Exclusive: Raffi Cavoukian, the famed children’s entertainer and musician, is getting the podcast treatment.
iHeartMedia and parenting site Fatherly have teamed up to produce Finding Raffi.
It marks the second audio series in its Finding strand, following Finding Fred, telling the story of Fred Rogers.
The ten-episode series will explore the legacy and teachings of Cavoukian, the Egypt-born Canadian who is known for kids’ songs such as Baby Beluga and Bananaphone.
Hosted by comedian Chris Garcia, the series will trace his life from aspiring folk singer to international kids’ superstar to outspoken climate activist. Through interviews, music, and storytelling, audiences will learn the complete — and complex — story of Raffi.
Garcia will introduce his daughter to Raffi’s music, and uncovers details about Raffi’s life, his journey to discover his own identity as an immigrant, and his belief that respect for people, planet and culture would yield a better world.

The hottest Twitter feud on the Internet this week is centered around the man who gave the world “Bananaphone.”
Longtime Canadian children’s entertainer Raffi Cavoukian took to the web to issue his distaste with the name of the band the New Pornographers on Tuesday.
Responding to a tweet about the group, Cavoukian wrote, “strongly object to that name. as bad as ‘food p**n’ etc.”
He further explained his issues with the name in response to another user, writing “not a word to normalize in public conversation. consider youngsters, etc.”

Buzzfeed has a preview of the Glee/Archie crossover comic, where half of each group gets zapped into the parallel universe that each gang lives in. Do I see a spark of passion between Veronica and Santana? And exactly what happens when you put Blaine and Kevin Keller together, and which universe rules are we operating under? Is it Archie's purity rules, or Glee's sexytime rules? Because that's important. Oh, and I expect to see some slash with those character pairings.
Speaking of Kevin Keller, on April 18th, he gets his own hardcover young adult novel, Kevin. It will give some back story on the out hunk during his time in middle school, including prom, being a military brat, and a boy who doesn't return his affections.

The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles say “booyakasha” instead of “cowabunga.” The producer of The Smurfs has set his sights on Alf. And, oh yeah, the adorable beluga whale who inspired Raffi’s immortal tune “Baby Beluga” is dead in the water. Is nothing sacred anymore?!
Raffi Cavoukian met Kavna the whale at the Vancouver Aquarium in 1979. He thought she was a “magnificent creature”: “The folks at the aquarium brought me to poolside and the trainer helped me to play with Kavna. Kavna even came out of the water and placed a gentle, graceful kiss on my cheek and...

After experiencing a sudden decline in her health, Kavna, a 46-year-old beluga whale residing at Vancouver Aquarium, died on Monday, with a necropsy later showing cancerous lesions. The whale served as the inspiration for the children's song "Baby Beluga," about an imaginary whale that swims wild and free in the ocean. The song was penned by Canadian artist Raffi Cavoukian after he met Kavna in 1979. "She had a profound impact on me," he told Canadian radio station News 1130. "[Kavna] came out of the water and placed a gentle, graceful kiss on my cheek and I couldn't stop talking about it for a couple of weeks!

Kavna, the beluga whale who was Raffi's inspiration for the popular children's song "Baby Beluga," died this week at the Vancouver Aquarium. She was 46 years old, which is much older than the average beluga whale generally lives.
A preliminary autopsy showed that Kavna likely died of cancer, says aquarium veterinarian Dr. Martin Haulena. Further tests are planned so as to rule out possible causes of death like bacteria and fungi, just in case. Two other beluga whales still live at the aquarium, a mother/daughter tandem named Aurora and Qila.
Singer Raffi Cavoukian famously visited the aquarium in 1979 and was inspired to write his song "Baby Beluga." He tells local Vancouver station 1130, "Kavna even came out of the water and placed a gentle, graceful kiss on my cheek and I couldn't stop talking about it for a couple weeks."
And Raffi tweets, "Kavna & me in1980. in '81 CBC TV did a 30min special: Raffi,...

Not all moviegoers want their movies dripping with heavy-handed moral messages, but when they’re presented as part of the colorful, warm fuzzy goodness of an animated film, somehow said message or moral is easier to swallow. The latest entrant into the animated movie with a message canon is “The Lorax,” Dr. Seuss’ classic story about a young boy who must save endangered trees in hopes of winning a girl's heart.
In celebration of the cute, fluffy friend of trees The Lorax (voiced by Danny DeVito), here are the top five animated movies with an environmental message.
5. "Happy Feet"
Although the plot of this Oscar-winner for Best Animated Feature Film revolves around Mumble the penguin (Elijah Wood) learning to dance to the beat of his own drum, literally, the third act reveals a glaringly obvious message about over fishing in the Arctic and general ocean pollution. The animated penguins are...
