Can Manchester City keep up their 100% home record when Crystal Palace visit the Etihad in the Premier League on Saturday?

Manchester City could welcome Matija Nastasic back into the starting line-up following an eight-game lay-off with a calf injury. The Serb was on the bench against Liverpool on Boxing Day.
Top scorer Sergio Aguero has a calf injury of his own and remains out, as do Micah Richards and Stevan Jovetic (both hamstring) while Martin Demichelis is a doubt after pulling up in training.
Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis has no fresh injury concerns.
Midfielders Kagisho Dikgacoi and Stuart O’Keefe are continued doubts after sustaining a knock and a thigh injury, respectively, while long-term absentees Jerome Thomas, Adlène Guédioura and Glenn Murray remain sidelined.

The Eagles are viewed as the Premier League whipping boys this season. With how newly-promoted compatriots Cardiff & Hull City have performed early on this campaign, Palace won’t want to be the only side going straight back down in the Championship. However, with their main striker Marouna Chamakh making just two shots in the 10 games he’s featured in, it certainly highlights what a difficult task the side has to stay in the division.
On the flipside, Everton are pushing for the Europa League places in the league, and finally look to have settled under manager Roberto Martinez. Striker Romelu Lukaku has been to thank for their bright start, as the Belgian striker has five goals in as many league starts for the Toffees this season.

It may surprise you that from the 12 sides promoted to their respective Football League tiers last season, currently only two occupy a relegation spot. It may also surprise you that three of these 12 are in the play-offs. In reality, neither of these facts should shock you; promoted sides often, and are always likely to, do well.
Promotion allows teams to gain a winning mentality which continues throughout much of the next campaign. Momentum does not last forever though; this is often shown by ‘second season syndrome’.
Looking back to last season, the twelve that came up that year were extremely successful as a group. Just one side were relegated to their original league, Reading heading back down into the Championship. Swindon Town managed to rise into the play-offs, whilst Crawley Town and Charlton Athletic were both not far from the leading six in their respective leagues.

Palace will be missing last season’s top scorer Glenn Murray, who is out with a serious knee injury, while Wilfried Zaha has moved to Manchester United following a season in which he was instrumental to Palace’s promotion push, so the goalscoring mantle will likely fall to new signing Marouanne Chamakh. Veteran Kevin Phillips, now in his 40th year, will likely start from the bench.
Captain Paddy McCarthy is back in training but will not be ready for this match, while Yannick Bolasie is also out injured. New signing Jerome Thomas will miss the game with an ankle injury sustained against Lazio last weekend.

A preview of Crystal Palace’s Premier League season including ‘player to watch’ and position prediction.
Crystal Palace
It has hardly been the ideal preparation for their return to the Premier League after an 8 year absence, with manager Ian Holloway becoming increasingly frustrated with the process of player recruitment. Back in the big time, Palace are being linked to a plethora of players on a daily basis. It is hard for fans to get too excited as it is obvious that many of the links are either a result of lazy journalism or agents desperate to get their prized assets in the shop window. In a recent interview following a link with Celtic defender Efe Ambrose, Holloway admitted to not knowing who he was.

Marouane Chamakh is set to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed move to Crystal Palace, according to Team Talk.
The Arsenal striker will become Palace manager Ian Holloway’s sixth signing of the summer with the deal expected to be announced within the next few days.
The structure of the deal is still to be decided though the Moroccan is expected to join the newly-promoted Premier League side permanently, on an initial, season-long contract.
Former Blackpool manager Holloway has admitted that he has found things difficult in the transfer market as he prepares for a second crack at the Premier League after helping the Seasider’s to promotion in 2010.
But he has broken the transfer record at his new club, signing the likes of Stephen Dobbie, Jerome Thomas, Jose Campana and Elliot Grandin, while veteran Kevin Phillips has re-signed for another year.

Venue: The Hawthorns Kick-Off: 3pm
West Brom have had an impressive start to the season under new manager Steve Clarke, and their opponents this week will not be looking forward to their visit to the Hawthorns as they currently prop up the rest of the table.
It appears that so many signings in a short amount of time may have had a detrimental affect on Mark Hughe’s squad, and after his promise to the fans of not being involved in a relegation dog-fight this time around, he will be hoping that those words do not come back to haunt him. It does not look pretty for Qpr at the minute, with the team having conceded the second most goals (13) behind Southampton (18) so far this term, and added with the weight of history against them – Hughes has never won a match at the Baggies as a manager – the omens do not look good.

Although Arsenal have stuttered in recent weeks, they have the chance to erase miserable early season memories with Champions League qualification.
The Gunners are third in the Premier League with 67 points – leading Spurs by one and Newcastle by two. This was unimaginable after their worst start to a season in 58 years. After an 8-2 drubbing against Manchester United, and a 4-3 loss against now relegated Blackburn, they were 15th at the start of October.
A win in their final game, away to West Brom, will seal third place and Champions League football. A draw or loss could mean relegation to the Europa League. Normally fourth place would be enough to seal a place in the Champions League, but if Chelsea win this year’s competition, they would effectively steal that spot.
If Arsenal slip up the implications could be severe. Should Arsenal not qualify for the Champions League, they would...

Team news ahead of Manchester City vs West Brom in the Premier League tonight. Kick-off time is at 7.45pm…
Controversial striker Mario Balotelli is suspended after picking up a red card against Arsenal and given manager Roberto Mancini’s recent comments may have played his last game for the club. Balotelli’s absence could open the way for another controversial striker to push for a start in the line-up is Carlos Tevez after four successive appearances off the bench.
Influential midfielder Yaya Toure is expected to sit out with a knee injury after he limped off on Sunday at the Emirates. A slightly lesser doubt is winger David Silva who is struggling with a knee injury.
For West Brom, Chris Brunt and Liam Ridgewell are both out with knee injuries. Paul Scharner and Nicky Shorey could replace them.
Also missing are winger Jerome Thomas, midfielders James Morrison and Zoltan Gera...

Team news ahead of one of only two Premier League fixtures this weekend as Wigan take on West Brom at the Dw Stadium. Kick-off is at 3pm and the match is not being screened live anywhere in the UK.
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is sweating on the fitness of striker Hugo Rodallega who picked up a knock to his knee in last week’s 1-1 draw against Norwich. He will undergo a late fitness test as will midfielder Albert Crusat who injured his toe in training this week.
Goalkeeper Mike Pollitt is still about a fortnight away from being available following shoulder injury.
Midfielder David Jones misses out with a knee injury.
For West Brom, defender Jonas Olsson is banned having being sent off against Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend. Gareth McAuley will pair with either Gabriel Tamas or Craig Dawson at centre-back. Right full-back Billy Jones should...

Team news ahead of Sunday afternoon’s Premier League encounter at Old Trafford as Manchester United and West Brom lock horns. Kick-off time is at 2pm and the match is not being screened live anywhere in the UK.
After being rested for the surprise Thursday night Europa League defeat from Athletic Bilbao, veteran Paul Scholes is expected to play some part today and is contention for a starting eleven place.
That game midweek also led to defender Chris Smalling re-opening the nasty head wound he sustained on England duty against Holland. Sir Alex Ferguson is taking the head injury as extremely serious and if there are any doubts about Smalling’s condition he simply won’t play.
Better news for the Red Devils comes with midfielder Tom Cleverley being welcomed back into the fold as he has recovered from an ankle injury. Michael Owen however is still a little way away from recovery.

Peter Odemwingie stole the show with a hat-trick as West Brom demolished a hapless Wolves side 5-1 at Molineux, in the Premier League’s fourth Black Country derby.
The Baggies dominated the match from start to finish but Wolves had somehow gone in at half time level after Stephen Fletcher’s excellent finish cancelled out Odemwingie’s opening goal. Wolves came into the game in the second half but it was West Brom who regained the lead after an error from the otherwise outstanding Wayne Hennessey allowed Jonas Olsson’s shot over the line.
As the home side pushed for an equaliser they left themselves vulnerable at the back. Odemwingie grabbed his second from a corner before Keith Andrews’ deflected shot made it four. And Odemwingie claimed his first hat-trick of the season when he finished off an excellent counter attacking move.
Despite a hostile atmosphere at Molineux, West Brom...

In a fixture that could put some real clearing distance between both teams and the relegation zone, Swansea City make the trip to the midlands to face West Brom at the Hawthorns.
If you look at the home and away form of these two teams it makes for what seems to be an even encounter. West Brom hold the third worst home form in the league whilst Swansea hold the title of worst form on the road.
The last time these two teams met it signalled not only Swansea’s first Premier League victory but also their first Premier League goals after they broke a 4 game goal drought at the start of the season. Brendan Rodgers’ boys secured the win with a 3-0 scoreline so Roy Hodgson will no doubt be looking for some revenge in the reverse fixture.

West Bromwich Albion welcome Norwich City to the Hawthorns this afternoon on the back of a 4-2 win over Cardiff in the Fa Cup, but with just one point from their last three Premier League outings (though it was against Manchester City). Norwich too despatched Championship opposition in the cup – recording a comfortable 4-1 win over Burnley at Carrow Road. Many are expecting them to start slipping any time now – ‘doing a Blackpool’ seems to be the official expression for any team that dares to still be punching above their weight at Christmas nowadays, and we all know what happened there. Canaries fans will know though that their side have yet to experience any real torrid times under maestro Paul Lambert.
So how will the game go this afternoon? Well, the Baggies got the better of the Canaries last time out – seeing out a 1-0 win courtesy of a Peter Odemwingie goal.

Arsenal head into this clash against their Midlands opponents off a wonderful victory over rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and a solid display against Marseille on home soil in the Champions League midweek. Current Premier League top scorer Robin van Persie will be the dangerman for the Gunners this afternoon as he already has ten goals this season, including a hat-trick against Chelsea last weekend. Arsenal have won eight out of their last nine matches in all competitions and are improving at home. They will be favourties to win this one against the Baggies.
Albion actually picked up a shock result against Arsene Wenger’s side last term as they left The Emirates with a 3-2 victory under their belt. Goals from Peter Odemwingie, Gonzalo Jara and Jerome Thomas, a former Arsenal player, sealed the win for the Throstles. This shows West Brom are no pushovers and can beat the very best on their day.
