“The Jennifer Hudson Show” will return for its sophomore season Monday after delaying its premiere due to the WGA strike, which officially came to an end earlier this week.
The host will welcome guests including Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan, Taye Diggs and Cedric the Entertainer, among others, for the daytime talk show’s first week back on air.
After delaying its initial premiere scheduled for Monday, Sept. 18, the talker joins a slew of other daytime talk shows that are resuming production following the resolution of the writers’ strike, including “The Drew Barrymore Show,” which is expected to return in October. The comedian shared of what the dynamic was like between her and DeGeneres as “two rising comics in the scene,” “It was a good relationship. We were friends. We supported each other. Which is why when she came on my show, I said, ‘Let me not have you standing there by yourself. Let’s get a joke in there.’ And we sat down and came up with that, ‘Oh my God, I love Casey Kasem. Warner Bros. Discovery announced Wednesday that its freshman entry, The Jennifer Hudson Show, would be back on Fox TV Stations for a season two next fall. Warner Bros. Discovery’s “The Jennifer Hudson Show” will return for a second season on Fox television stations this fall, Mike Darnell, President of Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, announced on Wednesday.

A Season 2 pick-up this early on proves that this show is here to stay,” said Darnell in a statement.
While he was effusive in his praise for the Egot winner, no one was more emotional than Hudson herself. Roku is getting into the daytime talk show space — sort of. Starting December 1, the Roku Channel will stream full episodes of “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” a Warner Bros. and Telepictures syndicated series, the day after they air on linear television. The deal makes Roku the exclusive streaming home to the Egot winner’s new talk series; all previously aired episodes of the show are now available to stream for free on The Roku Channel.
Hudson’s talk show, a mix of celebrity interviews, topical stories, community heroes, viral sensations, and yes, music, has been a pretty strong freshman performer. Among the six new syndicated strips in their first run, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” is a close second to “Sherri,” averaging a 0.6 household rating versus Sherri Shepherd’s 0.7, according to Nielsen data. Shepherd, an alum of “The View,” basically took over for Wendy Williams last season and launched her own new show this fall.

The Roku Channel has now become the exclusive AVOD streaming home for The Jennifer Hudson Show.
All previously aired episodes are available beginning Thursday, and new episodes will hit the platform the day after they air.
“The authentic spirit that Jennifer Hudson brings to each episode of the series has already won over the hearts of audiences across the country, and we look forward to extending its viewership potential further to the millions of streamers reached by The Roku Channel,” said Rob Holmes, VP, Programming, Roku.
Finding additional avenues on other platforms has become crucial for high-end syndicated talk shows to survive in the current economic environment, which has been increasingly challanging for first-run fare.
Warner Bros.’ freshman The Jennifer Hudson Show got to a respectable start this fall and is currently looking good to be renewed for Season 2 by its core station group, the Fox Stations.

On the first episode of Jennifer Hudson’s new talk show, guest Simon Cowell was very gently criticizing the series “American Idol,” on which he had been a judge and Hudson had been a contestant. Remarking how he found the producers’ assignment for her to sing a Barry Manilow song (which she did the week she was sent home) to be unfair to her and outdated, Cowell generated the first semblance of real heat on the episode. Here was something, perhaps, with the frisson and excitement of real conversation. Hudson let it sit there, allowing a couple moments of silence before remarking “Simon being Simon,” then trailing off.
This first episode began with a run-through of Hudson’s career achievements: From the sorrow of her “Idol” elimination during Barry Manilow Week to her casting in “Dreamgirls,” for which she would win an acting Oscar, to her successful recording career. Hudson...

‘The Jennifer Hudson Show’ Producer Promises Music – Just Not How You Might Expect (Fall TV Preview)
Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson heads to daytime television on Monday, with the launch of “The Jennifer Hudson” show. And according to Andy Lassner, one of the show’s executive producers, what the “American Idol” alum brings to her take on talk TV is a universal relatability.
“I think what’s important with her is that she appeals to everybody, because she has a story of perseverance,” Lassner, who spoke to TheWrap on behalf of the EP team that also includes Mary Connelly and Corey Palent for our Fall TV Preview, said. “There’s something about her that no matter how you know her, you root for her. … Jennifer Hudson is someone that the public roots for. They want to watch her succeed.”

Jennifer Hudson is kicking off her daytime talk show with a blast from the past! On Friday, it was announced that the Egot winner will reunite with former “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell on the series premiere of “The Jennifer Hudson Show”. The reunion will be the pair’s first sit-down conversation since she placed seventh on season 3 of the singing competition series in 2004.
Last month, Hudson told Dallas station Kera-tv that Cowell would be her dream guest, saying that it would be “awesome” to reunite with the Idol judge who helped her get her start.
“I think it would be so interesting,” she explained. “‘Idol’ was 18 years ago so why not? I think people will be interested who’ve followed my journey for 20 years. See us sit down and see us have a conversation. I think that would be awesome to do.”

Jennifer Hudson is coming to daytime this fall with the launch of “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on Fox Television Stations.

NBC and Ellen DeGeneres will not be teaming up again for another season of fun and games. “Ellen’s Game of Games,” which has aired on the network for four seasons, has been canceled, Variety has confirmed. This coincides with the conclusion of the comedian’s award-winning daytime talk show, slated to end this upcoming spring with Season 19.
DeGeneres served as host and executive producer of the one-hour alternative series, which included supersized versions of some of the most popular games from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” The series also features Stephen “tWitch” Boss who, with DeGeneres, oversaw the contestants playing different games over four rounds. The winner of each round advanced to the “Know or Go” stage, and the winner of that round proceeded to “Hot Hands” for a chance to win a $100,000 cash prize.
The move to end the spinoff series isn’t entirely surprising, given that DeGeneres’ current contract ends this year.

Exclusive: Ellen DeGeneres’ game show Ellen’s Game of Games is not coming back to NBC.
Deadline understands that the fourth season of the unscripted primetime series will be its last on the network.
The series launched with an eight-episode order in 2017 and its fourth season, which debuted in October 2020 and ran through May 2021, featured 20 episodes.
The family friendly format had previously been a strong performer for the network – tying for fourth among all primetime entertainment programs on broadcast with kids and ranking as primetime’s number one game show in 2019.
However, last year, the show lost a sizeable portion of its audience.
It comes as The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which airs on a number of NBC-owned affiliate stations, is ending later this spring with its 19th season.

However, due to a giardia outbreak during the water-based game show’s production, NBC ultimately decided to nix the premiere. The network has no plans for a new premiere date for Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide at this point.
The reality game show series pits Bell and Shepard against one another as they are “adopted” into a family of four competing for $100,000 in a series of fun-filled and larger-than-life games.

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are about to test their marital bonds by teaming up professionally to host — and compete on — NBC’s new one-hour game show “Family Game Fight.”
The 10-episode series is inspired by Bell and Shepard’s “antics” on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which is where the married couple revealed the news of the show on Wednesday. Watch them make the announcement with Ellen DeGeneres, who will executive produce the series, in the video above.
NBC describes “Family Game Fight” as testing “brains, brawn and family bonds,” with each episode of the series seeing Shepard and Bell “part ways and be ‘adopted’ into a family of four as they compete in a series of insanely fun games with a big cash prize up for grabs.”
“For one of our first dates, I invited Dax over for a game night at my house with a bunch of friends,...

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are teaming up on-screen again, this time for a new one-hour game show entitled “Family Game Fight” for NBC.
The broadcast network has ordered 10 episodes of the new series that will feature Bell and Shepard as both hosts and competitors. Each episode will see Bell and Shepard be “adopted” into individual families of four to compete in a series of games with a big cash prize up for grabs. NBC has not yet announced the specific amount of that cash prize.
“For one of our first dates, I invited Dax over for a game night at my house with a bunch of friends,” Bell said. “He said he fell in love with me there because I was a very tiny person bossing everyone around. I fell in love with him too because he’s a very large person who could boss everyone around, but chooses not to.

Ellen DeGeneres returned to television on Jan. 13 and used the opening monologue of “Ellen” to explain how she learned about her positive Covid-19 diagnosis on set, which caused production on the daytime show to halt.
“I was getting ready to tape the show, and I was in hair and makeup, getting my face powdered and my extensions put in, and then my assistant, Craig, walks in and said, ‘You’ve tested positive for Covid,'” DeGeneres said. “And then everyone around me ran away. It’s funny, people just really get scared and they ran. Some have not come back since. So anyway, I left the studio immediately and our Covid safety team informed everyone I had been in contact with. They told [executive producer] Andy Lassner and he ran at full speed off the lot, which is amazing — I didn’t realize you could run.”

A live studio audience will once again fill the seats on set of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
Starting with the Oct. 28 show, 40 fans will be seated in the talk show’s audience section alongside 70 virtual attendees. The return to live audiences may be happening just in time for the show’s Halloween week, but strict pandemic-related health and safety protocols will help ensure that the coronavirus gives no added spooks to guests.
Audience members will also be invited to the Oct. 30 Halloween episode, which has been known to feature host Ellen DeGeneres decked out in a custom costume. Last year she did a spin on Cardi B, aptly calling the costumed version of herself Cardi E, while other costumes have spoofed Sia, the Kardashians and Snooki’s hair.
Other Halloween traditions will also be featured throughout Halloween week, including clips of executive producer Andy Lassner attempting to work his way through a haunted house.
