IMDb TV has announced that it has picked up a second season of “Almost Paradise,” the American-Filipino crime drama series starring Christian Kane.
Originally a WGN America show, “Almost Paradise” stars Kane as Alex Walker, a U.S. DEA agent who is betrayed by his partner and forced into an early retirement. Walker relocates to the Philippines, where he runs a gift shop in a resort hotel, and slowly gets pulled into the criminal underworld of the island. Samantha Richelle and Arthur Acuña also star. The series is notable for being the first American scripted TV production to shoot entirely in the Philippines.
“Almost Paradise” originally premiered on WGN America in March 30, 2020, before the network rebranded as NewsNation. The series is showrun by Dean Devlin and Gary Rosen, who also executive produce alongside Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson. The first season is currently available to stream for free on IMDb TV.

I’ll admit I have a soft spot for the scarecrow film. Ever since I was terrified by a TV screening of Dark Night of the Scarecrow back in the 80s, I’ve seen just about every scarecrow-related film going – even those that should probably have never seen the light of day! So of course I Had to see Scarecrow. Even moreso given that it’s (yet another) Canadian genre film and it stars Robin Dunne, an actor whose career I’ve followed ever since I saw him in Cruel Intentions 2 (yes, I liked that film – even more than the original).
The film sees school teacher Aaron Harris (Dunne) doling out punishment to six students serving detention,...

SyFy is getting in the Halloween spirit, programming the "original" film Scarecrow on October 5th. Shallow Ground and Kaw director Sheldon Wilson directs while Rick Suvalle (Roadkill, V.I.P.) writes. Lacey Chabert (Lost in Space, Black Christmas) stars.
The synopsis goes like this... For generations, it was an urban legend that lived in the nightmares of children. Now, the season to rejuvenate the tale will revive a town's darkest fears. With the Scarecrow Festival on the horizon, school teacher Aaron Harris is doling out punishment for six students serving detention, including the moody Tyler, Goth girl Nikki, wrestling team captain Daevon, and straight-a student Jun.

In advance of April 23rd, 2011, debut of Syfy Original Film Roadkill, Dread Central had an opportunity to chat with screenwriter Rick Suvalle about his approach to this project and how he managed to make it slightly different than the average Syfy Original entry.
I can tell you from personal experience writing a Syfy Original Film is not easy. You know going in budgets are thin (transparent even), the special effects aren’t going to be very good, and casting is always a game of Russian roulette with four bullets in the cylinder. So, as a writer, you have to try and compensate for all of those hazards up front: use modest locations, limit special effects screen time, and include no complex dialogue or characters which require too much acting muscle. Yet, you still have to deliver the goods and tell a compelling, visually interesting story even though you don’t...

The Irish-filmed 'Roadkill', a new Syfy TV movie, is set to air on the channel stateside on 23 April at 9:00pm. It stars the gorgeous Kacey Barnfield (below), whom we never get tired of featuring here at the Horror Asylum. Kacey is taking her acting career well into the genre, which we like, with already credits in 'Resident Evil: Afterlife' and the upcoming 'Jabberwocky' under her belt. This isn't her first Syfy TV movie either after having appeared topless and in all her naked glory in gator sequel 'Lake Placid 3' last year. British director Johannes Roberts ('When Evil Calls', 'F') helms the project from a script penned by Rick Suvalle. It comes as no surprise that the trailer for Rhi Entertainment's Roadkill would quickly pop up online once Syfy announced the Stephen Rea-starring monster movie's April 23rd premiere date. More surprising is that this Syfy movie about hit & run, gypsy curses, and a giant bird of prey doesn't look too shabby.
Kate and her brother, Joel, have gathered their five best friends for a scenic Rv road trip to their high school reunion. But their cross-country adventure is about to take an unexpected turn for the worst when an ancient curse takes wing by way of a massive creature. It’s called the Simuroc, and this gigantic bird of prey has found the perfect, helpless quarry in Kate and company. Stranded in the backwoods of the predator’s territory, there’s little chance for escape.
I really don't think the title Roadkill suits a movie with a premise like that.

Forest of the Damned and Hellbreeders director Johannes Roberts (pictured above right) has just premiered his latest film F, at this years FrightFest to rapturous applause (and rightly so). And whilst the film went down a storm with attendees, it was news of his next project which peaked my attention…
During the post-film Q&A Roberts announced that he and F actress Eliza Bennett has flown in from Ireland where they are shooting a, and I quote:
Giant bird movie… involving a gypsy curse.
Now, whilst there’s nothing confirmed anywhere, the only giant bird movie that has been announced as entering production is Roadkill, a Syfy channel original movie written by Rick Suvalle (Astroboy), about a group of friends who take a scenic Rv road trip to their high-school reunion. Their cross-country adventure takes a decidedly unexpected turn when an ancient Gypsy curse takes wing by way of a giant flesh-eating bird of prey.
