Bam! The 11th season premiere of “MasterChef” welcomed Emeril Lagasse, one of the most famous culinary artists in the world, as a special “Legend” to help mentor the all-new contestants. He joined up with host Gordon Ramsay and returning fan-fave judges Joe Bastianich and Aaron Sanchez. The last time “MasterChef” aired was Summer 2019, so it’s been two years since we’ve seen home cooks try their luck at impressing some of the most notable names in the food industry. The reason for the delay was the Covid-19 pandemic that shuttered most of the entertainment industry, however the show was finally able to film beginning in Fall 2020. How did Wednesday’s highly anticipated premiere play out?

Gordon Ramsay‘s “MasterChef” debuted July 27, 2010 on Fox following an episode of spiritual cousin series “Hell’s Kitchen.” While the latter reality TV show features professionals, “MasterChef” is open to amateurs who have mostly only cooked at home. Each season the judges are tasked with cutting down the number of chef-testants until only one remains. The winner takes home a cash prize of $250,000 and the coveted trophy, plus some champs have even received cookbook deals. Kodi Lee took the big prize last night as the winner of America’s Got Talent’s 14th season, but there wasn’t much of a victory dance for the Simon Cowell show or NBC.
With a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49, Agt fell 29% from its Season 13 finisher of September 19, 2018 to hit an all-time finale low. While the 10.08 million who tuned Wednesday was not an all-time viewership finale low, the total sets of eyeballs were down 22% from the finale of Season 13.
Having said that, Agt and a primetime A Little Late With Lilly Singh did deliver the Comcast-owned net a clear Wednesday win with a 1.1 in the key demo and 7.56 million viewers overall. Also, Agt scored a Season 14 Wednesday 18-49 high with the finale, bouncing up 25% from last week.
Yet a low is a low and not the way you want to go out.

The winner of Season 10 of MasterChef has been announced. But that news didn’t come as a surprise to social media followers.
Contestant Dorian Hunter is the champion, but a Facebook post leaked earlier showed her posing with host Gordon Ramsay, plus judges Aarón Sanchez and Joe Bastianich and previous competition winners, including Jennifer Behm (Season 2), Courtney Lapresi (Season 5), Gerron Hurt (Season 9), Whitney Miller (Season 1), Dino Angelo Luciano (Season 8) and Shaun O’Neale (Season 7).
The absence of fellow Season 10 contestants Sarah Faherty of San Diego and Nick Digiovanni from Rhode Island in the picture was the tip-off.
Hunter, from Cartersville, Georgia, is the first black woman to win the competition, coming to the podium in the show’s 200th episode. She wins $250,000 for a menu that included seared sea scallops with cornmeal tuille, sweet corn puree and pickled Swiss chard, an entree of Applewood smoked short rib with potato and...
