrero says. “It felt so good both biologically and in my soul. [Singing] es lo mío [is my thing] and making music helps you heal.”

Everything leading up to the release of Kimberly Loaiza’s album X Amor on Thursday seemed to be going great: She broke the Guinness World Record for Spanish-language YouTuber with the most subscriptions, she celebrated her 26th birthday surrounded by her two kids and besties, and she was finally giving her fans her first album.
Both records — the Guinness one and her LP — had been in the making for years, after she built a massive following in Latin America since 2016. On YouTube, she boasts 43.7 million subscribers and almost twice as many followers on TikTok.

Steve Aoki has been a household name for the last two decades, but that hasn’t stopped him from perpetually experimenting — bounding from one sound to the next — and challenging how his music is consumed, understood, and memorialized.
“There’s no one doing what I’m doing,” he tells Rolling Stone when reflecting on HiROQUEST 2: Double Helix, an expansive 23-track album released Friday. The ambitious project simultaneously spans country, latin, and dance — building on Aoki’s early roots while embracing today’s appetite for genre-breaking music. Paris Hilton, Akon,...

TelevisaUnivision powered to its highest third-quarter revenue total in the U.S. to date, up 5% year-over-year, as overall global revenue increased 11% to $1.28 billion.
The Spanish-language media company also touted growth of streaming service ViX to more than 40 million monthly active users and said the direct-to-consumer segment was on track to become profitable in mid-2024.
Q3 advertising revenue was up 11%, to $777 million, which TelevisaUnivision attributed to record-setting sales for the Concacaf Gold Cup soccer tournament and 20th anniversary of tentpole music awards show Premios Juventud, which aired July 20 from Puerto Rico. In the U.S., however, ad sales declined 1% year-over-year.
Subscription and licensing revenue jumped 18%, to $473 million. Growth in both the U.S. and Mexico was driven by ViX’s premium tier, pricing growth on linear subscribers and increased content licensing revenue driven by demand for ViX premium content. (The company does not break out the number of ViX premium subscriptions.

Danna Paola has been in the entertainment business since she was five years old, yet when she sits down with Rolling Stone one afternoon this fall, she’s experiencing one of the most epic peaks in her 20-year-career. Her song “XT4S1S,” which she released in August after a nearly year-long break from music, has been climbing up the charts an racking up million of views. The vibrant track is a rush of Latin pop-rock with an electronic edge, and it marks a new chapter for her — one where...

Colombian singer-songwriter Camilo dominated the announcement of the 2021 Latin Grammy Awards nominations, garnering 10, including nods in all three top categories — album of the year (for “Mis Manos”), record of the year (for “Vida de Rico” and “Amen”) and song of the year (for “Vida de Rico” and “Dios Así Lo Quiso”).
Also faring well with multiple nods were Dominican artist Juan Luis Guerra with six, Spanish rapper C. Tangana with five and Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny with four.
Most of these top-nominated artists have enjoyed multiple trips to the podium in previous years— especially Guerra, a 20-time Latin Grammy winner. C. Tangana and Bad Bunny have won twice before. But with his staggering 10 nominations this year, Camilo comes into the ceremony only ever having won once before, for last year’s best pop song (his acceptance appearance is pictured above).
The 22nd annual show airs on Univision Nov. 18 live at 8 p.

Photo: 'Elite'/Netflix ‘Élite’ is more than a predictable teen drama; it is a murder mystery with a steamy high society twist. Set in Las Encinas, the most exclusive private school in Spain. The story is centered in a space where money means power, and fortunate teenagers have all of it. Furthermore, the lower class is completely foreign territory, and thinking about sharing a room with them is the same as walking on puke. ‘Élite’ follows the life of Samuel Garcia (Itzan Escamilla), a lower-class teenager, who by chance wins a scholarship to Las Encinas, and by the deceitful games of destiny, he finds himself trapped in the middle of a murder investigation. The cast is primarily Spanish actors relatively new to the industry, except for Lu (Danna Paola). Danna Paola has been a famous star since she was a child, starting in children's Novelas, and evolving into a Latin American pop star.

Netflix has (finally!) announced when Elite fans can check back into Las Encinas.
The long-delayed fourth season of the private-school drama will land on the streaming service Friday, June 18.
An episode order has not been revealed, but it is expected to be in line with the previous three seasons, which spanned eight episodes apiece.
The premiere date means fans will have been waiting 15 months between seasons, but the long delay is due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Elite Season 4 production was forced to shut down, but it resumed a few months ago, and with work on the season has now been completed, production on Elite Season 5 has already commenced.
Yes, fans have a lot of Elite to look forward to, but this won't be the same Elite we know and love.

The trials and tribulations of the students at Las Encinas will continue to be charted at Netflix.
The streamer on Thursday officially ordered a fifth season of the Spanish-language drama Elite, well in advance of its Season 4 premiere.
Netflix made the announcement on Twitter, but Deadline revealed that the fifth season will also bring another two new cast members into the fold in Argentinian actress Valentina Zenere (Cable Girls) and Brazilian actor André Lamoglia (Juacas), but no character details were revealed.
Elite typically likes to keep viewers in suspense when new additions are announced due to the nature of the series.
Each season follows a new mystery in a similar vein to Big Little Lies, with the characters being quizzed by the police about the events.
Elite was renewed for Season 4 in May last year, but production was scuppered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with the series finishing filming much later than originally planned.

Isabela Merced's music career may be young, but it's already mighty. After making waves a year ago with the release of her first single "Papi"—which would go on to earn over 5 million streams on Spotify with a music video viewed over 12 million times on YouTube—the Peruvian-American actress has taken her time and made sure her subsequent releases lived up to the hype. First came excellent EP the better half of me in May. (Lead-off track "apocalipsis" is a bona fide bop.) And now, she's upped the ante with her new single "Don't Go," a joint effort with Danna Paola, the Mexican singer and star of Netflix's Elite. Co-written with frequent collaborators...

Spanish drama Elite has been renewed for season 4 at Netflix but with some cast changes at the boarding school series.
The show, which was created and written by Carlos Montero and Darío Madrona, is one of the streamer’s best performing Spanish originals with Netflix noting last year that it had been seen by more than 20M households.
The cast announced the renewal news on social media with a video message (below).
The teen series follows the intrigue at Las Encinas, an exclusive boarding school in Spain. In the third season a number of the protagonists faced their last months at the institute, a stage in which they will have to make decisions that can change their future forever. The season featured love, sex, and friendship as well as jealousy, secrets and the desire for revenge, which threatened to destroy lives that were really just about to begin.
