“Survivor” debuted on CBS as a summer program on May 31, 2000. Hosted by Jeff Probst since the very beginning, it is credited by many as starting the reality show craze that has been a major part of TV this century. After being on the air for two decades, 20 of the most iconic champions returned in Season 40’s “Winners at War” to compete in the first-ever all-winners season. Following a temporary delay due to Covid-19, the reality TV show continued with even more twists and turns, plus more diversity amongst its cast members. Tour our updated “Survivor” winners list above (or click here for direct access) that highlights everyone from Season 1’s Richard Hatch to the most recent.

Survivor 50 rumors have already begun, thanks to Jeff Probst’s huge announcement.
A Survivor winner has also already teased his involvement and the inclusion of three additional former winners.
In case anyone hasn’t heard, Jeff helped host a new Survivor FYC event in California. It allowed fans to hear more about the show, play games based on challenges from Survivor, and spend time with other people who love the reality competition show.
Future seasons became a topic of conversation when Jeff was talking to the crowd. That’s when he started dropping teasers about what’s to come.
Survivor 46 episodes are still arriving this May on CBS, so several more seasons must debut before the show’s milestone 50th season.
Jeff Probst revealed Survivor 50 will feature returners, which got the crowd buzzing. That was also the case when a Survivor legend teased they were returning.

CBS’s Survivor 45 brings 18 new castaways to Fiji, and they’ll begin their journey in three teams of six. The cast members will have to navigate complex social situations and demanding challenges to keep their torch lit at Tribal Council. According to Survivor 45 spoilers, a new twist might extend the length of every Tribal Council this season.
[Spoiler alert: Potential Survivor 45 spoilers ahead regarding a new twist.]
‘Survivor 45’ might have a new twist that affects Tribal Council
Survivor 45 Tribal Councils might look a lot different this season, according to spoilers. Past seasons occasionally featured a reward that would allow a player from a winning tribe to attend the losing tribe’s Tribal Council. The winning player could then return to their tribe and report on everything they witnessed — or they could keep some of that information private. According to spoiler gurus, that one-time perk may become a permanent twist in season 45.

As the actors’ and writers’ strikes against Hollywood studios grind on in the summer’s heat, there’s more time for famous actors, writers (Chuck Lorre) and reality stars (who are not striking anything) to hit the party scene from Hollywood to New York to the Napa Valley, helping raise money for good causes and have some fun along the way.

For many contestants, Survivor is the ultimate in reality television. The series pushes participants to the edge of their limits, both mentally and physically, until only a single winner stands. While the series has been on the air for more than two decades, it remains an important part of pop culture – and for those who have competed on Survivor, it is an experience unlike any other. Over the years, many contestants have spoken out about their time on the show, revealing what they would have changed and what their big takeaways were. Recently, three-time contestant Ethan Zohn sat down for an interview on The Sarah Fraser Show podcast, talking about his experience on Survivor and what his biggest regret is.

For 44 seasons, fans and followers of Survivor have enthusiastically been tuning into one of television’s longest-running and most popular reality TV series. The contestants, twists, and challenges are always evolving, but the show’s beloved host, Jeff Probst, has been a constant.
Being with Survivor since the CBS series 2000 premiere, Probst’s inside knowledge and perspective are seemingly limitless. This was evident on the well-known television host’s podcast, On Fire with Jeff Probst: The Official Survivor Podcast. Listeners got to take a trip down memory lane and revisit one of the first “twists” on Survivor.
A look back at the very first ‘Survivor’ twist
On a recent podcast episode, the host discussed everything from the aesthetic journey of idols to what it takes to create Survivor adrenaline-inducing challenges. Of course, the controversial season 44 tribe swap was one of the topics of conversation as well.

The reality TV show Survivor has been going strong for over two decades. Early on in the series, Ethan Zohn won the third season, Survivor: Africa. He’s still a big fan of the show, but he thinks some things were better in the past. He believes that today’s Survivor simply doesn’t have enough emphasis on actually surviving.

Survivor favorite Parvati Shallow almost didn’t appear on the CBS show because she nearly got cast for The Real World or Road Rules a few years beforehand. Had she made the MTV series, Parvati probably would have gone on to compete in The Challenge instead.
Parvati Shallow shared a rejection letter from ‘The Real World’
A few years before making her debut on Survivor: Cook Islands, favorite Parvati Shallow nearly got cast for The Real World: Paris or Road Rules: South Pacific.
In a March 2023 Instagram photo, she shared a picture of the 2003 rejection letter she received from Bunim/Murray Productions. It began by congratulating her for making it to the interview stage as part of the top 250 applicants from the over 5,000 submissions they received.
She's got charm and she knows how to persuade. Parvati is back and @JeffProbst believes she's going to be a weapon in this game!

Exclusive: Deadliest Catch and Ice Road Truckers creator Thom Beers is planting his latest seed in TV ground with a reality series about CBD.
Beers is producing Kings of Kush for Vice TV.
The series, which launches on the cable network on March 2, follows Anthony “Sully” Sullivan, a celebrity TV pitchman best known as the OxiClean guy, as he launches a new hemp farming venture.
Sully took a departure from his 30-year career in selling products on TV when his daughter was born with a rare genetic disorder and needed an alternative to prescription medication. After witnessing the benefits of CBD, he started a 116-acre organic hemp farm and enlisted his friend and TV adventure racer Dave Christian to help, although neither of them knew anything about farming.
Despite this, they built Montkush Farms in Vermont and let Beers, who founded Original Productions and previously ran FremantleMedia North America, and his team film it.

Three weeks ago, “Survivor” host Jeff Probst dubbed the just-ended “Winners at War” as “The G.S.O.S.O.A.T.” — in other words, “The greatest season of ‘Survivor’ of all time.” What with 20 former champs competing against one another, he told Entertainment Weekly, “They are absolutely killing it. Game-play at a level we have never seen before.”
But after the finale last Wednesday when Tony Vlachos was crowned as the Sole Survivor, we asked whether you agreed with Jeff that Season 40 — aka “the season on steroids” — was the ultimate in outwitting, outplaying and outlasting as the reality competition’s longtime motto states.

(Warning: This post contains major spoilers for the Season 40 finale of “Survivor.”)
The 40th season of “Survivor,” a.k.a. “Survivor: Winners at War,” came to a close with a supersized finale on Wednesday that saw one competitor walk away with a $2 million check and become the long-running CBS competition’s newest two-time “Sole Survivor. “
Tony Vlachos was the player with the honor of winning “Winners at War,” having previously been crowned the champion of Season 28, “Survivor: Cagayan.”
“Survivor: Winners at War” featured 20 legendary winners from the first 39 seasons of “Survivor” returning to compete against each other in the 20th anniversary edition of the competition. These winners included Vlachos, Natalie Anderson, Tyson Apostol, Danni Boatwright, Sophie Georgina Clarke, Jeremy Collins, Sandra Diaz-Twine, Ben Driebergen, Michele Fitzgerald, Wendell Holland, Adam Klein, Yul Kwon, Sarah Lacina, Amber Mariano, “Boston” Rob Mariano, Parvati Shallow, Kim Spradlin-Wolfe, Denise Stapley, Nick Wilson and Ethan Zohn.

It seems like only yesterday the 20 returning “Survivor” champions returned for an epic clash in “Winners at War,” but now we’ve already reached the Season 40 finale. Heading into Wednesday’s three-hour event, only five castaways remained in the running to win the $2 million prize: Ben Driebergen, Denise Stapley, Michele Fitzgerald, Sarah Lacina and Tony Vlachos. But there were 14 players living on the Edge of Extinction who were itching for their chance to return to the game: Natalie Anderson, Amber Mariano, Danni Boatwright, Ethan Zohn, Rob Mariano, Parvati Shallow, Yul Kwon, Wendell Holland, Adam Klein, Tyson Apostol, Sophie Clarke, Kim Spradlin-Wolfe, Jeremy Collins and Nick Wilson. The 20th contestant, Sandra Diaz-Twine, quit after being voted out on Day 16.

Most “Survivor” devotees are betting on Tony Vlachos to claim the title of Sole Survivor on the 40th season of the CBS show, “Winners at War.” The biggest argument made for predicting his ultimate victory on the three-hour finale this Wednesday, May 13? He is the only one of the 20 previous champs competing on this so-called “season on steroids” whose name has never been written down during a Tribal Council. He might be twitchy as an itchy squirrel sometimes, but he has shown off both his leadership skills, his physical prowess and endurance and even his social game.
That is why an overwhelming 62% voted in our Gold Derby poll for Tony to win it all and become just the second winner to win “Survivor” twice since Sandra Diaz-Twine, who left the season early after being blindsided with her own immunity idol and quit once she got to the Edge of Extinction.

The rules are simple. If you find fire tokens on the Edge of Extinction, you can buy advantages in the all-important “Survivor” return challenge. Unfortunately for Yul Kwon, he was the only voted-out player who didn’t get the opportunity to acquire any island currency, and people are understandably bummed. (Read our episode recap here.)
As this is the first season ever to incorporate fire tokens, there are obviously kinks in the system that need to be worked out for future installments. Notably, why does making it further in the game, as Yul did, essentially punish him from earning an advantage in the return challenge? Just last week there was a fire token goose chase in which four wooden coins were hidden up on the cliff. That meant double eliminees Parvati Shallow and Sandra Diaz-Twine (had she not quit) had a golden opportunity to find fire tokens alongside the people...

“I’m captive right now, but I’m plotting a way to escape this wretched prison that they call the Edge of Extinction,” declared Wendell Holland just moments after his elimination from “Survivor: Winners at War.” This former winner of “Survivor: Ghost Island” was voted out of the newly merged Koru tribe by a 9-3 vote over Adam Klein. “Once I get out of here I’m gonna do what I need to do,” Wendell promised in his end-of-show exit interview. “The war is not over.”
Everybody except for Michele Fitzgerald (Wendell’s former girlfriend) and Nick Wilson (Wendell’s second in command) voted to send him packing. The other nine castaways saw Wendell as a strategic threat, particularly when it came to his close bond with Jeremy Collins … who nonetheless wrote Wendell’s name down when he didn’t get his way to oust Nick.

“Drop your buffs!” That’s right, Wednesday night was the highly anticipated merge episode of “Survivor: Winners at War.” Eleven castaways made it to this all-important juncture in the game: Sophie Clarke, Jeremy Collins, Ben Driebergen, Michele Fitzgerald, Wendell Holland, Adam Klein, Sarah Lacina, Kim Spradlin-Wolfe, Denise Stapley, Tony Vlachos and Nick Wilson. However, they would soon be joined by one of the voted-out players from the Edge of Extinction. After all was said and done, who became the first castaway from the merged tribe to have their torch snuffed by Jeff Probst?

The highly anticipated “Survivor” return challenge is coming up soon, which means one of the inhabitants at the Edge of Extinction is about to re-enter the game for a shot at winning the $2 million prize. With Sandra Diaz-Twine calling it quits last week, there are currently eight voted-out castaways living on Extinction Island: Natalie Anderson, Amber Mariano, Danni Boatwright, Ethan Zohn, Tyson Apostol, Rob Mariano, Parvati Shallow and Yul Kwon. However, thanks to Season 40’s new fire token twist, both Boston Rob and Natalie might have an edge — pardon the pun — in the return challenge because of their growing piggy banks.

After winning “Survivor: Africa” and competing in “Survivor: All-Stars,” fan favorite contestant Ethan Zohn had to step away from the game for 16 years because of his cancer diagnosis. Now in remission, Ethan finally returned to the game in “Survivor: Winners at War” … only to be voted out in the third episode. Ethan joined his fellow voted-off castaways at the Edge of Extinction, where he now has a renewed appreciation for the battle ahead. “I want to get back in the game — it’s not out of the question,” he declares in CBS’s latest preview trailer (watch above). Episode 7 of Season 40 airs Wednesday, March 25.

Sandra Diaz-Twine was just voted out of “Survivor: Winners at War” in the one of the most cutthroat reality TV blindsides of all time. After a confident Sandra gave her hidden immunity idol to Denise Stapley in exchange for her fire tokens, Denise ended up using the idol to send home the “Survivor” Queen. “And now the question will be, how much gas does Sandra have in her tank?” host Jeff Probst wonders in his weekly recap video (watch above). “Does she want to fight to get back in?” he asks aloud. After six episodes of “Survivor: Winners at War,” two castaways are tied with a leading four fire tokens apiece: Michele Fitzgerald and Natalie Anderson. (See the updated list of “Survivor” advantages.) These wooden coins can be used to purchase things like food, comfort and advantages, as seen this week when Tyson Apostol bought peanut butter with his newly acquired fire token. Michele and Natalie are now essentially billionaires in the game of “Survivor,” which makes them huge targets going forward.

Since its debut in 2000, “Survivor” has always been an hour-long show (outside of its extended finales). But take a look at the reality TV landscape of 2020 and you’ll see that one hour just isn’t enough. Shows like “The Bachelor,” “Dancing with the Stars,” “American Idol,” “America’s Got Talent” and “The Voice” air in two-hour blocks, while “RuPaul’s Drag Race” is a 90-minute program with a 30-minute “Untucked” after-show. Should CBS rethink its “Survivor” strategy and start airing longer episodes each week? Vote in our poll below.

Rob Mariano may be one of the most well-known “Survivor” players of all time, but that wasn’t enough to save him from an early exit on “Winners at War.” As Gold Derby predicted, Boston Rob became the sixth person voted out of Season 40 during Wednesday’s tribe swap episode after he found himself on the new Yara beach with two former enemies (Ben Driebergen and Adam Klein) and two complete strangers (Sarah Lacina and Sophie Clarke). After having his torch snuffed, Rob bequeathed his two fire tokens to his best buddy Parvati Shallow, bumping her up to four total. That number now ties her with Natalie Anderson, making Parvati and Natalie the richest players in the game.

I never thought I would write this sentence about “Survivor: Winners at War,” but the action on the Edge of Extinction was far more compelling than what was happening on the mainland this week. When this limbo land where voted-out castaways could get a second chance to return to the game was first introduced on Season 38, there wasn’t much going on save for some lame clues to finding advantages on the barren island. About the most interesting thing was when Reem Daly, the first resident to wash up on the shore, would berate the newly arrived contestants who had voted her out previously like some kind of sea witch.
Even more distressing to longtime fans was the fact that the winner of that season, Chris Underwood, was the third player to be voted out. Because of the twist, however, he managed to rejoin the action, participate in the finale...

After three episodes and four tribal councils on “Survivor: Winners at War,” the 40th season in 20 years of the landmark reality TV competition series, the Dakal tribe has established itself as the dominant tribe, forcing the opposing Sele tribe to vote out three players while only having to sacrifice one of their own (Amber Mariano). “Survivor: Winners at War” sees 20 winners of the game return to duke it out. It’s the greatest crop of contenders the show has every seen. And in my “Battlelines” recap each week I will diagnose its casualty and declare both who I think won the episode’s battle and who is best positioned to win the war. Please feel free to give your thoughts in the comments below.
Casualty
Ethan Zohn: ‘Out of Africa’ and out of the tribe
The biggest delight of this season was the return of “Survivor: Africa” winner Ethan Zohn. He won the game longer ago than any returning player – 18 years (37 seasons). Since then he has been a survivor in the truest sense of the world. He returns to the game after a hard-fought battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Seeing Ethan play the game again with humor, fun and positivity was such a joy.
