The NBC sitcom, Community developed a cult following as it received acclaim for its meta-humor, acting, and direction among other elements. Even though the show faced major setbacks, it eventually revived itself, thus sustaining its audience in the long run. But, a lot allegedly happened behind the scenes involving Chevy Chase, who has long been rumored to be difficult to work with.

Donald Glover is busy, apparently so busy as per fans that the Community movie, based on the hit NBC drama of the same name, keeps getting delayed due to his busy schedule. Starring as Troy Barnes in the hit TV series, the actor is one of the several lead characters of the show based on the lives of Community college attendees in the fictional town of Greendale.

First announced in 2022 by Peacock, the movie is yet to start filming. And several fans believe it is because of Glover and his busy schedule that is allegedly causing repeated delays. Even after the Mr. and Mrs. Smith star revealed it is not his fault that the movie hasn’t begun filming, fans refuse to believe him.

Throughout its six season run, "Community" encountered a genuinely impressive set of challenges. First of all, series creator, Dan Harmon, was kicked off his own show, which considering his behavior wasn't all that shocking. An admitted heavy drinker, Harmon also became notorious for what The Hollywood Reporter referred to as his "eleventh-hour rewrites, or 'Harmon passes,'" which he would foist upon the cast and crew during filming. Harmon also fell out with star Chevy Chase, and the show was known for its long shooting days and erratic schedule. No wonder Alison Brie described the "Community" set as "frantic, frenetic, chaotic"
Then, there was the constant threat of cancellation, which loomed over "Community" until the show was actually canceled by NBC after its fifth season. Yahoo's then-new streaming service, Yahoo! Screen, picked up the show for its sixth and final season that seemed destined to fail. And fail it did.

Six seasons and a movie -- it's finally happening!
A Community movie is apparently in the works, with star Joel McHale stating the film will begin shooting in 2024.
It's been nine years since we last saw our favorite Greendale Human Beings, and we have a lot of questions about the upcoming film. Here's everything we know so far about the Community movie.
Community Movie Release Date
There has been a lot of back and forth about whether a Community movie would ever be made. With the famous "six seasons and a movie" line from the show, fans have long held out hope.
In September 2022, Peacock ordered a Community movie. However, series creator Dan Harmon later expressed concern that the movie wouldn't happen at all despite being "nearly done" with the script.
In January 2023, Joel McHale said the movie would be filming that summer, but production was canceled due to the actor and writer strikes.

“Community” creator Dan Harmon is inching closer to the finish line for the “movie” portion of his “Six Seasons and a Movie” prophecy.
Following up on former “Community” star Donald Glover’s recent assertion that a script is already in the can, Harmon told Variety that it was almost right. According to Harmon, he’s “almost done” working on the script for the highly-anticipated film, which is set to run on NBCU’s Peacock streaming service.
“I can confirm Donald Glover’s report that I told him the script was done, but I will also say Donald’s sources are so unreliable because the script is always ‘almost done,'” Harmon quipped. “What can I tell you about it — it’s set on the campus of Greendale Community College. I’m super excited about it, and we’re almost done.”

In honor of beloved NBC sitcom Community and its upcoming movie spinoff, let’s begin with some Remedial Chaos Theory. Without the release of a tepidly-received action comedy in 2005, you wouldn’t be reading this article right now.
That’s because if the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie-starring film Mr. and Mrs. Smith didn’t premiere 20 years ago, then there wouldn’t be a TV version starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine today. And if there’s no 2024 Mr. and Mrs. Smith then we wouldn’t get a very honest and open Donald Glover on a press tour, eagerly answering every question about the Community movie that comes his way.
Truly, the Troy Barnes actor has been an open book when it comes to his involvement in the Community movie of late. Just last week he confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that he was “all in” on the film...

As much as they've become a go-to option, revivals and legacy sequels tend to have a pretty significant roadblock working against them. The more time goes by, the harder it gets to justify bringing back the same cast to relive their glory days without it feeling ... kind of sad, actually. It's like that one guy everyone knows who peaked during his high school or college years and hasn't been able to move past it ever since. That takes on an added layer of relevance (and potential awkwardness) with the much-hyped "Community" spin-off movie, which has tasked original series creator Dan Harmon with figuring out how to make this continuation live up to expectations. Given the fact that the entire point of the comedy was the ridiculousness of having these characters together in the world's worst community college, well, maybe that's exactly what makes the movie worth doing.

Though it’s based on a 2005 movie of the same name, Prime Video’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith is something that’s increasingly rare these days: an honest-to-goodness TV show. The Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane-created spy thriller understands the required rhythms of its medium very well. Each episode presents a self-contained chapter within the dangerous marriage of John (Glover) and Jane Smith (Maya Erskine) while also subtly forwarding their overall story.
The commitment to the usual TV format also means that Mr. and Mrs. Smith gets to introduce one hell of a roster of guest stars. Save for its finale, every episode of this show features at least one stupendously talented and famous guest star. If you’re wondering who each of these guest stars are or where you’ve previously seen them: don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. What follows is a list of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith cast,...

Character departures are inevitable for most shows.
That doesn't mean we have to like them. Sometimes, a character has to go because it's necessary for the story.
Other times, the actor moves on to a new role, and the character can't continue without them.
Now and then, a character's time on a show comes to an end in a way that leaves us brokenhearted and feeling betrayed by the writers.
These exits took us by surprise, and not in a good way.

It’s been a long road to get to the fabled Community movie. What started as a “six seasons and a movie” in-joke amongst fans became something more concrete when Sony Pictures TV and Peacock jointly announced that they would begin production on a Community film, helmed by original creator Dan Harmon.
Of course, then some stuff happened: most notably the dual SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. While the entertainment industry’s actors and writers were eventually able to negotiate an equitable deal for their work, the twin disruptions effectively shut down Hollywood for months, jeopardizing many projects.
Getting the now-very successful cast of Community back together was always going to be a logistical challenge even under the most stable of circumstances. Did you think only Zack Snyder admirers could basically will an entire movie into existence? Think again. For almost 10 years, "Six seasons and a movie!" has been the rallying cry for one of the most passionate fanbases the internet has ever seen. "Community" may not have ever been the ratings hit that it deserved to be, sure, but the niche comedy created by Dan Harmon cultivated its own unique -- and very vocal -- following throughout the years, nonetheless. And ever since the brilliant, genre-jumping series came to an end in 2015, viewers have patiently waited for any and all updates on a potential movie in the works.

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is shaping up to be one of the biggest movies of the year. The film, which hit theaters on June 2, grossed $120.5 million at the domestic box office in its opening weekend, putting it just behind "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," which debuted with $146 million. Besides its animation, story, and representation, "Across the Spider-Verse" will be remembered for pushing the boundaries of the multiverse in Marvel films.
While "Spider-Man: No Way Home" brought three iconic live-action versions of the web-slinging superhero together, "Across the Spider-Verse" reportedly included over 250 versions of the beloved character - this time, both in animated and live-action form. Seeing so many Spider-People in one movie was definitely exciting, but perhaps the biggest crowd-cheering moment of all was when Donald Glover's version of the Prowler came on screen. Here's why.
What Is Donald Glover's Connection to the "Spider-Man" Franchise?
Glover actually has a long history with "Spider-Man.

It is not uncommon for actors to have ties to directors or certain types of roles. In the case of Donald Glover, it goes a bit further and extends to a connection with a franchise and character. There is an interesting link between Glover, Marvel comics, and the Spider-Man character. This is explored in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. This connection dates to as far back as his days playing Troy Barnes on the TV show, Community. For the longest time, Glover had wanted to be part of the Spider-Man franchise, either as a villain or hero. In the years that...

Community really is the little show that could. After airing on NBC for five seasons, where it was under a near-constant threat of cancellation, the comedy series finally got the axe. Thankfully, Yahoo! came to the rescue on the day that the cast’s contracts were set to expire and ordered a 13-episode sixth season. The dream of “six seasons and a movie” was finally realized when Peacock announced last year that they were developing a Community movie, but Joel McHale has now confirmed that the project has been delayed just as filming was about to begin.
Joel McHale told TVLine that the Community movie was due to start shooting this month, but production was put on hold due to the Writers Guild strike. “That was a bummer, because we were getting very close,” McHale said. “But at the same time, I’m a thousand billion percent behind the writers.

What set "Community" apart from nearly every other sitcom was its concept episodes that either parodied, homaged, or commented on the tropes of various popular films and television shows. You have "Contemporary American Poultry," which sees the main study group creating a chicken finger mafia in the style of "Goodfellas." You have "Basic Lupine Urology," which parodies "Law & Order" as the gang investigates a sabotaged science class experiment involving a yam. Then, of course, you have the paintball episodes, which call to mind everything from "28 Days Later" to "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."
My personal favorite episode of "Community" features none of this. "Mixology Certification" is the tenth episode of the second season, and it's simply about the characters going to a local bar to celebrate Donald Glover's Troy Barnes turning 21 years old. For a brilliant and wildly entertaining series, "Community" went through a lot of ups and downs. The show had season premiere delays and times when it was taken off the schedule, leading fans to extreme campaigns, such as flash mobs singing "O' Christmas Troy" and a whole lot of #sixseasonsandamovie hashtags sent to NBC executives and social media accounts. The sixth season wasn't even on NBC but ended up on a new streaming platform Yahoo! was trying to get off the ground (and which subsequently crashed).

Actor and producer Donald Glover starred on Community for years, playing the role of the beloved Troy Barnes. The show amassed quite a cult following in its six seasons, earning some impressive ratings at times. In fact, the show worked so well that the cast is currently wrapping up production on the Community movie.
But believe it or not, Glover was blissfully unaware of the show’s popularity when he was on it, at least at first. It took a trip over the Canadian border for him to realize he was famous.

One thing you could always count on while "Community" was on the air -- or during your pandemic rewatch -- was a fantastic scene-ending line from Donald Glover's Troy Barnes. There was something just right about his scene outro quips or observations that were the perfect button. In fact, "Community" creator Dan Harmon has stated that his favorite improv line was Glover's "I have the weirdest boner" in season 1, episode 15, "Romantic Expression" after Britta (Gillian Jacobs) and Jeff (Joel McHale) try to convince him that Annie (Alison Brie) is the person he should be dating.
Glover left the series in the fifth season to work on his musical career as Childish Gambino. He's done, oh, one or two other things in addition to that, like winning two Emmy Awards; creating, starring in, and directing a number of episodes of "Atlanta"; playing Lando Calrissian in "Solo: A Star Wars Story...

Back in September 2022, the “six seasons and a movie” prophecy was fulfilled when Sony Pictures TV and Peacock jointly announced a Community movie. A proper cinematic conclusion to the beloved NBC sitcom was welcome news to the show’s cultish fanbase. But some questions about the project still lingered. Questions like: who is gonna be in this gosh darn thing?
The announcement specifically mentioned Joel McHale (who plays Jeff Winger), Danny Pudi (Abed Nadir), Allison Brie (Annie Edison), Gillian Jacobs (Britta Perry), Jim Rash (Dean Craig Pelton), and Ken Jeong (Señor Ben Chang) but that still left some notable faces absent. It was a good bet that estranged actor Chevy Chase and his definitively deceased character Pierce Hawthorne wouldn’t be making the jump to Peacock. What about Donald Glover’s Troy Barnes though?

It's been almost 10 years since "Community" went off the air, but many of us spent the years of the pandemic doing a rewatch or three or four. There is just something comforting about seeing a bunch of screwups with a whole lot of heart improvising their way through life, community college, and romance. They mess everything up pretty consistently, just like the rest of us, but in an absurdist way.
Though the show took a few episodes to really find its groove, turning the updated stock characters into beloved weirdos, it was clear by partway through the first season that creator Dan Harmon and the gang were onto something. When famed rapper Donald Glover decided to make a show about rappers, he made a lot of unconventional choices. Perhaps his strangest creative decision was casting the actor Brian Tyree Henry as a rapper, Alfred (a.k.a. Paper Boi), instead of himself. "Atlanta" features a number of songs from Paper Boi, but neither Henry nor Glover performs these raps. Believe it or not, they're written and performed by Donald Glover's brother, Stephen Glover, who is also a writer and executive producer for the series.

Donald Glover has been thinking about stories lately… and death. But mostly stories.
The creator, lead writer, and star of FX’s Atlanta has been crafting stories for most of his adult life. After getting his start in comedy as part of the internet sketch group Derrick Comedy at NYU, Glover was hired by Tina Fey to join the writing staff of 30 Rock at age 23.
