Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Box Office (Domestic): Aims At $200 Million Run In The US(Photo Credit – IMDb)
The MonsterVerse movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire continued its monstrous run on its sixth Monday. The film is still grossing solid numbers at the box office. Compared to other MonsterVerse movies, let us see how it performs in the theatres after a month of its release. Keep scrolling for more.
The 2024 movie had the lowest budget in the MonsterVerse franchise. The series began with 2014’s Godzilla, and there are five films, including this one. This is currently the second highest-grossing film in the series and might as well become the highest if things go well for it. It has been receiving positive responses in China and Japan as well. The film might not have impressed the critics so much as the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes only has a 54% score,...

For a full decade now, Warner Bros. and Legendary have been bringing Godzilla and many other classic monsters to the big screen via the MonsterVerse. Beginning with 2014's "Godzilla," this universe has brought Toho's beloved creations — as well as some brand new beasts — to audiences around the world. In stark contrast to 1998's "Godzilla," these Hollywood-produced takes on the long-running franchise have worked like gangbusters as blockbuster crowdpleasers. Five movies (and a TV show) later, the MonsterVerse is showing no signs of slowing down.
While other cinematic universes have come and gone over the years, largely because they bit off more than they could chew, the MonsterVerse has succeeded by being patient and letting audiences be hungry for more. Most recently, "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" proved that moviegoers were happy to show up for a big, ridiculous ride just months after the very serious, Oscar-winning "Godzilla Minus One" left theaters.

With Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire ruling the world, thanks to a huge $194 million box office weekend, the MonsterVerse has never been so mighty. As speculation for a third Godzilla-versus-Kong movie is underway, it is time to talk about the best parts of the kaiju-centered universe: the monster battles.
While Kong had a share of bare-knuckle brawls, Godzilla faced numerous foes, with most of them nearly outmatching the fearsome lizard. It only begs the question: if they can beat Godzilla, can they also beat Kong? Here are five of Godzilla’s enemies that can defeat Kong in a battle:
1. King Ghidorah

The concept of monsters battling each other has been a central theme since the inception of the Godzilla franchise with the release of the very first Godzilla film in the 1950s. This idea of colossal creatures engaged in epic battles to the death continues to be popular, almost 70 years after its birth. The latest film bearing the Godzilla name is Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and it featured a very unique take on Godzilla – the kaiju was pink. Not only that, but some fans have deducted the nationality of every major titan in the film.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire made a giant splash as it hit theaters. Much to the surprise of MonsterVerse fans, the director of the film, Adam Wingard, brought back a seemingly dead character for the finale.
Mothra, like Godzilla, is a kaiju and the only one with any kind of sway over the latter. Therefore, her return in the finale was important, even if it was unanticipated. Moreover, her return highlighted her importance in the MonsterVerse, as stated by the director.

With multiple Godzilla movies and T.V. shows dropping this year, it might be tricky for fans to track them all. Here is a guide that can help! (Picture Credit: IMDb)
On November 3, 2023, Toho Studios released what many consider to be one of the best Godzilla films in recent times — “Godzilla Minus One.” Then, Legendary Pictures came out with their first live-action series featuring the not-so-gentle giant in “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” on November 17, 2023. They had also recently created an animated series based on King Kong called “Skull Island” on June 22, 2023.
With that being said — 2023 was Godzilla’s year, without a doubt! However, there’s a big difference between the Godzilla movies from Toho Studios and Legendary Pictures. Simply put, Toho owns Godzilla. However, Legendary Pictures secured the rights to the giant 500-ft lizard and other monsters in the Kaiju universe in 2014, ultimately coming up with a ‘Hollywood’ version known as the MonsterVerse.

The world is in awe with the recent release of the terrifying yet iconic film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. With the two gigantic monsters teaming up to kill a larger third monster, the movies are often related to the gigantic scales of the sets, monsters, and events.
In Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, a pink Godzilla is seen with a menacing look. Although it is a very cool look, it doesn’t even come close to the most terrifying Godzilla yet! Appearing in films in 2017 and 2018, this Godzilla is also known as “The Planet Eater”!

The human element is an important aspect of any monster feature, as it provides multiple perspectives, adds to the relatability factor, and makes the stakes feel real to the audience. Legendary’s Monsterverse has struggled with finding a compelling human character or story arc since the beginning, which is why almost every movie in the series has completely changed the cast. Most of the time, the narrative focus was either misplaced or simply detached from the creature storyline.
Earlier this year, Apple TV+’s series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters managed to crack the code by presenting a perfect balance between creature features and human elements through Lee Shaw and Keiko Miura’s story arc, which was seen as a positive sign for upcoming installments. However, with the latest entry in the franchise, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, director Adam Wingard has chosen to go in a different direction, putting...

“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is full of surprises. But there’s one very big cameo that has been withheld from marketing materials so far that really needs to be discussed.

This article contains massive Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire ending spoilers.
Adam Wingard grew up on the Shōwa era of Godzilla movies. That would be the period of time when Toho Studios produced monster movies during the reign of Emperor Hirohito—so all the kaiju flicks released between 1954 and 1975. This included ones where Godzilla was a scary emblem of nuclear radiation, sure, but more often than not, the Big G spent these decades as a glorified superhero who hung out with pals like Mothra or Anguirus on Monster Island.
“Those were the movies that were playing on daytime television when I was a kid,” Wingard says when he sits down with Den of Geek ahead of the film’s opening weekend. “So that’s where my inspiration from Godzilla really originates.” He even recalls a vivid childhood memory of watching Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974) where the evil, robotic Zilla impersonates...

While plans to further TriStar’s Godzilla franchise on the big screen fell through, the animated sequel turned out to be a great alternative. Godzilla: The Series debuted mere months after the 1998 film was released, and it went on to become a popular part of Fox Kids’ Saturday morning programming. And although this continuation had a limited lifespan of just two seasons, it still managed to do the impossible and redeem Roland Emmerich’s widely disliked adaptation.
Similar to Ultra Q, Godzilla: The Series saw Dr. Niko “Nick” Tatopoulos leading a specialized team — Humanitarian Environmental Analysis Team, or H.E.A.T. for short — in the struggle against the giant and disruptive creatures (often referred to as “mutants”) who have begun to appear all across the globe. Aiding them was the lone, surviving offspring of Godzilla teased at the end of the film. And to ensure the juvenile Godzilla stood...

Spoilers for "Godzilla x Kong" to follow.
The MonsterVerse movies not only have a consistent naming approach (which makes it easier to determine the order in which to watch them) but its titles are also inspired by those of the Toho "Godzilla" films. You have "King of the Monsters," which is the 1956 localized title of the original "Godzilla" film. You have a "vs." title inspired by many of the Showa era "Godzilla" movies with "Godzilla vs. Kong," and of course, the first movie is simply known as "Godzilla."
Then there's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," the new '80s buddy-cop-inspired MonsterVerse film. The "x" in the title is a weird choice, one that is open to various different interpretations. It could be a romantic thing. It could mean Godzilla "by" Kong or Godzilla "times" Kong. Anime fans, on the other hand, know that the inclusion of the letter "x...

Godzilla has defeated giant spiders, giant lobsters, giant robots, giant dinosaurs, giant space dragons, giant plant monsters, giant beetles, and of course, giant monkeys. But recently, the King of the Monsters conquered a foe that many thought him incapable of taking on: the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
With “Godzilla Minus One,” Toho’s iconic kaiju (or giant monster) franchise “Godzilla” earned its first Academy Award, receiving the Oscar for Best Visual Effects after wowing audiences with its impressive CGI re-creation of cinema’s most iconic movie monster. It became the first Japanese production to win the award, bookending a successful season for the film, which broke through in America in a major way. After years of the franchise’s Japanese films reaching relatively niche U.S. audiences, “Godzilla Minus One” grossed $110 million worldwide and attracted critical acclaim, bringing the franchise new fans and newfound recognition.

The MonsterVerse franchise is an underrated contender in the cinematic universe wars, with a clear watching order that avoids confusion or an overwhelming number of entries. Part of the success of the franchise is that the continuity and canon are not overly complicated — well, it is a franchise about giant monsters punching each other in the face, after all.
After doing what all big cinematic universes do and expanding to TV — albeit with a really good show in this case, the MonsterVerse is back on the big screen with "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire." The movie is set to not only bring the King of the Monsters and the Eighth Wonder of the World together once again but also bring a bit of a buddy-cop vibe to the MonsterVerse.

There is a twist with the latest offering from the now-decade-old Monsterverse, a franchise that has featured Kong and Godzilla in their own movies and then in 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong battling each other to the death. (These monsters never really die. But you knew that). The twist this time is there an even greater threat for these iconic giant creatures to each other and the world, so instead of being on opposite sides of the ring, they team up against an evil new villain, a batshit-crazy ape on steroids named Skar King, in order to save not just Hollow Earth — where most of the action takes place in a dense rainforest — but just about everyone else.

Watching “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” I realized that the movie, a standard overly busy and mediocre blockbuster with a pretty awesome wow of a clash-of-the-titans climax, was demonstrating one of the essential principles of Hollywood movie culture today. Namely: All blockbuster movies are now connected!
Kong, living in the Hollow Earth, where most of the film is set, is supposedly the last of his kind, but he discovers a child ape who actually looks like an homage to the cuddly creature in the 1967 Japanese film “Son of Godzilla.” This kid gorilla leads Kong to a tribe of scraggly hostile apes who are living in a slave society presided over by the Skar King, an evil ape with blotchy red hair who’s as tall as Kong and wields a skeletal bone whip that looks like it was fashioned out of the spine of a sea serpent. The fifth and latest entry in the Warner Bros. MonsterVerse franchise has the misfortune of arriving on the heels of the Oscar-crowned Godzilla Minus One. That Japanese film demonstrated that it’s still possible to make a monster movie involving the iconic, irradiated giant lizard that also features a compelling narrative and memorable characters. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, on the other hand, mainly traffics in the sort of CGI-generated mayhem resembling a video game that will please the series’ fans but doesn’t bring anything new to attract non-diehards. At one point in the film, Godzilla, weary from all that stomping around, lies down to take a well-deserved nap in the middle of Rome’s Colosseum. It’s the most relatable moment in the film.

Adam Wingard's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" isn't so much a feature film as it is a Joycean stream-of-consciousness ramble escaped from the mind of a sugared-up eight-year-old, his tongue stained with the remnants of Blue Raspberry Warheads, slamming action figures together, roaring to himself in destructive ecstasy. Whereas Wingard's previous Godzilla film -- 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" -- brilliantly embraced the inherent silliness of the monsters' late-'60s Toho entries, "New Empire" tilts full-bore into the realm of Saturday morning cartoons, presenting a brazenly toyetic and visually wild romp that will crack even the hardest of hearts. "Godzilla x Kong" may make a viewer measurably dumber, but golly, that viewer will be entertained.
"Godzilla x Kong" moves so fast as to make one dizzy, and the visuals are so busy that a large caffeinated beverage may be required to keep up. The film climaxes with multiple monsters,...

It has been 70 years since the release of the original "Gojira," and somehow, the "Godzilla" franchise shows no signs of slowing down. Just this month alone, "Godzilla Minus One" took home some of the most prestigious awards in Japan's film industry, while Legendary Studios's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is projected by box office pundits everywhere to kick things off with a massive opening weekend.
But the influence of this franchise goes far beyond the screen. In addition to our review of the popular Prospero Hall title, we spoke to designer Aaron Donogh, who shared the process of bringing Toho Studios's iconic kaiju to the table -- and what the future could've held for more "Godzilla" games set in different eras of the franchise.

Everyone has their cinematic blind spot — that genre or subgenre that, try as you might, you just can't seem to connect with the way others do. For me, that blind spot is kaiju movies. Despite being surrounded by friends who love films in the "Godzilla" and "Pacific Rim" franchises, I've yet to find a monster movie that clicked.
So with "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" about to hit theaters, I thought I'd try a backdoor approach to the genre. Would playing a game like Prospero Hall's "Godzilla: Tokyo Clash" help me form a connection to the "Godzilla" franchise? Could I finally warm up to rubber suits if I'm the one doing the smashing? Well, after a heated session with a few of my closest friends, I'm pleased to report that "Godzilla: Tokyo Clash" might be the first thing in the "Godzilla" franchise that I genuinely enjoy.

We are in a golden age of Godzilla and kaiju cinema. No matter your level of familiarity with the iconic Toho character, and no matter what aspect of the mythos you like, there is something for everyone. There's the acclaimed, Oscar-nominated masterpiece "Godzilla Minus One" that brings the monster back to basics. There's the thrilling TV show which puts a focus on its human characters, and, of course, there's also a bonkers series of blockbuster movies.
After the disastrous Roland Emmerich film from 1998, it wasn't until 2014 that Hollywood figured out how to make a big budget "Godzilla" movie work. Since then, the MonsterVerse has turned into one of the better blockbuster franchises today. These movies mix the silliness of the best Toho kaiju movies with proper continuity and world-building. The age-old debate of DC vs. Marvel has been through more than enough ups and downs. If one takes the crown in a department, the other races past it in another. DC Animation has always been superior to Marvel, whereas the MCU has managed to win over audiences more than the DC movies. So it can never be said with assertion, which is better than the other.
Robert Pattinson as Batman in The Batman
Although movies in the MCU until Phase 3 were major success for Marvel Studios, they have dwindled in quality since the beginning of Phase 4. DC on the other hand have not had a good run for the most part, but with the current restructuring under James Gunn and Peter Safran, things seem to be looking up, although the final verdict is still a little while away.

Merian C. Cooper and Ernest Schoedsack's classic monster movie "King Kong" was released in 1933, so the monster turns 91 years old in 2024. That means he's definitely too old for this sh*t.
In Adam Wingard's 2021 film "Godzilla vs. Kong," the 70-year-old nuclear gorilla-whale and the 91-year-old mega-ape, both drawn by an ineffable, in-born monstrous instinct, had to fight. Over the course of many decades, Godzilla movies have taught us that if two kaiju ever appear in the same film, they instantly hate one another and have to start wailing on each other. It won't be until a tertiary monster appears — usually an "evil" one — that the primary and secondary monsters put aside their differences and team up to hang a beatin' on the new guy. This is what happened in "Godzilla vs. Kong." At first, the title monsters were enemies. When Mechagodzilla appeared, however, Kong and Godzilla pounded the interloper into the dirt.

As one of the main selling points of their films, Toho Studios has spent a vast majority of their time crafting monsters of various quantity and quality to be involved in their films whether it be in their main Godzilla series or their other features. While Godzilla has remained their big money-maker and longest-lasting series, that there have been other attempts at creating these kinds of movies that have meant the need for crafting either allies or opponents for these films over the years. Some are better than others, but when they hit a great idea for a creature or concept it should make sense to reuse the particular creature over and over again, such as with popular beasts like Anguirus, Rodan, King Ghidora, and Mothra, to name just a few. That makes it even weirder how some of the creatures were never given another shot as they provided a...

Looking through Shim Hyung-rae’s small oeuvre, it would only make sense for the South Korean comedian-turned-filmmaker to create a movie like Dragon Wars: D-War. As early as 1993, Shim was playing with monsters; his directorial debut, Young-Goo and Dinosaur Zu-Zu, is derivative of Gorgo, Mothra and the like. Shim returned soon after with more monster mayhem in two other obscurities: Tyranno’s Claws and Dragon Tukka. His big break then came in 1999 with the high-budget remake of 1967’s Yongary, Monster from the Deep. As exciting as the opportunity was, Shim ultimately experienced unforeseen hardship after directing what was, at the time, the most expensive Korean-produced movie.
Yonggary, or Reptilian in the West, led to a challenging period for Shim. This ‘99 movie could have easily been the end of his career. Strangely, though, it was not the critical derision that caused Shim’s personal crisis. On the contrary, a shady distribution...

Having already stomped his way into World of Warships and Fall Guys, Godzilla has now made his way into Minecraft in a new Dlc available now on the Minecraft Marketplace. The Dlc consists of four adventures based on the films from the series, including Godzilla vs. Kong.
The Dlc sees you head to the screening rooms, where you can check out these four brand-new adventures. You can go solo, or grab your friends for the multiplayer quests. The first adventure is an escape mission, which sees you as one of the citizens fleeing from Godzilla. Run through the city as you dodge Godzilla’s atomic breath, and try locating provisions along the way. You’ll earn extra points if you rescue other citizens.
The second adventure has you in a speed-rebuild effort as you attempt to build a wall around Godzilla. If you succeed, there’s plenty to discover and collect in the town.

For a Godzilla franchise that has basically established itself as a modernized, Americanized version of Toho Studio’s iconic Kaiju movies, Legendary’s Monsterverse is surprisingly inventive when it comes to the creation of gigantic monstrosities. Aside from the four primary iconic monsters of Godzilla lore, namely Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla, a major chunk of Monsterverse creatures are original additions. In addition to enriching the established Godzilla mythos, the monsters of Legendary’s shared universe, known as ‘Titans’, stand out on their own thanks to their cool, creative designs, which are a perfect amalgamation of natural world inspirations and inventive visual traits.
Legendary’s latest small-screen venture, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, has swung surprisingly hard, both narrative-wise and using a substantial budget to offer a monster spectacle of cinematic quality. The nuclear-powered Titans are integrated into the stories in a much better way than they were in the movies,...

The American MonsterVerse has its issues, like underwhelming human stories — especially compared to the Japanese "Godzilla" movies — but it does deliver on the big-budget kaiju action and worldbuilding. These movies present the kind of awesome destruction that can only be achieved by spending hundreds of millions of dollars, and it rules. Meanwhile, where most of the Japanese "Godzilla" movies are only loosely connected, the MonsterVerse has created a proper continuity of kaiju mayhem.
The MonsterVerse is full of strange creatures and locations connected through the outlandish concept of the Hollow Earth (a thing that raises twice as many questions as it even begins to answer). Sure, Godzilla and Kong are the stars, but there are so many other kaiju and critters that have got their time to shine, whether it's Japanese icons like Mothra and Ghidora, or new kaiju like Titanus Doug. I’ve been a Godzilla fan for as long as I can remember, with my childhood fascination with the radioactive reptile likely stemming from the 1998 animated series which served as a sequel to the first American remake. From there, I soon begged my parents to feed me with whatever Godzilla-related media they could find. As a teenager, I became a little more selective in my enjoyment of movies featuring the King of the Monsters, gravitating towards the horror aspects of the original and a handful of its successors. As a grown man, however, I have no shame in admitting that I frequently rewatch the cheesiest of these flicks while rooting for the monsters as if they were professional wrestlers in rubber suits.
That’s why I don’t say it lightly when I claim that I’m not aware of any other movie monster as versatile as this one.

This article contains spoilers for Legendary’s “MonsterVerse” films.
Apple+‘s newest blockbuster series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, has now arrived to flesh out the larger than life “MonsterVerse.” Legacy Pictures has been building this shared universe filled with infamous kaiju ever since the reboot of Godzilla in 2014, and since, has given us all the classic monsters including Ghidora, Mothra, Rodan and of course, Kong.
Legacy of Monsters helps fill the little gaps in the periphery of the story, fleshing out the humans who choose to find, study, and often protect these massive creatures. At the center of it all has always been the imposing consortium known as “Monarch.” With all the giant-sized kaiju-chaos that can often be the most memorable moments of these monster movies, it’s understandable if Monarch shrinks in the presence of the true stars of the show. Not to worry, though, because we’re about...

Godzilla is stomping onto streaming this week with his first live-action television series on Apple TV+.
“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” takes place within the MonsterVerse, established by 2014’s “Godzilla” and continued through with “Kong: Skull Island” in 2017, “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” in 2019 and “Godzilla vs. Kong” in 2021. But the series smartly shifts focus to Monarch, the mysterious organization that, we learn in the show, has been monitoring these giant creatures since the 1950s.
A pair of half-siblings (Anna Sawai and Ren Watabe) are looking into the disappearance of their father following Godzilla’s arrival on the scene and are drawn into the mystery of Monarch and a shadowy figure who was there for the agency’s formation.
Created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, the first two episodes of the show were directed by Matt Shakman, who directed all of “WandaVision” and has helmed episodes of “Game of Thrones,...

Legendary’s MonsterVerse Godzilla TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is set to premiere on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes on Friday, November 17, followed by one episode every Friday through January 12. (You can read our own Alex Maidy’s review of the first batch of episodes Here.) In anticipation of the show’s premiere, we’re taking a look back at several of Godzilla’s previous adventures to see how they stack up against each other. For the sake of keeping it as lean as possible, we’re focusing on his earliest days, going all the way back to the original Showa era, consisting of his very first outing in 1954, his first clashes with the likes of Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah and his cyborg counterpart, Mechagodzilla, before concluding its run in 1975. To add more familiarity to the pot, we’re also including his string of American blockbusters, from...

U.S. audiences tend to accept Toho's earlier Godzilla movies as being high camp, usually thanks to Gen-x's half-remembered airings of late-'60s kaiju flicks broadcast on Uhf TV channels back in the 1980s. While there are some absurd and terrible Godzilla films from the Showa era (1954-1975), and many of them contained surreal, kitschy plot elements like invading aliens, one might also find several movies -- "Gojira," "Destroy All Monsters" -- that focus on Japanese national pride, the role of destructive weapons in the world, and a barely-simmering resentment lingering after a massive attack on the country. If modern superhero movies sprung from the U.S. subconscious as a fantastical revenge/preventative measure against 9/11, so too did Godzilla spring fully formed from the trauma left behind by the U.S.' atomic bomb attacks.

Japan’s most iconic giant monster is set for a big screen return in Takashi Yamazaki’s upcoming film “Godzilla Minus One.” Until that day, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the long-lasting legacy of “Godzilla.” Originally conceived as a metaphor for the horrors of nuclear warfare, the kaiju has seen its fair share of unique variations. Yet, the beauty of why this character remains solidified in cinema history is for the ideas that come with its creation and existence, along with many unique interpretations. Like many movie series, the franchise’s quality frequently fluctuates, yet plenty of these movies are good, some even fantastic. Here is an exploration of the King of the Monsters’ finest hits throughout the years.

Nearly 70 years ago, monster movies changed forever with the introduction of Godzilla. The Japanese prehistoric monster awoke from its slumber in 1954 to terrorize villagers from Odo Island, announcing its presence with loud, lumbering footsteps and a bone-chilling roar. Since the original "Godzilla," kaiju movies have become a subgenre all their own, populated by epic monsters like Mothra and Ghidorah, with regular installments that range from corny to incredible.
In recent years, Hollywood has gotten in on the Godzilla game with Legendary Pictures' own spin on the world of giant monsters. But as exciting as it is to watch Kyle Chandler, Brian Tyree Henry, and Millie Bobby Brown face off against Godzilla, Japanese studio Toho (home to the vast majority of Godzilla flicks ever made) has something even more thrilling up its sleeve: a movie that looks poised to recapture the post-war terror of the beloved original. Remember when we got not only a great American "Godzilla" film that took the bad taste of the 1998 film out of our collective mouths, but also kickstarted a whole kaiju cinematic universe on par with the Toho films? Remember how, despite that fantastic first "Godzilla" movie, the attempt at bringing King Ghidorah, Mothra, and other monsters was rather disappointing as it turned Godzilla into a hero? Well, at least the "MonsterVerse" was vindicated with the silly yet wholly entertaining "Godzilla vs. Kong" — whose star we interviewed in one of the greatest journalistic moments of 2021.
One of the weirdest and coolest ideas introduced in the MonsterVerse movies is that of the Hollow Earth, which began as just an easy explanation as to why no one had noticed the massive monsters before, but later became a fully-fledged and enigmatic underground realm. "Futurama" is finally back... again! The beloved animated sci-fi series following the misadventures of the ragtag crew of an intergalactic delivery company debuted in the spring of 1999 on Fox, where it ran for four seasons. It was then canceled by Fox, revived by Comedy Central, canceled by Comedy Central, and now, 10 years after its last episode ran, "Futurama" has been brought back for an eleventh season on Hulu.
Matt Groening's left-brained follow-up to "The Simpsons" has always, like that classic sitcom parody, played directly in the sandbox of hyper-current pop and political culture. The series has devoted entire episodes to satirizing (as a means of analyzing) everything from "Star Trek," to the controversial presidential election of 2000, to James Cameron's "Avatar," California's marriage equality referendum Proposition 8, and even "The Simpsons" itself.

Matt Groening's left-brained follow-up to "The Simpsons" has always, like that classic sitcom parody, played directly in the sandbox of hyper-current pop and political culture. In one corner, veteran heavyweight Christopher Nolan. In the other, nimble visionary Greta Gerwig. Their big films come out on the same day – but whose will triumph at the box office?
We live in divisive times. Opinion is more tribal and entrenched than ever, the value of reasoned argument and willing compromise plummeting by the day. This volatility could spread to the multiplex next month, where a battle of the blockbusters is destined to make previous cinematic standoffs – Mothra v Godzilla, Alien v Predator, Kramer vs Kramer – look like games of playground pat-a-cake. Get ready, then, for Barbie v Oppenheimer.
Directed by celebrated auteurs (Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan respectively), and hyped by multiple trailers over the past year, both movies are scheduled to open on the same crowded day. Forget your Qr codes: this is one time to buy a physical ticket and save the stub to show your grandchildren.

In an official statement, Pluto hyped their Godzilla channel with the following: “The King of the Monsters has made landfall on Pluto TV! Emerging in 1954, Godzilla has become a global icon and symbol that has transcended time and pop culture. After debuting as a terror that descended upon Tokyo, Godzilla has fought numerous foes and gained new allies over several distinct eras. While each film stands alone in its own moment in time, the evolution of Godzilla followed advancements and film and technology along with cultural trends, yet always staying rooted in the origins from 1954. Today, fans can celebrate one of the world’s most...
