John Legend has revealed he had to negotiate with a porn producer over the use of his stage name.
The Grammy-winning singer’s real name is John Stephens, having adopted the sobriquet early in his career.
Appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show on Saturday (8 April), Legend, explained: “I was born John Stephens. A friend of mine started calling me John Legend. Kanye [West] kind of blew it up when he put it on one of his recordings.
“When I was deciding whether to go out as John Legend or John Stephens, I thought, ‘Legend – it’ll make a statement before I even show up’.”
He then learned that there was another showbiz figure who already went by the name Johnny Legend – a porn producer.
“I’ve never met him before,” he continued. “My manager, we had to clear the trademark. He reached out and negotiated a deal.

John Legend review, Royal Albert Hall: This no-frills, intimate concert shows the singer at his best
“We’re gonna get to know each other better tonight,” John Legend promises his audience, speaking smoothly over an easy piano melody. Billed as An Evening with John Legend, tonight’s concept is simple: just Legend, his voice, his life story and a piano. It’s a bold choice to stage an entire two-act Royal Albert Hall show alone with no accompaniment, but if there’s anyone who can keep an audience entertained for two hours, it’s Legend. His agile voice and virtuoso pianist skills shine when left to stand alone, even if the bare-bones nature of the staging is a little startling.

The 2023 Grammy Awards returned to the Crypto.com Arena on Sunday evening, and while Beyoncé made history by breaking the record for the most Grammy wins of all time, Harry Styles took home Album of the Year for his album “Harry’s House.” Styles also won Best Pop Vocal Album.
Beyoncé took home four awards, bringing her career total to 32 — enough to unseat composer Georg Solti as the winningest artist of all time. But this marks the fourth time in a row she’s lost Album of the Year. An astonishing fact for the Grammy record-holder.
Bonnie Raitt pulled an upset in Song of the Year for “Just Like That,” besting the likes of Lizzo, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.

HBO Max is clearing out all of its live-action DC Comics scripted original series.
The Warner Bros. Discovery-backed streamer has canceled Pennyworth, the prequel show about Batman’s famed butler. The series wrapped its third and now final season Nov. 24.
The drama starring Jack Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth was created by Gotham creator Bruno Heller (who also served as showrunner). Pennyworth hailed from Warner Bros. Television and was developed for the MGM-backed premium cable network Epix (which is now known as MGM+). In a bid to reduce programming costs, the series was sold to HBO Max and paired with fellow DC series Doom Patrol and Titans on the platform. MGM+ still has the option to air the third season, though that seems highly unlikely even at a reduced licensing fee.

Holy “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butler,” Batman! Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler recently kicked off its third season on HBO Max (after initially launching on Epix) with a five-year time jump that inches the action that much closer to a universe where costumed villains run amok. “We’re moving from a kind of ’50s world through the ’60s world and we’re now in the ’70s, I guess you’d say,” offers exec-producer Bruno Heller. “And that is when things start going a little crazy.” He ain’t lying. The season premiere introduced us to Pwe — People With Enhancements — like a guy with a robotic arm who could very easily evolve into the kind of high-tech terror we’re used to seeing on the streets of Gotham. Heller and co-ep John Stephens joined series stars Jack Bannon and Ben Aldridge, who play Alfred Pennyworth and Thomas Wayne,...

Did you know that Batman's famous and devout Butler, Alfred Pennyworth, has his own spy show on HBO Max (after airing on Epix) from the creators of "Gotham"? And it's on season 3? Maybe the recent extended retitling of "Pennyworth" to "Pennyworth: The Origins of Batman's Butler" could alert you to that.
In 1960s London with alternative sameish-but-different history, former British Sas soldier, Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon) sought to found his own security company. He later ends up working for young billionaire Thomas Wayne. In season 2, Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) marries Martha Kane (Emma Paetz) and she gives birth to their daughter (in a curveball for Batman fans who were expecting to see Bruce Wayne sooner). Last season, a civil war ended, and season 3 is making a five-year time jump into the '70s.

Bruno Heller has a funny way — quite literally — of describing the move of Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler from Epix to HBO Max.
First, imagine you’re in a grocery store and on the hunt for, ahem, something tasty to enjoy. “Years ago, people had very few choices. Now it’s much more like a supermarket,” explains Heller, who created the DC drama that stars Jack Bannon in the title role. “I don’t mean to be crass about this, but you’re on a shelf and where you are on the shelf becomes very important in a way that it wasn’t before. So platforms matter. We are just very excited to be in the center aisle, in the middle of shelf, next to the cornflakes instead of up there with the maple honey granola with soy granules in it. The CFOs of AT&T and Discovery touted their companies’ early streaming momentum during a virtual investor conference on Monday.
WarnerMedia owner AT&T feels “good” about the early success of streaming service HBO Max, including subscriber and engagement trends, and its hybrid film release strategy for 2021, AT&T CFO John Stephens told the Deutsche Bank Media, Internet & Telecom Conference.
Addressing Warner’s hybrid distribution model for its 2021 film slate, he said: “We announced we would do it for a year and we are in that process now. What we have seen is not only good viewership of those movies on HBO Max but engagement that follows. That has been encouraging, so real success with it so far.”
With a limited opening of cinema circuits in the U.S., “we pivoted in that Covid environment,” Stephens said. With “the expectation that reopening will be gradual, it was a thoughtful, worthy investment in HBO Max,...

Undeniably, Gotham has treated us to no shortage of classic Batman villains over the course of its four seasons, with fresh interpretations of the Penguin, Riddler, Scarecrow and Mr. Freeze already having been offered up. In fact, some would argue that the series has played host to the best live action iterations of those very characters.
Obviously, one fan favorite that we’ve all expected to show up at some point is that of Harley Quinn, especially since a proto-Joker, Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan), has stolen the show on more than one occasion. Truth be told, we, like many of you, were expecting Erin Richards’ Barbara Kean to transition to becoming this series’ version of the Clown Princess of Crime, but it simply wasn’t meant to be.

Fox has released a new featurette for Gotham Season 4 and it teases a creepy new version of The Scarecrow. Looks like The Penguin will be the least of Gotham's worries! The villain will show the city of Gotham "what it means to fear." The promo also offers new shots of Bruce Wayne suiting up as the masked vigilante, The Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy and more.
In an interview with DC All Access, executive producer John Stephens also talks about Jim Gordon's story arc. He explains that as Bruce Wayne suits up to go out and protect Gotham, Gordon will be going out to hunt him down.

While one of the core themes of Gotham is undoubtedly that of Bruce Wayne’s journey to becoming Batman, it’s important we not forget that it’s Ben McKenzie, not David Mazouz, who gets top billing on the prequel series. As such, it’s only understandable that we follow the exploits of Jim Gordon for a good amount of time.
Since the very beginning, the man destined to become the metropolis’ top cop has had quite the interesting relationship with the Penguin, to put it mildly. Yes, they’ve each gotten each other out of some jams – in some morally questionable ways, I might add – but it’s undeniable that Gordon has held up his end quite begrudgingly, likely hoping to see Oswald Cobblepot permanently take up residence in a place such as Arkham Asylum or Blackgate Prison.

Fox has released a new promo spot for Gotham Season 4 and it shows us a couple pretty cool things! We get to see young Bruce Wayne get closer to becoming Batman and we see him wearing very early prototype black crime fighting Batman suit with a mask. The trailer also offers us a crazy new glimpse at the Scarecrow, who is being played by Charlie Tahan.
I don't know about you, but I'm excited for the return of Gotham and I'm looking forward to seeing how young Bruce Wayne's journey to becoming Batman continues to play out!
The season premiere of Season 4 of the series is called "A License To Kill" and this is the plot description:
Gordon fears Jonathan Crane (guest star Charlie Tahan) is still alive and back in Gotham, when The Scarecrow’s signature Mo is used in a series of robberies. Meanwhile, Penguin’s “licensing” of...

Throughout its first three seasons, we’ve seen Gotham forge its own path by reassembling the parts that make up the Batman mythos, generously reinterpreting more than a few characters. This has often been to the chagrin of staunch purists, but on the plus side, the producers can lay claim to always keeping us guessing where the story is going.
One such curveball that was thrown at us near the end of May’s finale was that of the revelation that Butch Gilzean’s birth name was, in fact, Cyrus Gold. And considering that he was shot in the head during his last encounter with Barbara Kean, we fully expect for him to be a changed man whenever he regains consciousness. In other words, he’s becoming the classic Batman villain, Solomon Grundy.

Bruce Wayne made some big leaps towards his transformation into the Dark Knight in Gotham Season 3 and that is going to continue in Season 4. His full transformation isn't going to happen anytime soon, but it will eventually happen.
When talking about Bruce's transformation, showrunner John Stephens had this to say during the Gotham panel at Comic-Con.
“He will wear body armor and grappling hooks, but he will not be Batman. It’s a little more of a Batman: Year One in a different setting.”
I always loved the Batman: Year One story arc and I think it's so cool that they are drawing inspiration from that with Gotham. He went on to tease other elements of Bruce Wayne that we'll see in the upcoming season, like how he learned to be a playboy.

To me, Gotham feels somewhat like pro wrestling insofar that allegiances between characters seem to shift often in order to keep storylines fresh. To some, this may feel frustrating, but it’s actually quite believable when you consider that the city’s underworld is made up of flamboyant villains possessing astronomical egos.
When we last saw the major players in the season 3 finale, the three we’re focusing on today each underwent something significant: the Riddler had been frozen in a block of ice, thus serving as a macabre centerpiece in Penguin’s new digs, the Iceberg Lounge; Butch Gilzean was shot in the head before it was revealed that his birth name is, in fact, Cyrus Gold, therefore implying he’s coming back as Solomon Grundy; and Lee Thompkins was cured of the Alice Tetch virus, but, the more we hear, it sounds like she’ll remain a bad girl for the foreseeable future.

Although Cameron Monaghan has never been a part of Gotham‘s principal cast, many would likely argue – and I would agree with them – that Jerome Valeska has easily emerged as the finest villain the series has thus far produced, thanks to sharp writing and the young actor’s incredible performances. Now, that’s not meant to be a knock against Robin Lord Taylor’s Penguin or Cory Michael Smith’s Riddler, but it’s just a testament to how well Monaghan has brought this proto-Joker to life.
When we last saw Jerome, he’d paid homage to Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman: Death of the Family by wearing a dead skin mask with such style. But after he’d had all his fun in an amusement park straight out of The Killing Joke, James Gordon succeeded in apprehending the young knave – and punching off his face in the process.

Saying a lot happened this past season on Gotham is a massive understatement. Still, those who cut the trailer shown today at San Diego Comic-Con did their best to sum it up. Throughout the sizzle reel, we got to relive some of the finer points such as the rise of the Riddler, the return of Jerome Valeska and Bruce Wayne taking his first great strides toward becoming Batman.
On that note, it very much sounds like we can expect to see David Mazouz’s take on the timeless icon to continue dispensing street justice throughout the alleys of his home city in the coming year. There’s just one catch, however: Don’t expect him to take up cape and cowl anytime soon, something executive producer John Stephens touched on during the panel:

In many ways, the episode laid the groundwork for the remainder of season 3, as Mayor Oswald Cobblepot’s reign begins to falter under pressure from Ed Nygma. But without question, it was the long-anticipated return of Jerome Valeska that stole the headlines. Resurrecting the show’s proto-Joker has been long on the cards, but it appears as though Gotham‘s creative team are also leaving the door open for a Harley Quinn cameo appearance further down the line – likely during the season 3 finale.
During an interview with TV Guide, producer John Stephens teased that “we might see [Quinn] in Episode 22,” which will seemingly tee up season 4’s narrative arc. All of this is yet to be confirmed, so don’t go banking on a Harley Quinn cameo in Gotham season 3 just yet.

In the mid-season premiere of Gotham last night we saw the return of a very creepy looking Jerome, who will most likely end up being The Joker. It looks like later this season he will be joined by the show's own version of Harley Quinn!
The Harley Quinn news comes from executive producer John Stephens who told TV Guide, “We might see [her] in Episode 22,” and then teased that the character will be the “launching point” for the main plot of the fourth season of Gotham.
I'm excited and curious to see how Gotham's version of this character will turn out. There's no information on what that might look like, so we'll just have to wait and see.
I also included a promo spot for next week's episode, titled “Smile Like You Mean It,” along with a plot description:
“On the run from Gordon and Bullock, Dwight (guest star David Dastmalchian...

We only saw a few brief glimpses of Cameron Monaghan's Jerome Valeska on tonight's midseason premiere of Gotham, but next week it looks like the deranged villain will make his actual return to to the land of the living with a little help from one of his obsessed disciples, Dwight Pollard (Dark Knight and Ant-Man actor David Dastmalchian). It'll be very interesting to witness Jerome's journey from this point on, and to see if he really does evolve into The Clown Prince of Crime. In related news, executive producer John Stephens tells TV Guide that we "might" see a proto version of Harley Quinn in the season 3 finale. If she does turn up, it's a safe bet she'll be a member of the Joker cult. Check out the promo for "Smile like you Mean It" below, along with some promotional stills Here. Back in November, we learned that Jerome is set to make his return when Gotham comes back from its holiday hiatus. Now, with “Mad City: Ghosts” airing tomorrow, a couple new teasers have been released to help build anticipation.
First, let’s talk about the clip that happens to feature Jerome himself, since that’s probably the one that drew many of you here initially. In it, we see glimpses of various members of the principal cast, but it’s the chilling narration of Cameron Monaghan that serves as the icing on the cake. The cadence of his voice suggests that he’s risen to new levels of malevolence and insanity, something executive producer John Stephens recently admitted when speaking to TV Guide:
“It’s the same Jerome, but altered. He’s not as nice as he was before. Someone who has basically gone through death and come back to...

Unbelievably strong winds of change are set to blow through Gotham when the Batman prequel series returns in a few short weeks, as evidenced by the trailer above. As we can see, Jim Gordon is becoming a bit more of a loose cannon, Penguin is evermore brazen and confident, Fish Mooney seeks to build an army, and Bruce Wayne continues to stride toward destiny.
In relation to that, a dynamic new poster revealed by The Hollywood Reporter (seen below) sees Gordon prominently holding a snow globe containing various villains already established on the series along with Maggie Geha as the aged up Poison Ivy.
