London, Aug 27 (Ians) Grace Scrivens will be captaining the Ecb Development XI which will be taking on Sri Lanka women in a warm-up fixture in Arundel on August 28. Grace was the captain of the England side which finished runners-up to India in the inaugural U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa and was also adjudged Player of the Tournament.
In the squad led by Grace, many players like Liberty Heap, Niamh Holland, Ryana MacDonald-Gay, Charis Pavely, Davina Perrin, Lizzie Scott, and Alexa Stonehouse, who were involved in the 2023 England team in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup programme, also feature in the Ecb Development XI.
Charlotte Lambert and Jemima Spence, who were the non-travelling reserves for that tournament, are also included in the squad. The one-off T20 warm-up fixture will act as important preparation for Sri Lanka ahead of their upcoming T20I and Odi series against Heather Knight-led England.

Talk about a movie where you just don’t know where to start! With The Darkest Universe, co-directors Tom Kingsley and Will Sharpe have crafted what I can only describe as my favorite, completely surreal, yet right down to earth, drama I have watched in 2016… Wait, no, in years.
As I have said previously, I am on a real Indie “hidden gem” kick right now and I was asked to review this movie suspecting that it would be right up my street. And it is. The Darkest Universe is an absolute gem of a movie for more reasons than I can explain, but I will try.

No, this title doesn’t refer to being the last one to arrive in music class and getting stuck with the lamest of instruments to play. Satan’s Triangle (1975) is a creepy, seafaring TV tale of supernatural mystery with an ending that absolutely kills. You may think the title tells all, and the journey can’t quite supplant the destination, but oh boy, what a destination. You’re going to need your sea legs for this finale.
For those not familiar with The Bermuda Triangle, aka The Devil’s Triangle, it is an area of water loosely configured between Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and Florida that was privy to many disappearances – boats, planes, and people. And back in the ‘70s, long before the internet, the only information to go on about this and other phenomena (Hey Bigfoot!) was provided by speculative quasidocumentaries, scientific journals dispelling the myths, and TV fodder such as Satan’s Triangle.

That cultural symbol of medics – from Kenneth Williams in Carry On Doctor to Edie Falcon's Nurse Jackie – is being replaced by cheaper and more accurate ultrasound devices
If you Google "Hugh Laurie" and "stethoscope", you will come up with a clutch of stories from February 2012 about how everybody's favourite pill-popping misanthropic physician is "hanging up his stethoscope" after eight seasons on the hit show House.
This underlines a more general truth: doctors don't retire, they hang up their stethoscopes. Is there any profession so proverbially connected to one tool of their trade? Will people believe you are a doctor if you don't wear one?
These questions become topical because the stethoscope is reportedly becoming obsolete, nearly 200 years after it was invented. Is it anything to do with the finding that a third of Us stethoscopes used in emergencies were contaminated with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (Mrsa) bacteria? No, but it probably didn't help.

The Secret of Crickley Hall BBC One
N Conrad
Episode one of The Secret of Crickley Hall was somewhat silly but thoroughly entertaining. In contrast, episode two was absolutely terrifying. At this point in the story, I am wondering if Magda Cribben (Sarah Smart) may be even more deranged than her sadistic brother Augustus (Douglas Henshall). That being said, Maurice Stafford, Gordon Pyke and Lili Peel all seem a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
The flashback game is a dangerous one to play as you can easily lose your audience – a la Lost. However, the folks behind Crickley Hall seamlessly managed to weave together footage from 1943 and the modern era without disrupting the flow of either of the overlapping story lines. On the performance front, Suranne Jones was at the center of the pre-publicity and she has done well in the role of Eva. However, for my money Olivia Cooke...

Filmmakers have continued to push boundaries and find new innovative ways to elicit the emotions of fear, disgust and horror from viewers. Since Alfred Hitchcock directors strived to provoke viewer’s nightmares, hidden fears, revulsions and terror of the unknown. Although a good deal of it is about the supernatural, others have focused more on a plot about morbidity, serial killers, a disease/virus outbreak, surrealism and more. This year we see vampires, outbreaks, poltergeists, aliens, zombies, and psychological horror/character studies featured on our list.
What is considered to be a horror film has varied from decade to decade. These days, the term “horror” is applied to films which display more explicit gore, jump scenes/scares or supernatural content whereas early horror movies were largely based on classic literature of the gothic/horror genre, such as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Phantom of the Opera, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
