What is the world of rap without feuds? Well, the music world is on fire as of late, as Drake and Kendrick Lamar have spent the better part of the last month and a half throwing diss tracks at one another in a constant stream. That’s right, we now have a Pulitzer Prize winner in a rap war…Damn.
Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been going at it for over a decade at this point. Even though they formerly collaborated on a number of projects in the early 2010s, their partnership, like so many in the rap world, fell apart. While the first diss track came sometime back in 2013, the clash between Drake and Kendrick Lamar is at an all-time high. The trigger for this thread goes back to March’s “Like That”, in which Lamar distanced himself from his former friend. Drake hit back the following month on...

Exclusive: Filming has recently wrapped in Morocco on under-the-radar biblical thriller Mary, starring Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins as King Herod and emerging Israeli actress Noa Cohen as Mary.
In coming-of-age story Mary, the title character is shunned following the otherworldly conception of her child and forced into hiding. King Herod’s relentless drive to maintain power at any cost ignites the murderous pursuit of the newborn child that he believes is a threat to his reign on the throne. The film sees the young Mary and Joseph on the run and having to hide their baby, Jesus, at all costs.
The director is DJ Caruso (xXx: Return of Xander Cage), and the pic is produced by Mary Aloe, founder of Aloe Entertainment (Bruised), and Hannah Leader (Freud’s Last Session). Producing alongside were financiers Gillian Hormel (Bruised) of Ludascripts and Joshua Harris of PeachTree Media Partners (Not Without Hope).

“Bad Faith: Christian Nationalism’s Unholy War on Democracy” is the scariest film I’ve seen in a long time. It’s a documentary that explores the rise of Christian Nationalism, and much of what it shows you, about the mutation of the Christian Right into a movement that’s openly abandoned any loyalty to democracy, has been covered in the mass media in recent years. But the film’s directors, Stephen Ujlaki and Chris Jones, go deep into the roots of this movement, and what’s new and disquieting is how the current presidential race changes everything. Viewed against the looming possibility of Donald Trump’s re-election (a scenario that most liberals I know believe is unlikely; I think they may be seriously deluded), the rise of Christian Nationalism takes on a whole new meaning.
In 2017, Trump, once he took the reins of power, was constrained — by the other branches of government,...

Alejandro Monteverde’s last movie, the wildly profitable Christian thriller “Sound of Freedom,” was dogged by accusations that its anti-trafficking hero was himself guilty of fraud and grooming — a tough break for a piece of conspiracy-driven Maga theology that purported to shine a light on the secret cabal of sex criminals who are hiding in plain sight. Monteverde presumably had no way of knowing that Tim Ballard would become the target of a criminal investigation and get ousted from the very organization that “Sound of Freedom” exists to valorize, but his follow-up feature — shot in 2021 — seems designed to avoid any hint of a similar controversy.
Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini may not have been as pure and perfect a soul as Monteverde’s biopic imagines she was, but the director can rest easy in the knowledge that his newest subject is a literal saint. At this point, more than a century after Cabrini’s death,...

Amid heightened security measures, Pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church welcomed back its congregation today in the first services since a woman opened fire inside the Houston megachurch on Super Bowl Sunday.
In a video posted to X ahead of the services, Osteen said today’s two services marked a time of healing and restoration for his church’s community. “This Sunday, we’re gonna have special services- time of healing and restoration, time of praise and thanksgiving, just thanking God for his angels for watching after us,” Osteen said.
“Hello Lakewood family, we want to tell you how much we love you and how much we been praying for you,” Osteen said. “Yes, it’s been a difficult week, something we never dreamed we would have to deal with, but we look back now and we see the faithfulness of God- how he protected and watched over us.”

The incident sent worshippers rushing from the building between busy Sunday services, authorities said.
Police said the woman entered the church with a 5-year-old boy shortly before 2 p.m. The woman began shooting, as officers at the scene “engaged” her and the woman was killed. The 5-year-old was hit in the exchange of gunfire and critically injured, although no immediate details were released on how the confrontation unfolded.
Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said it was not clear whether the child was struck by the off-duty officers who returned fire. He said a 57-year-old man also was shot and wounded.

A plumber doing repair work last month at televangelist Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas discovered a reported $600k in cash and checks stuffed in envelopes. The funds are believed to be part of a 2014 robbery at the venue.
The plumber revealed his story Thursday to Houston radio station Kilt-fm, according to a report from the city’s Kprc-tv. The caller claimed to have found hundreds of envelopes of cash and checks hidden in a wall inside the church, where he was repairing a loose toilet.
Police were called to the scene on Nov. 10. according to a statement from the Houston Police Department.
“Church members stated that during a renovation project, a large amount of money — including cash, checks and money orders — was found inside a wall,” the statement said. The dates on the checks indicated that the envelopes are connected to a March 9, 2014 reported theft of money from the church.

In “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” Andrew Garfield and Jessica Chastain play Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, the self-styled Christian TV personalities who did more than anyone else to mold televangelism into a game-changing, culture-shaking, credit-card-maxing industry/cult/diversion. The movie, which is a ticklishly fascinating rise-and-fall saga, was directed by Michael Showalter, who almost always makes comedies, so you might expect him to treat the Bakker saga as a delicious slice of kitsch — which, in a sense, it was.
There’s a bit of that, but Showalter is up to something more sly, and maybe more artful. In “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” he gives Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker the full dignity — and scandal — of their humanity. He knows that a lot of people think of the Bakkers as walking caricatures, and that in the case of Tammy Faye, with her infamous troweled-on ’60s-raccoon-from-Maybelline clown-freak makeup, she verged on self-parody.

Joel Osteen is being raked across the coals after his appearance on Monday’s “Today” episode, during which he remarked that in order to live happier lives, people should focus on all the things they have, rather than what they lack. Osteen’s advice came as he promoted his new book, “Peaceful on Purpose.”
When asked by “Today” hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb about how he maintains a peaceful state of mind each day, Osteen stated that it all comes down to starting the day with gratitude.
“I think you need to have some time to just come back to a place of peace where you’re grateful,” Osteen added. “Think about what’s right, not what’s wrong. Focus on what you do have, not what you don’t have.”

The 43-year-old rapper and presidential hopeful held his Sunday Service in Fayetteville, Ga. with guests that included his wife, Kim Kardashian, their kids, pastor Joel Osteen and many others. Plus, Kanye's 7-year-old daughter, North West, and 4-year-old...

Joel Osteen keeps attracting parishioners to his megachurch — even when no one is allowed to attend service there in person due to the spreading coronavirus pandemic.
This past weekend, Lakewood Church and Joel Osteen Ministries reached “close to” 4.63 million people online, according to the group’s in-house digital manager. That tally, which is not a final number, marks a new record across social channels for Joel’s giant congregation.

Kanye West probably won’t run for president in 2024, but a Biblical opera is as close to a sure thing as the musical mogul gets: Yesterday, West tweeted a golden-hued invitation to Nebuchadnezzar, a “Kanye West opera” set for Sunday, November 24 at the Hollywood Bowl.
The invite/announcement (see it below) indicates the opera will be directed by Vanessa Beecroft, an Italian performance artist, with music by West’s gospel project Sunday Service, Peter Colins and Infinities Song.
Unlike the Sunday Service shows, Nebuchadnezzar will be open to the general public, with the Hollywood Bowl tweeting yesterday that tickets go on sale today (Monday) at noon Pt.
The Biblical Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon circa 605 BC, is known in the Book of Jeremiah as “destroyer of nations.”

HBO’s new comedy series “The Righteous Gemstones,” about a famous family of televangelists whose dysfunction runs far deeper than its Christianity, seems to exist in its own time and place. Set in present-day Texas, the inspiration for the Gemstone family — played by John Goodman, series creator Danny McBride, Edi Patterson and Adam Devine — draws on multiple eras and examples from the televangelist world that includes the likes of Joel Osteen, Billy Graham and Jerry Falwell. And their suits.
“It was a bit of a domino effect,” says costume designer Sarah Trost, who worked with McBride on his previous HBO show, “Vice Principals,” and also costumes NBC’s “A.P. “American Heretics: The Politics of the Gospel” is a documentary about an idea that’s now such a contradiction in American culture that it has come to feel like an oxymoron, or maybe an M.C. Escher brain teaser: liberal Christianity. I mean liberal in the classic sense (per Webster’s: “marked by generosity…associated with ideals of individual especially economic freedom [and] greater individual participation in government”), and I also mean Christianity in the classic sense (the teachings of Jesus Christ). It’s far from counterintuitive to point out that those two things actually fit rather well together.
So why is the political face of Christianity in the United States today exclusively, and dogmatically, Republican? Is it because Jesus himself would have cheered on tax breaks for corporations? Or would have embraced New York Times headlines like “‘There is a Stench’: Soiled Clothes and No Baths for Migrant Children at...

Everyone knows that there's plenty of money to be made in the religion game. Hell, you need only look to the property owned by televangelist Joel Osteen for evidence that there's power in being a purveyor of the Lord's good word. But what happens when men and women of the cloth start pilfering from the collection plate and dipping into the coffers made fat by the generosity…...

Some people might think that looking Joel Osteen would be a good thing, others might see it as anything but. This guy however looks so much like him that he kind of made the most out of it in this clip. There’s enough of a difference there that Osteen’s clsoest relatives and friends would be able to tell the difference between them, but at a glance it could be that this guy would pass muster. Of course when this kind of thing happens you know the guy that looks like ‘the guy’ is going to push the envelope as much

Remember Acorn? Founded in 1970 as a grassroots advocacy group dedicated to supporting low and middle-income Americans in all manner of social issues, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now was only dissolved in 2010, but it might as well have been a million years ago. Of course, that acronym hasn’t lost any of its flavor for the millions of people it helped to defend against the likes of predatory lending and unlivable wages, or for any of the right-wing media types who feverishly smeared and entrapped the consortium as part of their efforts to disenfranchise voters and discredit liberal causes.
If all of this feels like ancient history, that’s probably because it went down prior to the Age of Trump, when something like the Acorn scandal might barely crack the evening news. And yet, Reuben Atlas and Sam Pollard’s convincing but unfocused documentary “Acorn and the Firestorm...

Essentially the “Why We Fight” series for The War on Christmas, the “God’s Not Dead” franchise has — with its first two installments — asserted itself as the chintziest and most intellectually counterfeit branch of the lucrative faith-based film wave that it’s helped to define. Whereas other recent offerings like “Heaven Is for Real” and last week’s “I Can Only Imagine” are largely harmless in how they preach to the choir and prostrate themselves before Evangelical audiences, Pure Flix’s “God’s Not Dead” saga has been defined by a persecution complex large enough to crucify Christ the Redeemer.

Christian movies are ready to cross over. Fourteen years have passed since “The Passion of the Christ” became a national sensation, and while no one has managed to match the hysteria that greeted Mel Gibson’s New Testament snuff film, companies like Pure Flix and Mission Pictures International have cultivated a lucrative cottage industry of cinema for the Focus on the Family crowd. Over and over again, these religious offerings have surprised box office pundits and raked in blockbuster numbers, with everyone from Pat Robertson to Joel Osteen spreading the good word in an effort to close the gap between megachurches and multiplexes.

"Someday you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don't you believe a word of it," Billy, the reverend known as America's Pastor, once said. "I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God." And when Billy passed away at age 99 on Feb. 21, rather than feeling sad, his daughter Ruth Graham, 67, exclusively echoed that sentiment to Closer Weekly. "This really is a glorious day. My father is finally free," she said. As many mourned his passing, plans were set in motion to lay Billy to rest on March 2 on the grounds of the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, Nc next to his beloved wife, Ruth Graham, who passed away in 2007. His coffin, "a simple plywood casket like my mother's," son Franklin Graham explained, "was built by convicted murderers at Angola Prison," where...

If you’re a fan of preacher Joel Osteen you might not want to keep reading. But if you do keep in mind that a prank such as this didn’t truly hurt anything but people’s feelings and in truth kind of exposed just how smitten people are with Osteen in a very misguided way. Why misguided? Honestly it’s a personal opinion, but Osteen is just one more televangelist in search of fame and fortune while claiming to serve the lord and do His work through capitalistic avarice. People can believe whatever they want and that’s okay, because we’re allowed and I

Prank calling Joel Osteen’s Megachurch Prayer Hotline in the voice of Rick Sanchez seems like a bad idea from the get-go. But when he really gets going you can tell that the woman on the other end is pretty flustered. And he keeps going and the others can’t help it as they start busting up. Well, when the woman starts going into what sounds like French and then tongues and then something else that’s impossible to follow. If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if one of the “Rick and Morty” characters placed a call to Joel Osteen’s prayer line, wonder no longer. Justin Roiland, co-creator of the Adult Swim animated series, made an appearance on the H3 podcast this week to raise money for victims of Hurricane Harvey. During the podcast episode, Roiland called the televangelist’s hotline, using the voice of Rick, the soused time-traveler character from “Rick and Morty.” This follows Osteen’s Houston-based Lakewood Church getting hit with criticism last week for not initially opening its doors to those displaced by the storms.

Rick and Morty voice actor Justin Roiland recently was a guest on the H3 podcast. In an effort to help raise money for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, Roiland prank called preacher Joel Osteen's Lakewood Megachrurch in Houston, Texas. He called up the prayer line for the church and got into character as Rick Sanchez. An old woman answered the call and it was followed by complete and utter craziness as the woman started speaking in tongues! Roiland starts speaking in tongues back at her and she just busts up laughing!

Many online video stars are doing what they can to support relief efforts in the Greater Houston area in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, and one of the most powerful of those initiatives has come courtesy of h3h3productions. The husband-and-wife duo behind that channel, Ethan and Hila Klein, launched a live stream on Twitch dedicated to Harvey-related fundraising on September 5. In one day, they were able to collect more than $100,000 in donations from their viewers, and if you'd like to add to that number, there's still time to contribute.

Alex Hirsch, creator of the series Gravity Falls, sat in on the stream alongside Rick & Morty mastermind Justin Roiland.
