The Shouting Men, on general release in March, cert: Tbc
The attitudes of football fans have come a long way since the 1970s. British cinema has been slow to recognise this, however, and to this day delivers a constant spirit-sapping stream of fraudulently glamorous bovver movies – usually starring Danny Dyer strutting around like Liam Gallagher with an inflamed coccyx – which depict firms engaging in nawty rumbles, pwopah tear-ups, and the occasional pinging of some nonce. It's a flagrant insult to the intelligence: few other groups are trapped in a similar celluloid timewarp. Do policemen still sport handlebar moustaches? Do office workers hanker after the keys to the executive washroom? Has Hugh Grant recently been asked to look up his leading lady's skirt like a latter-day Robin Askwith?

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Nicole Cutler has criticised the BBC for its treatment of the show's professional dancers. Cutler joined the BBC One ballroom competition for series two in 2004, when she was partnered with TV personality Diarmuid Gavin. She went on to appear in two further seasons, working with newsreader Nicholas Owen in series four and ex-footballer John Barnes in series five, but has not been asked to return for this year's run. Speaking about her time on the show, Cutler told the News of the World: "It's nothing like it looks on TV. And it's all the BBC's fault." The dancer confirmed that the show's professionals were unhappy about their £17,000 pay packets last year. "It seems hard to believe but with the hours we put in for last year's show we were getting £6 an hour, which is only (more)...
