Emma Stone’s fifth stint as host of Saturday Night Live saw the Oscar-winning actress be presented with a jacket to mark the occasion by two other “five-timers”: former SNL cast member Tina Fey and Candice Bergen of Murphy Brown.
Fey noted that the 35-year-old Stone is now the youngest member of the club.
“You’re going to love it in there,” she explained. “A few years ago, they even added a whole women’s section. It was actually Candice Bergen’s idea.”

This week’s Saturday Night Live cold open gave a musical send-off to expelled congressman George Santos.
Before Bowen Yang’s Santos made his way over to a piano to perform a parody of “Candle in the Wind,” he took questions from the media regarding his removal from the U.S. House of Representatives.
“This entire country has been bullying me just because I am a proud gay thief,” Yang’s Santos initially says. “But what else is new? America hates to see a Latina queen winning since the day I was elected. It’s been a witch hunt but if I’m guilty of anything, it’s for loving too much/fraud.”
When one of the reporters asked him how he felt about being the sixth House member in history to be expelled by his colleagues, Yang’s Santos responded, “You want me to say that I lost? That I’m humiliated?...

Emma Stone made it into Saturday Night Live’s five-timers club and was welcomed by Tina Fey and Candice Bergen.
The Poor Things star hosted the NBC sketch show for the fifth time and became one of a few group of celebrities to join the club and got her five-timers jacket as an honor.
“It is so great to be back. It’s my fifth time hosting SNL,” Stone said at the top of her monologue. “It has always been my favorite show and since I started hosting it’s also become just a huge part of my life. I have made so many memories here and so many friends. And I even met my husband at SNL.”
Stone joked that her husband was “pretty camera show” and “would love for the cameras to cut to him” with the cameras cutting to producer Lorne Michaels.

Emma Stone this weekend joined Saturday Night Live‘s 5-Timers Club with her latest turn as host — and Candice Bergen and Tina Fey were on hand to properly commemorate the feat.
Clad in the always plush-looking 5-Timers Club robe, Fey interrupted Stone’s opening monologue to congratulate the actress on joining their ranks. Fey noted that at age 35, Stone is the (increasingly less-exclusive) club’s youngest member.

Emma Stone joined “Saturday Night Live’s” coveted Five-Timers Club this Saturday, and was welcomed into “SNL her-story” by Tina Fey and Candice Bergen during her monologue.
Fey and Bergen gifted Stone with the iconic Five-Timers Club jacket, which Stone joked had a joint in the pocket.
“That must be Woody Harrelson’s jacket,” Bergen quipped.
“There’s also a vaccine card in here,” Stone said, to which Fey responded, “Then it’s definitely not Woody’s.”
Harrelson hosted “SNL” in February and alluded to conspiracies about the Covid-19 vaccine in his monologue.
Stone’s episode was opened by Bowen Yang, who played expelled congressman George Santos and sang a parody of Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind.”
Stone currently stars opposite Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie in Showtime’s “The Curse,” created by Fielder and Safdie. The series follows Whitney and Asher Siegel (played by Stone and Fielder...

Emma Stone joined the Five-Timers Club on this week’s episode of “Saturday Night Live,” and as is tradition, she was joined by other members of the club – but in a twist, Stone’s induction was female-focused.
Tina Fey was the first to appear and noted that Stone is the youngest member of the club. “I am the second-youngest at 53,” she quipped.
Fey then brought out Candice Bergen to help with the induction, who discussed a women’s room for club members. “It’s got everything,” Bergen said. “It’s got showers, a locker room, a big portrait with the eyes cut out so Martin Short can peep in.”
When Stone inquired if the eyeholes worked both ways and you could see into the men’s room, Bergen said, “You don’t wanna do that. I looked in there once and saw a creepy ventriloquist with a ventriloquist dummy staring at me.

Former “Dancing With the Stars” host Tom Bergeron reunited with dancer and franchise veteran Cheryl Burke on the latter’s “Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans” podcast (via Entertainment Weekly) and reflected on his tumultuous exit from the long-running ABC reality competition series. Bergeron was the original host of the program and led the show for 28 seasons. He parted ways with “DWTS” after the 2019 season because the show executives did not listen to his advice about staying out of politics and cast Sean Spicer, the hugely controversial former press secretary for President Donald Trump, to compete.
“In the summer of 2019, I had two lunches — one with that showrunner person and another one with his boss,” Bergeron remembered. “I said, ‘Well look, 2019 is the threshold to an election year in America, we are a very divided country. Since 1991 (and primarily within the last 10 years), a total of six TV performers have earned recognition from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for reprising roles that had brought them Golden Globe nominations at least a decade earlier. With this and his own stellar HFPA track record in mind, Kelsey Grammer – the two-time Best TV Comedy Actor-winning star of “Frasier” – can more than reasonably be expected to join said prestigious club by scoring his ninth bid in the category (and first in 22 years) for the Paramount Plus revival of his beloved NBC sitcom. What’s more, he might actually make history as the first actor involved in such a situation to pull off a comeback victory.
Grammer collected his first eight Golden Globe nominations for “Frasier” between 1994 and 2002 and emerged triumphant in both 1996 and 2001. After saying goodbye to Dr. Frasier Crane 19 years ago, he is now set to lead a long-awaited...

This extraordinary move was seen as a bold departure from her storied history on the small screen that had seen her deliver performances of a lifetime. Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne have played a husband and wife in the Neighborhood movie franchise.
The pair reunites for the Apple TV+ comedy series Platonic, which finds them playing one-time best friends who fall back into each other's lives.
They share an all-consuming friendship that gets them into wild situations.
Byrne tells TV Fanatic exclusively that while Rogen and creators Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco were all draws for her to sign on the dotted line, she connected with the platonic relationship between her character Sylvia and Rogen's Will.
"I have a dear friend who is a guy, and we've always had a platonic friendship, and I've definitely been under the scrutiny of other people going, 'Hold on, wait, you're just friends?'"
Byrne says that Platonic is "pure comedy" and that viewers should expect "emotional resonance," but at its core, the show is very much about entertaining the audience while challenging expectations.

Although the new film, Book Club: The Next Chapter may boast a cast of Hollywood royalty, including Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen, a lack of logical forward momentum or functional narrative leave the whole thing pretty much dead in the water.
The sequel to 2018’s Book Club, cleverly titled Book Club: The Next Chapter, follows the four best friend from the first film as they take a the “girls” trip to Italy that they never have, but always wanted to. But, as the intended relaxing vacation becomes an off-the-rails cross-country adventure of mistaken identity and outlandish hijinks, the four members of the Book Club find their friendships, and personal relationships, put to the test as well.

From riding boats in Venice to landing in Tuscany in a helicopter, “Book Club: The Next Chapter” star Jane Fonda had quite the adventure in Italy with Diane Keaton, Mary Steenburgen and Candice Bergen.

You put four seasoned superstars together in one film, point a camera at them and turn them loose in Italy and you can bet there will be plenty of fun to be had both on that camera and off it. And that’s exactly what happened when Jane Fonda, Mary Steenburgen, Candice Bergen and Diane Keaton reunited for “Book Club: The Next Chapter.” Watching the film, you can see the connection these women have, which makes one wonder, are they acting or are they members of a mutual admiration society behind the scenes? TheWrap got the answer rather quickly when we sat down with Fonda and Steenburgen.

“Book Club: The Next Chapter” is one of those rare sequels that feels like an earned inevitability rather than a desperate bid. That’s because its quartet of genuinely iconic stars — Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Mary Steenburgen, and Candice Bergen — all wanted to make another movie with director Bill Holderman, and the 2018 original film’s $104 million global gross certainly sweetened the deal.
So did a two-month-plus, all-expenses-paid trip to Italy.
In the Focus Features sequel, the four bookish besties rekindle after a long pandemic slog of dishing on books and slurping wine over Zoom. Here, Vivian (Fonda), Diane, Sharon (Bergen), and Carol (Steenburgen) are all tangling with crises that apply to any stage of life: love, marriage, and career.
But they’re doing so on a glitzy trip to Florence, Rome, and beyond, and with their book club selection, Paul Coehlo’s “The Alchemist,” as their guide.

Reuniting four genuine movie icons – Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen – whose first film in this senior franchise, 2017’s Book Club, was a surprise hit making over $100 million worldwide, there was proof positive that older female audience was eager for a night or matinee out at the multiplex if the idea and cast were right. Since then the pandemic hit and changed moviegoing habits for the older crowd, a group that is hard to get back into theatres (although not impossible – witness The Lost City and Ticket To Paradise). My guess is that with this quartet back in fine form, and now all over 70 (!), this could again play with the usual Hollywood conceit that women of a certain age are not boxoffice. Throw in Italy...

Signed, sealed and delivered, Book Club: The Next Chapter is an unabashed love letter to four great movie stars. As a vehicle for their talents, it’s less of a sure thing. If you can see past the clunky plot contrivances, strained hijinks and one-liners that don’t land, and focus on the Italy-set comedy’s Mediterranean glow and the dazzling quartet of go-getters at its center, the movie might fit the bill as a celebratory pairing with Mother’s Day brunch.
The tagline on the key art encapsulates the sequel’s problems: “Slightly Scandalous. Totally Fabulous.” That qualifying “slightly” signals the softer cadence of this reunion. In the 2018 hit, Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen transcended the often tepid humor with their rat-a-tat delivery; here, returning director Bill Holderman, again working from a screenplay he wrote with Erin Simms, struggles to find a rhythm, and flat...

Since Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist came out in 1988, it’s obtained an almost apocryphal status that it’s bound to never outgrow. The book, which concerns an Andalusian shepherd on a journey to find out what his destiny is, has been acclaimed less as a gift of great literature than as a fount of self-help. Given that it’s an affirming and, especially, digestible tale of discovery and hope, it makes for an apt early reference point for Bill Holderman’s Book Club: The Next Chapter: Though its main characters don’t carry on an official reading series in this sequel, each points to Coelho’s book as something of a north star in their lives.
The film is cinema as affirmation, asking us to think of it as a ticket to a far-flung locale, where love might be birthed alongside conversations with good friends about innocuous barriers that we pretend are insurmountable.

Back in the 1980s, John Larroquette dominated Best Comedy Supporting Actor at the Emmys. He won the category four times in a row (1985-88) for playing Dan Fielding on the NBC sitcom “Night Court.” Now, 35 years after his last win for the show and this time in Best Comedy Actor, he’s seeking to join an even more exclusive club of actors who have won five Emmys for playing the same character.
If Larroquette were to claim a fifth Emmy for playing Fielding, he would join three other performers who have also won that amount. Don Knotts won five times in Best Comedy Supporting Actor for his role as Deputy Sherrif Barney Fife on “The Andy Griffith Show” in 1961, 1962, 1963, 1967 and 1968. Ed Asner won three Emmys in Best Comedy Supporting Actor for playing Lou Grant on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and then two for Best Drama Actor for the same character on the spin-off show,...

Over his decades-spanning career, Mike Myers has crafted some of comedy's most memorable characters. You might know him most fondly as the headbanging hero Wayne of "Wayne's World," whether on "Saturday Night Live" during his '89-'95 tenure or in the celebrated movie adaptations. Perhaps you recall how he dominated the late '90s as both villain and swinging protagonist in the spy-parodic "Austin Powers" movies, and the subsequent inability to walk down the street without hearing a poorly-feigned Dr. Evil impression. Maybe ogres are your bag, making Myers' turn as an unrefined Scottish mean green machine Shrek the zenith of his talents. Or perhaps the name is fairly new for emergent comedy fans, the product of stumbling upon the cult-centric laugh-fest "The Pentaverate" on Netflix. Myers' influence on comedy is well-established, but what influences the influencer?

Leslie Jordan, the goofy comic actor perhaps best known for his Emmy-winning turn as Beverley Leslie, the cynical foil to Megan Mullally’s Karen Walker, on Will & Grace, has died. He was 67.
Jordan was at the wheel of a BMW when he crashed into the side of a building at Cahuenga Boulevard and Romaine Street in Hollywood on Monday morning. He was declared dead at the scene and could have suffered a medical emergency beforehand.
Jordan recurs as Phil, the gay baker at the café owned by Mayim Bialik’s character, on the Fox sitcom Call Me Kat, which returned for its third season last month. He appeared in all five of the new season’s episodes so far.
His other recent work includes turns on FX’s American Horror Story — playing different characters over three seasons — and the 2018-19 Fox sitcom The Cool Kids.

The directors of hit Turkish biopic “Bergen,” Mehmet Binay and M. Caner Alper, have signed with CAA for representation.
“Bergen” tells the story of 1980s Turkish pop singer Bergen, who grappled with a violent husband that hired someone to pour nitric acid on her face and later shot and killed her. The film follows the singer’s meteoric rise from cello player to becoming Turkey’s “Queen of Arabesque,” all while struggling with a partner hellbent on sabotaging her career.
As previously reported by Variety, the film has become a sleeper box office hit across West Asia where it has resonated with audiences for its potent message about domestic violence. In Turkey, the film sparked controversy and heightened awareness of the government’s lenience towards perpetrators of femicide after the country last year formally left the Istanbul Convention, a Council of Europe treaty that requires signatories to fight violence against women.

The Madam Secretary star assumes the role Aug. 1, hitting the stage at the Ambassador Theatre in New York on a run that continues through Sept. 11.
The showing follows a Broadway outing late last year in Waitress, for which he reprised his role as love interest Dr. Jim Pomatter, a part he previously played in 2018 and again in 2019. Bergen has also been seen on screens big and small in Bull, Jersey Boys, Gossip Girl, The Good Fight, Humor Me and more.
Bergen, who also produces major events through his 6W Entertainment, is repped by Buchwald and Industry Entertainment.
