Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are hungry, wolfing down sandwiches at the start of our “Kinds of Kindness” interview. They’re in Cannes to promote the singular three-part anthology film, which has been well-received. They laugh a lot. She’s a Yorgos Lanthimos veteran, and just won her second Oscar embodying the free-spirited Bella Baxter in “Poor Things.” After that, it seems, nothing will faze her and she’ll do anything for her soulmate director. Announced at Cannes: Their next movie to be shot this summer, “Bugonia” (Focus Features), a remake of a Korean thriller, co-starring Plemons.

It's been over a month since "Dune: Part Two" was released in theaters, and it's already a clear-cut success. The film's now passed the $600 million threshold at the box office and the reviews have been consistently positive; not since the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy has such a seemingly-unadaptable book been so successfully adapted to the big screen. Already, "Dune: Part Three" has been confirmed to be in development, adapting the second book in the "Dune" series, "Dune: Messiah," and hopefully wrapping up director Denis Villeneuve's planned trilogy in a nice, satisfying bow.
Already, however, there are a few challenges ahead for the Villeneuve. The first is that "Messiah" begins 12 years after the events of "Dune," which means they'll either have to delay the film a bit to let the actors age into the roles or put a lot of make-up on Timothèe Chalamet to sell the illusion that...

Director Denis Villeneuve is currently developing Dune: Messiah, but it’s also being reported that he’ll adapt the non-fiction book Nuclear War: A Scenario after that.
We heard last month that a sequel to this year’s sci-fi opus Dune: Part Two was greenlit and in the process of being written at Legendary Entertainment. While Dune: Messiah bubbles on the stove, though, it’s being reported that director Denis Villeneuve has another project in the works at Legendary – an adaptation of the book Nuclear War: A Scenario.
A New York Times best seller by Annie Jacobsen, Nuclear War is described by its publisher Penguin as a “edge-of-your-seat thriller” with the author basing her what-if vision of armageddon on interviews with military experts.
Deadline reports that Legendary has bought the rights to the novel, and that Villeneuve is expected to make Nuclear War after he’s finished Dune: Messiah.

The 21st century is when everything changes.
British science fiction has been a lot of things. It was both cheesier and campier than its American counterpart, and yet also darker, grittier, and less afraid to tackle grown-up themes and bleaker outcomes. It had been a joke, and critically acclaimed, and it had all but died off except for some under-the-radar contenders.
And then something major happened: Doctor Who came back. It was always going to happen eventually – just look how many times The Tomorrow People has been remade. But Doctor Who didn’t just come back, it came back and became the biggest show in the country, on purpose.
Suddenly, the people in charge thought that maybe TV shows about ideas, and technology, and realities ahead of and besides our own could draw an audience, only this time they were taking it seriously and spending actual money on it. And...

Denis Villeneuve is definitely interested in making a Dune trilogy but it appears that Warner Bros. may steer away the director from such an idea. According to reports, WB is planning to release the successfully running Dune: Part Two on streaming platforms at least by April 15th. Villeneuve vehemently opposed Dune‘s dual release in theaters and HBO Max in 2020. The new move may not make the director a very happy man.

Denis Villeneuve will proceed with Dune: Messiah only under a specific condition ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia; IMDb )
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dune: Part Two, discusses the potential sequel Messiah. Villeneuve hints that he would only consider moving forward with Messiah, pending approval from Legendary Entertainment, if he believes it can surpass Part Two and deliver a more captivating narrative.
Denis Villeneuve highlighted the logic behind shooting both films consecutively, citing the benefits of maintaining momentum after Part One. However, he acknowledged the toll it took, spending six years continuously on Arrakis. Recognizing the need for a break, Villeneuve emphasized the significance of refining the screenplay before progressing further. He expressed concern about the risks of proceeding without a solid plan and emphasized the importance of thorough documentation to mitigate potential challenges. Should Denis Villeneuve opt to undertake Dune Messiah, he underscores the necessity for authenticity and significance.

Denis Villeneuve has already expressed interest in helming a third movie to continue the story of Paul Atreides in the Dune franchise, and he revealed one condition that will make him do so. With Dune: Part Two already rolling in cinemas, fans were treated to a spectacular show based on the reviews and general reaction of the public.
Dune (2021)
The anticipation for the third film is quite high, but it remains to be seen how the director will forge the path towards the film’s conclusion. Frank Herbert’s novel is too complicated and too “un-adaptable” to bring to the screen, even with Villeneuve’s version.

Denis Villeneuve is making a promise to “Dune” fans: He’s only going to move forward with making a third movie, based on Frank Herbert’s “Dune Messiah” novel, if he knows for a fact it will be better than “Dune: Part Two.” That’s a lofty goal considering what a sensation the sequel has turned out to be. A hit with critics and audiences, Villeneuve’s epic has crossed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office and doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
“I did both movies back-to-back, which makes absolute sense for me,” Villeneuve recently told Empire magazine when the possibility of a third “Dune” came up. “I felt that it was a good idea to move forward right after ‘Part One.’ We were already designing, writing, et cetera. The overwhelming success of Dune: Part Two has definitely put some pressure on Denis Villeneuve to deliver a third film. Villeneuve’s first and second films have left untold a lot of story arcs from Frank Herbert’s novel, which fans believe will be completed in his film based on the second book, Dune: Messiah. Interestingly, the film may not happen anytime soon as the visionary director wants to make sure that one condition is met for this threequel film.

Elon Musk’s former partner Grimes, a singer, songwriter, and record producer, once found similarities in her life to that comparable to the world and characters presented in Frank Herbert’s opus, Dune. Resonance with fictional media is not a one-person affair; most delve into them to find parallels to one’s experiences or the emotions, goals, and characteristics a character becomes emblematic to mirror their own.

However, what has taken some netizens to side-eye Dune super-fan Grimes’ comment in a 2022 interview was the Canadian artist finding her son, X Æ A-12 Musk, analogous to the 1965 novel’s protagonist, Paul Atreides. Well, not through personality traits, per se (she didn’t specify), but through the journey Paul follows within the overarching storyline.
This, of course, holds some intriguing implications when we consider the character’s trajectory in Dune Messiah.

1) Chani is the film’s true hero
It may not have escaped your notice that, by the film’s end, Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) is a far cry from the guileless young lad we met at the beginning of Dune: Part One. After drinking the Water Of Life and finding out more about his true family background, Paul heads down the road marked ‘Dictator’. “Chani is my secret weapon in this story,” Villeneuve says of Paul’s girlfriend and Fremen warrior, played by Zendaya in the film.

When all's said and done, director Denis Villeneuve's sequel will probably make somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5 times as much as the first movie did, which is great news for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. It's also very good news for those who want to see Villeneuve finish his trilogy in a few years, as all signs point to the studios giving a third installment the green light.

Fans of Frank Herbert’s Dune saga agree: The first book is extraordinary — a planet-hopping hero’s journey with compelling characters, riveting action set-pieces, and clear story and character arcs. For all the talk that Dune was impossible to adapt, the core elements to make great cinema have always been in the 1965 book.
But Herbert’s other Dune books? Well …
The remaining books have their fans and detractors, but the general consensus is the saga never comes close to achieving the dramatic heights of the first novel. Dune director Denis Villeneuve himself has said the books become increasingly “esoteric” and therefore he only wants to adapt the next one, Dune Messiah. He is said to be nearly finished with a script for a potential Dune: Part Three. But Messiah is has plenty of challenges, too.

Dune 2 has been a revelation, with critics and fans alike raving about Denis Villeneuve’s vision for Frank Herbert’s novel. The second part of the intended trilogy is a visual masterpiece, no doubt, but is no way lacking in terms of storytelling either. Villeneuve and Jon Spaihts wrote a wonderful screenplay for the movie based on the epic that is Dune, but what many fans might have noticed with after both films, is that it does not follow the novel to the T.
Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Two
Skipping out on many major plot points – like the Mentats and the Spacing Guild, the director’s main focus has been on Paul’s story in Arrakis as well as the Bene Gesserit’s influenece throughout the Imperium. He has also given way more agency to the character of Chani than what she had in the novels.

He has also given way more agency to the character of Chani than what she had in the novels.

The grand-scale Biblical epics that midcentury Hollywood churned out to roaring box-office returns had many drawcards as (so to speak) mass entertainment — brawny action, transporting spectacle, then jaw-dropping effects — but a sense of humor, by and large, wasn’t one of them. That’s something British musician-turned-filmmaker Jeymes Samuel attempts to rectify in his offbeat messiah story “The Book of Clarence,” a newly invented tale that runs parallel to the life and death of Jesus in ways both blithely blasphemous and sincerely Christian. Following on from Samuel’s debut, the rollicking hip-hop western “The Harder They Fall,” with its flagrantly anachronistic remix of genre traditions and a predominantly Black cast, “Clarence” clearly seeks to be the first film loosely of its type to make any pop-cultural impact since Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” nearly 20 years ago.
It’ll certainly prove a hard sell to the U.S.

There is an old joke about a pious man stranded on a desert island. As he prays for divine deliverance, a ship arrives, but he sends it away, saying, “God will save me.” Ditto a helicopter and eventually a seaplane. The man dies, to his surprise, and when he gets to heaven, asks God why he did not save him. God replies, “Look, man, I sent a ship, a helicopter and a seaplane…” If the moral of this old chestnut were hewn from the craggy quarries of a benighted Georgian mining village, and carved in strikingly gorgeous black-and-white cinematography, it might look a little like “Citizen Saint,” Tinatin Kajrishvili’s somber, scabrous third film, in which a rural community refuses to accept a God who moves in anything but the most mysterious ways.

Paul McCartney and John Lennon are rock n’ roll legends, but they never took their talents to the theater. The two were asked many times if they wanted to, but they never showed any interest. McCartney said Lennon “hated musicals” and once walked out of a classic production.

While McCartney and Lennon dominated the charts, the songwriting duo never took their talents to the Broadway stage. In an interview with his website, Paulmccartney.com, the “Michelle” singer said they were often asked if they would write a musical as a pair, similar to Rogers and Hammerstein. A new exposé is laying bare the accusations that have been made against “The Flash” star Ezra Miller.
The Vanity Fair piece titled “Ezra Miller’s ‘Messiah’ Delusions: Inside The Flash Star’s Dark Spiral” alleges that the actor has been linked with “guns, drugs, assaults and grooming”.
The story claims that Miller “emotionally abused those around them, referred to themself as both Jesus and the devil, and wrapped ‘The Flash’, the superhero they play, into their self-perception.”

The “Fantastic Beasts” actor has also been embroiled in a series of other alarming scandals. Miller was arrested twice this year in Hawaii for disorderly conduct on one occasion and harassment on the other.
Back in 2020, a video emerged that appeared to show Miller choking a woman outside of a bar in Iceland.
