It seems reasonable to expect that just about anything can and will go wrong with a full-size replica of a cruise ship that famously sank on its maiden voyage, killing more than 1,500 people aboard. But Titanic II, Australian mining billionaire Clive Palmer’s proposed heir to the original Rms Titanic, hasn’t faced a disaster so far — because over the decade and change that Palmer has been pitching it, nothing has been built.

Twenty-five years on, composer and events producer Bobby Cole can still remember the first time he saw the trailer for James Cameron’s Titanic appear on TV. “It was done so well, I went to school the next day and I remember saying to someone, ‘They found this drawing at the bottom of the ocean!’” he says. “I thought it was real.”
If you came of age in the late Nineties, you can probably remember your first encounter with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack, Kate Winslet’s Rose, and a certain 56-carat blue diamond. Cameron’s 1997 film was perfectly calibrated to make an indelible mark on impressionable young minds: a heady blend of harrowing disaster, doomed romance, top-of-the-range CGI and Celine Dion.

An exact replica of the Titanic, the ship that sank in the Atlantic Ocean after hitting an iceberg in 1912, will set sail in 2018. According to the Independent, the Titanic II will look identical to the original ship, although it will be 13 feet wider with an updated hull to meet modern maritime safety requirements. And like the original, the new Titanic, created by Australian businessman Clive Palmer and his company, Blue Star Line, will offer first, second and third class tickets. Last year Australian billionaire Clive Palmer announced plans to build the Titanic II, a full-scale replica of the famed sunken ocean liner that would stand as testimony to man’s indomitable spirit in the face of overwhelming symbolism, and the timeless determination of the proud to die ironically. And while Palmer willfully ignored the lessons about building full-scale Titanic replicas we all learned in The Asylum’s Titanic II, it seems he’s determined to tempt fate even further by also building another Titanic II movie: The Herald Sun reports that Palmer is planning not one but two films about ...

While James Cameron is busy focusing on the sequels to “Avatar,” Australia’s Herald Sun is reporting that mining billionaire Clive Palmer is intent on squaring off against Cameron’s previous billion-dollar blockbuster, “Titanic.” Last spring Palmer announced his intention to build an exact replica of the ill-fated cruise ship as the flagship vessel of his cruise company and dub it the Titanic II. Not content with courting ironic disaster, Palmer has decided to make not one, but two films about his new ship. The first, a documentary, would detail the construction of the life-sized replica. The second film—fictional, of course—will be set on his massive new oceanliner, with Palmer boldly promising that his "Titanic" movie “should be a lot better movie than” Cameron’s hugely successful film. “The script’s looking pretty good at the moment—it’s not finished but it’s very interesting,” said Palmer...

All aboard the Titanic? If an Australian billionaire has his way, that won't be such a crazy thought. Tuesday, Clive Palmer unveiled a design for a new cruse ship, a full-sized replica of the Titanic. According to USA Today, he says the ship will be built in China and make it's first voyage in the third quarter of 2016.
One thing Palmer won't talk about is the expected cost of building the ship, however he says he's received a big response from people who wish to be passengers on the maiden voyage. In fact, he expects the ship to be so popular, that he'll have to build a Titanic III to meet demand.
Critics say the ship will likely have trouble attracting an audience after the first voyage, while others complain that the ship is a desecration to the memory of those who lost their lives aboard the original "ship of dreams.
