Serialized fiction app Radish says it has raised $63.2M in Series A funding led by SoftBank Ventures Asia and Korean firm Kakao Page Corp.
The company also announced a new office in Los Angeles amid plans to grow its local team, build new content and adapt its original IP into gaming and TV opportunities.
Radish, which has offices in Seoul, Korea, and New York, says it has seen significant revenue growth since its 2016 launch, and that it has produced more than 6,500 episodes across 30 original series. Genres currently available on the app include romance and paranormal/sci-fi, but growth is planned for the LGBTQ, young adult, horror, mystery and thriller categories.
All ‘Radish Originals’ are produced in TV-style writers’ rooms. Among the veteran soap writers creating content are Marlene McPherson, Janet Iacobuzio, Addie Walsh, Lisa Connor, Leah Laiman, and Jean Passanante, whose credits include Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, All My Children,...

Radish, a short-form serialized fiction platform capitalizing on the shift to mobile reading, today announced the launch of Radish Originals, its first foray into producing in-house serialized stories. To oversee the initiative, Radish brought Sue Johnson on board as Cco and to head its New York office. Johnson formerly served as VP of Programming at ABC Daytime, where she oversaw the soap operas All My Children and One Life to Live, and most recently was at Pocket Gems mobile interactive storytelling app Episode. Additionally, Radish expanded its senior team with the appointments of Filippo De Rose as Cmo, Taylor Carlson as Head of Content Strategy, Jonghun Shin as Cto, and Seyoon Kyle Choi as VP of Engineering.
“Radish is rapidly growing and our users are hungry for more diverse content. Sue’s experience in serialized storytelling for both the traditional and mobile entertainment space supports our mission to deliver a...

Secret Lives
Now that was a nice little cliffhanger to end things on. I liked last week’s clips, mostly because it’s moving the story forward and getting Lari closer to being out of the closet. Something tells me those pictures are going to end up on a billboard or something for everyone to see. I’m not down with outing, but I totally get why Tale would take revenge on Lari and I can't say Lari doesn't have it coming. You can’t run around bullying people and not have it come back to bite you. I thought the scenes of Lari and Elias together were cute, especially in the photo booth. Still I find the acting on this show by the show's younger cast to be awkward and stilted. They clearly don’t have much experience and it shows.

Good Times, Bad Times
I get where the show is going with this. They are setting it up for Lucas to finally move on with his life after Edwin’s death and eventually find a new love. But it seems like these scenes should have played out months ago, given that Edwin died early this year. Oh well, at least it’s finally happening. I’d like to see Lucas in a new relationship — though judging by the spoilers I’ve seen about Lucas’ possible new romance, maybe I might want Lucas to grieve a little bit longer. But we’ll discuss that in a future column. For now, let’s stick with the events of this week’s show.
I think, for me, the highlight — even if I think the story arc is flawed — were the relationships between the characters. The banter between Lucas...

Hollyoaks
I’ve loved a lot of gay characters over the years and Brendan Brady is probably one of my favorites. Because of his dark history and edgy style he’s unique among gay soap characters in just about every respect, and I like that the show takes chances with this bad boy. And it goes without saying that actor Emmett Scanlan is brilliant in the role. But I haven’t been happy with the way he’s been written for the past several months, mostly because it’s the same material we’ve already been through with Brendan, giving the character little chance for growth and leaving the continuing impression the show isn’t sure how to write for him.
I had hoped we might see something fresh for this character when Ash decided to do a thesis on Brendan. It looked as if the...

There’s another mass exodus underway at Days of Our Lives: According to reports, the NBC soap has axed four castmembers.
Per Soap Opera Digest (which first broke the news), Days staples Matthew Ashford (Jack), Patrick Muldoon (Austin) and Christie Clark (Carrie), as well as three-time Daytime Emmy winner Sarah Brown (Madison), have been handed pink slips.
The cast cuts come on the heels of last week’s backstage shakeup, which found head writers Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas Jr. ousted in favor of former Days scribes Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell. All My Children‘s Lorraine Broderick...

More shakeup on Days of Our Lives: The NBC soap has officially announced that it has hired the Emmy-winning duo of Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell to serve as their newest head writers, effective immediately.
The duo replaces Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas Jr., who were brought on in May 2011 to help relaunch the aging sudser by bringing back veteran stars like Drake Hogestyn, Deidre Hall, Patrick Muldoon, Christie Clark and Matthew Ashford. Ratings, however, did not improve: Dool is tied with The Bold and the Beautiful as the least-watched serial in daytime among women 18-49 (a 1.1 rating...

Fringe‘s annually far-out 19th episode is right around the corner, and we got our hands on a freaky new promo touting the much-anticipated hour.
As previously reported by TVLine, Lost‘s Henry Ian Cusick and Aussie blonde Georgina Haig guest-star in the installment as FBI agents (the latter of which has been ID’d in pap pics as “Young Olivia”), though Joshua Jackson shares scenes with neither (for reasons he would not share). Blair Brown has also teased the introduction of “another Nina,” while John Noble tells us he got to...

EastEnders
I’m glad Amira has finally gotten the message, given up on Syed and left town. Given that Syed cheated on her for over a year with Christian, ended their marriage to be with Christian and wanted nothing more than to be with Christian after Christian dumped him late last year, it’s pretty clear that he’s just not that into her. I just hope she doesn’t give him a hard time about finally getting a divorce and lets him see his daughter regularly without a hassle. Her character has worn out her welcome, and it’s time to move on. I will miss scenes of Christian and Amira being bitchy to each other though. That was always fun to watch.
As for Zainab finally confessing that she purposefully sent Yusef to his death, which led to Tamwar being seriously burned, it was a moment long in coming.
