“We have and are taking a cautious approach with the World Cup on the near horizon,” National Selection Panel (Nsp) Chair George Bailey was quoted as saying by cricket.

Abu Dhabi, Sep 29 (Ians) Lance Klusener, head coach of Morrisville Samp Army — one of the new franchises — believes that they have the wherewithal to challenge the other seven teams in the sixth edition of the Abu Dhabi T10.
Klusener believes the squad that Samp Army have put together is along the lines of what they had planned. Klusener said, “We are extremely happy about the team we have been able to put together. We’ve pretty much got a composition of what we were looking for and the players we were looking for. Hopefully, we can find that consistency with the performance over the course of the tournament.”
“We didn’t have to change strategy too much. We were lucky in this draft. Yes, they do change and it can be volatile, but I think there was enough options to satisfy our game style,” he was quoted as saying in a release by the franchise.

St Lucia, Sep 12 (Ians) Saint Lucia Kings kept their Hero Cpl hopes alive with dominant win over St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.
The Patriots opted to field first after winning the toss. That decision seemed to have backfired as Johnson Charles and Faf Du Plessis put on a blistering opening partnership that saw them post 61 runs in the PowerPlay.
They put on 86 for the first wicket, before Charles was dismissed in the ninth over. His 41 included four fours and two sixes. The Lucia Kings faltered after losing nine wickets for 75 runs and totalled 161 for nine, which was a challenging total. Some late hitting from Matthew Forde ensured the Kings were able to post a par score of 161.
However, the Patriots got off to a bad start in the PowerPlay losing three wickets for 48 runs. They never recovered from that position.

St Kitts & Nevis, May 23 (Ians) West Indian all-rounder and Kolkata Knight Riders' (Kkr) mainstay, Andre Russell is among the high-profile retentions by the Jamaica Tallawahs franchise ahead of the Caribbean Premier League (Cpl) 2021, which will be played here from August 28 to September 19.
Russell, who has been with Jamaica Tallawahs since 2013, had created a controversy last year when he said that it was the "weirdest" franchise he has played for, and that the 2020 Cpl would be his last for the team.
However, Russell will be part of the Tallawahs again along with fellow allrounders Carlos Brathwaite and Rovman Powell, according to espncricinfo.com.
St. Kitts & Nevis is hosting this year's Cpl in its entirety, with all the 33 games scheduled to take place in the twin islands because of logistical issues arising due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 31 (Ians/GloFans) Five wins on the trot saw Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) making a turnaround in their fortunes before a defeat to Rajasthan Royals (Rr) dented their Indian Premier League playoff chances. Kxip side will now have to play out of their skin against a buoyant Chennai Super Kings (Csk) on Sunday and strengthen their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
With the race to playoffs intensifying, Kxip (12 points from 13 games) will not just bank on a win but would also hope all other calculations go their way to enable them to finish among the top four at the end of the league phase. Dubai, Oct 23 (Ians/GloFans) After three consecutive wins, Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) have managed to remain afloat in the Indian Premier League (Ipl). The Kl Rahul-led side will now face a stern test when they take on fifth-placed SunRisers Hyderabad (Srh) in the 43rd contest of the season here on Saturday.
Both Punjab and Hyderabad are on eight points but the David Warner-led team is a spot ahead in the points-table, thanks to their better net run rate.
The two teams now need to win all their remaining games in order to remain in contention for the next round.
Kxip captain Kl Rahul and his opening partner Mayank Agarwal have been in sublime form and the arrival of Chris Gayle has further bolstered their top-order.
However, Glenn Maxwell's consistency remains doubtful as, barring the last game against Delhi Capitals (DC), the Aussie has not been up to the mark.

Dubai, Oct 19 (Ians/GloFans) After a memorable double Super Over win against reigning champions Mumbai Indians (Mi), a rejuvenated Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) will aim to carry their momentum and keep their chances of making it to the playoffs alive when they meet table toppers Delhi Capitals (DC) here on Tuesday.
Led by Kl Rahul, Kxip held their nerves in the heart-stopping contest at the same venue, Dubai International Stadium. The win would have surely boosted the morale of Kxip and the squad would aim to replicate the performance against Shreyas Iyer's men, who are currently atop the table with 14 points.
The sole problem with Kxip has been their failure to click as a unit, barring Rahul and opener Mayank Agarwal. The others have not supported them as they should have.

Dubai, Oct 17 (Ians/GloFans) Reigning champions Mumbai Indians (Mi) would look to enhace their chances of sealing a playoff berth with a win when they play a deflated Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) in the 36th game of the 13th Indian Premier League (Ipl) here on Sunday.
Despite being in red hot form, the Rohit Sharma-led Mi wouldn't take their opponents lightly on Sunday, as Kxip is motivated by the return of hard-hitting Chris Gayle.
While Mi are the current joint toppers with 12 points, Kxip languish at the bottom of the eight-team standings and another defeat will make their task to qualify very difficult.
After missing most of the first-half games, self-proclaimed 'Universe Boss' Gayle made a decent start with a 45-ball 53 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) in the previous game. The Kxip think-tank will hope Gayle to replicate the show along with the in-form opener Mayank Agarwal and skipper Kl Rahul,...

Sharjah, Oct 14 (Ians/GloFans) Bottom-placed Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) will be under tremendous pressure as they now face a must-win situation when they take on the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) in the Indian Premier League (Ipl) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium here on Thursday.
After losing six of their seven games, the Kl Rahul-led Kxip are languishing at the bottom of the points table with two points. Despite having the top-two leading run-getters of the season in skipper Rahul (387 runs) and Mayank Agarwal (337), Kxip have failed in getting wins.
Barring the duo, the other Kxip batters have failed to click and lack of an all-round effort has been clearly visible. Same is the condition of the bowling attack as except Mohammad Shami and Ravi Bishnoi, the others have been off-colour.
However, Kxip can draw some confidence from the fact their solitary win in ongoing season had come against Rcb.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 10 (Ians) Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) captain Dinesh Karthik on Saturday won the toss and elected to bat in their Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2020 match against Kings XI Punjab to be played at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.
"The wicket looks dry, so we'll have a bat first. As the tournament progresses, we'll get the right batting order, but it worked well in the last game," Karthik said after winning the toss.
Both the teams have made one change in their playing XIs which featured in last matches. While Kkr have brought in Prasidh Krishna for Shivam Mavi, Kings XI have replaced Sheldon Cottrell with Chris Jordan.
Kkr have won three out of the five games they have played so far. On the other hand, Kings XI have been able to register just one win in their previous six games and are currently lying at the bottom of the points table.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 9 (Ians/GloFans) The ongoing Indian Premier League (Ipl) season has almost reached its half-way mark and the Kl Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) are yet to find winnings ways. The bottom-of the-table team will now be up against Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) on Saturday in what could be called a must-win game if they want to keep their play-offs hopes alive.
With just a single win from six games, Kxip seem to be over-reliant on skipper Rahul, opener Mayank Agarwal and pace bowler Mohammad Shami. Barring the trio, the rest of the players have failed to click.
Nicholas Pooran showed signs of the destruction he could cause in the middle-order in the game against SunRisers Hyderabad (Srh) but the Caribbean player needs to be consistent. Other hard-hitters like Glenn Maxwell have been completely silent so far.
In the bowling department, Shami has led from the front with nine wickets from six games.

New Delhi, Oct 7 (Ians) In three of their five Ipl matches this season, Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) have conceded 200 runs or thereabouts. What has been worse is that all of these poor bowling performances have come in Dubai, where none of the other six games, which haven't featured Rcb, have seen anything close to 200.
This continues the problem of bowling options for skipper Virat Kohli, especially at the 'death', and if the early trend is anything to go by, it will be this weakness that may again stand in the way of Rcb's quest for an Ipl title.
Kohli has been Rcb captain since 2013 when he was appointed the regular skipper.
Among the Ipl skippers who have led their sides in more than 100 matches -- Ms Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir being the other ones -- Kohli has the worst success percentage and is the only...

Dubai, Oct 3 (Ians/GloFans) Thrice champions Chennai Super Kings (Csk) failed to take advantage of a six-day rest and on return lost to SunRisers Hyderabad on Friday. Csk will have another opportunity to redeem themselves when they meet Kings XI Punjab (Kxip), who are still looking for their first Ipl title, in Sunday's second encounter here.
Csk have undoubtedly dominated the lucrative tournament since its inception in 2008, but the Ms Dhoni-led side is struggling this year. Nothing has been going right for Csk: first it was off-field issues, and now they have failed to deliver on the field as well, suffering three defeats on the trot.
Csk are surely a star-studded side on paper, but so far they haven't lived up to the expectations they have raised. And in such a situation, Csk need to salvage pride when they face Kxip here.
A lot was talked about Dhoni's batting position...

Dubai, Oct 4 (Ians) Shane Watson (83 not out) and Faf du Plessis (87 not out) brought Chennai Super Kings (Csk) back to winning ways in emphatic fashion on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The pair put an unbeaten 181-run opening partnership to take their team to a 10-wicket victory over Kings XI Punjab (Kxip).
The pair chased down the target of 179 with more than two overs to spare. This is the second highest target a team has managed to chased down without losing a wicket.
It is also only the second time that Csk have managed to win a match by 10 wickets and they are also the first team to successfully chase down a target in Dubai this season.
Watson and du Plessis hardly gave any threads for the bowling side and got off to a swift start. du Plessis smashed 19 runs off the sixth over to take Csk to...
