‘Tis the season for a holiday romance — but Lil Tjay and Fivio Foreign know that there’s nothing more unique than a New York love story. Hailing from the Bronx and Brooklyn, respectively, the two rappers flipped the Wham! holiday classic “Last Christmas” into a drill-driven ode to complicated relationships in the boroughs.
“We was in Brooklyn trap house/Me and shawty spent 3K for the eats (We did)/And he’ll never take her shopping/We already spent 30K for the week (Nah),” Fivio Foreign raps, sizing himself up...

The 66th Grammy nominations are just days away, and one of the most exciting races is Best New Artist, a category that can make or break a career. Usually an amalgamation of some of the biggest genres around, the award typically has a great mix of huge breakouts and hidden gems. But among so many worthy debutantes, which eight will make up the class of 2024?
The biggest lock for a nomination this year is Ice Spice. The Bronx rapper has made waves with her infectious style and collaborations with big artists like Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress, Lil Tjay, and Taylor Swift. Such major collaborations are already a big deal, but Ice has also scored hits on her own, like “In Ha Mood” and “Deli.” Following her victory at the 2023 VMAs for Best New Artist, Ice might continue her hot streak with a Grammy victory, especially with possible support from both rap and pop voters.

Even if you don’t know his name, you know Nineteen85’s sound.
The Grammy-winning Toronto producer has helmed some of Drake’s biggest and most out-of-the-box hits, from the disco-pop haze of “Hold On, We’re Going Home” to the multicultural flex of “One Dance.” He’s also one half of Ovo Sound R&b duo Dvsn, responsible for the soul-wrenching beats behind their many jams. He’s got production credits on Mariah Carey, Future and Travis Scott tracks too.

Come to think of it, by now, you really should know this guy’s name. So Nineteen85 is doing his part to make sure you don’t forget it. He says he’ll soon start releasing songs under his own moniker, a la DJ Khaled or Murda Beatz, made with several artists “all over the board.” Consider it a personal branding exercise.

Lil Tjay, born Tione Jayden Merritt, was arrested Tuesday in New York City during an Instagram live session.
In the session, the 22-year-old rapper was talking to a police officer and telling him not to touch him.
“What’s in the car?” the young rapper asked the officer. “There’s no firearm in the car.”
A few seconds after, the cop told Merritt to turn around, so they could cuff him. The phone appeared to have been taken away from the “Calling My Phone” singer but continued recording as the camera turned to show multiple police officers surrounding him.
People in the background told the rapper, “Don’t fight, T,” and “Set an example, T.”
“TJay, it’s not real!” someone else said.
The live video session suggested that the rapper was arrested for possessing a firearm, but it has been reported that he was also arrested for reckless endangerment.

Rapper Lil Tjay has just been arrested again and it was all documented on Instagram Live. He was arrested for the second time this year on Tuesday, June 6, reports aceshowbiz.com.
On Tuesday afternoon, the 22-year-old turned on his Instagram Live. But instead of greeting his fans, he showed the ordeal to his followers. In the video which has since been reposted online, he’s seen telling cops to “not touch” him and asking why he’s arrested.
“Nah. Do not touch me, bro,” Lil Tjay told officers while standing next to his car.
“What am I under arrest for?” When one of the officers told him to turn around, he responded, “No, n***a. No, bro. Hell no. What’s in the car? I don’t know what’s in the car. Don’t touch me. There’s no firearm in the car.”

It’s been a mere five months since Ice Spice went viral with “Munch (Feeling U),” a coldly efficient putdown of the opposite sex that earned her a million-dollar deal with the label 10K Projects. The Bronx rapper has generated headlines from gossip folks ever since. She was feted by Drake…or is that dissed by him on “BackOutsideBoyz”? She shook her goodies on TikTok in celebration of her 23rd birthday. She inspired a lame “Ice Spice” homage by Memphis rapper Nle Choppa, the cost of doing business in an...

"I want it to sound far from everything… Like everything's upside down." Rlje Films has revealed the first official trailer for Taurus, the latest film from indie filmmaker Tim Sutton. His dry filmmaking style is a rather acquired taste, and definitely not for most people. This premiered at Berlinale and it also played at the Tribeca, Karlovy Vary, and Zurich Film Festivals this year. A beloved but very troubled musician searches for the inspiration to record one last song, pushing himself deep into the void. A work of fiction that explores fame, addiction, the artistic process, and the music industry, Taurus is a soulful and universal cautionary tale. Taurus stars real-life musician Colson Baker (aka Machine Gun Kelly) as Cole, with Maddie Hasson, Demetrius "Lil Meech" Flenory, Megan Fox, Ruby Rose, Scoot McNairy, Lil Tjay, and Naomi Wild. This looks like a raw story about a musician's struggles and self-destructive attitude.

Polo G and Lil Baby hit the streets of Los Angeles in their new music video for “Don’t Play.” The song, off Polo G’s recent album Hall Of Fame 2.0, is accompanied by a video showcasing the rappers’ best Fast and Furious impression, with the pair showing off their slick, fast cars.

Rapper Machine Gun Kelly plays a self-destructive musician in Tim Sutton’s Taurus, premiering in the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival. Going by his real name, Colson Baker, he puts in an authentic turn as his character Cole flits between the studio, his expensive apartment and an array of seedy bars and strip clubs. Adding to a sense of impending doom is a disturbing opening scene involving a child with a loaded gun. The significance of this is later revealed, but it could also be considered a symbol of Cole himself: an immature person who has great power, and an attraction to danger.
Set over a few days, this is an involving portrait of a lonely, angry man who’s seeking solace in drink and drugs, while neglecting many people in his life. Most of these are female. There’s Cole’s young daughter, Rose (Avery Tiiu Essex...

Polo G has brings a couple stacks to the car dealership in the new music video for “Fortnight.”
The Ryan Lynch-directed clip opens with the rapper pulling a few bags of money out of a Louis Vuitton backpack and using it purchase a brand new red Corvette (a scene that’s, of course, followed by a requisite shot of the car’s loud motor revving). From there, the clip captures Polo G performing “Fortnight” in a stately mansion, while it also features some footage of the rapper taking photos with fans.

John Mayer’s Sob Rock comes with an old-fashioned price sticker on the cover, as if it’s an LP from the Eighties, and it launched at Number One on the Rolling Stone Top 200 Albums chart thanks to deluge of old-fashioned sales — more than 56,000 copies, close to 22,000 of which were vinyl. (Due to the higher cost of vinyl, record sales have a higher weight than album downloads in the Rs 200 chart.) Mayer’s first full-length in more than four years also earned nearly 27 million streams and more than 9,000 song downloads.
