There are many anime series where the secondary characters are more popular than the main characters. The biggest example of this is Naruto. Masashi Kishimoto’s magnum opus has featured many such characters who surpassed Naruto in popularity, either because of their power or their qualities as characters that define them.
A still from Kishimoto’s Naruto | Studio Pierrot
A few examples of these characters are Itachi Uchiha, Jiraya, Kakashi Hatake, Minato Namikaze, Madara Uchiha, etc. While Kishimoto had no idea that these well-written characters would become so popular, he did hope for two other secondary characters to gain a little bit of fame among the Naruto fanbase.
In an interview with Kobayashi Kendo, the Naruto creator revealed the names of two characters who he actually wanted to become popular but couldn’t. He even gave the reason behind why he thought that these characters could gain popularity among the...

Masashi Kishimoto has given his mind, body, and soul to make Naruto and all its following works a smashing success. From the protagonist’s journey in growing as a character to achieving an unimaginable amount of power, there has been patience and understanding that makes Naruto such a liked character. However, he wasn’t the only character to have arcs worth of development.

Each character has their own strengths and weaknesses. Some make them stand out while others help them blend in the crowd. What makes a character better is their understanding of what makes them stronger or weaker. In Naruto’s case, however, it would seem that one weakness was out of his own abilities as well.

Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto is told from the perspective of the young and brave protagonist. It is through Naruto’s eyes that we discover the shinobi world and its various adventures.
While fans are quite satisfied with this arrangement, Masashi Kishimoto often thinks of a more experimental approach to the story. In a 2015 interview with Anime News Network, Kishimoto revealed that he often thinks about how the shinobi world would look from the perspective of other characters, especially one that is close to the hearts of every fan.
Which character’s perspective did Masashi Kishimoto want to retell Naruto from? Jiraiya – Naruto
In the interview, Masashi Kishimoto was reminded that most of Naruto is told from Naruto’s point of view, as he is the central character. However, there are a lot of interesting and quirky characters in the series, so which character would he choose for the role?

At times, Naruto fans are reminded why the franchise is a masterpiece and considered one of the big three in the industry. Masashi Kishimoto not only created characters with heartbreaking backstories but also went to the extra length of creating lore that runs deep through the Shinobi world.
In fact, the plot runs so deep that fans come up with theories even years down the road. Just like a recent theory that suggests an Akatsuki knew about Shinigami and the Reaper Death Seal and even had his own version of it!
Which Akatsuki member knew about the Reaper Death Seal in Naruto?
According to a fan theory, Hidan, the Jashin worshipper Akatsuki member, knew about Shinigami and the Death Seal. While he may not have known about the sealing technique in particular, he did develop something very similar to it, and it is because of his Jashin worship.

The Akatsuki is one of the most brutal factions in anime history. They were formed with the idea of capturing all the tailed beasts and summoning the Ten-Tails. Being the Nine-Tails fox’s jinchuriki, Naruto Uzumaki also had to stay alert. The Akatsuki recruited shinobi with unique abilities and divided them into groups of two, which helped them catch their prey.
One of the members of the evil faction was Hidan. Hidan was partnered up with the oldest member, Kakuzu. Hidan had one of the most deadly abilities and used it to kill Asuma Sarutobi. But one of the Naruto fan theories suggests that the overpowered ability proved to be the reason for his demise. Shikamaru Nara had an advantage after Hidan used his Jashin ability against him in Naruto Shippuden.

Orochimaru was one of the most evil shinobi in the Naruto verse. He was the most talented out of the three Legendary Sannin, and Hiruzen Sarutobi expected great things of him. But instead of walking down the right path, he chose to seek vengeance on the Leaf Village and tried to destroy the village on multiple occasions.
He experimented on several human beings and created a faction from the Sound Village shinobi to carry out his missions. Orochimaru was fond of forbidden jutsu and was always on the lookout to decode those jutsu using experimentation. But later on, he left his evil ways behind. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is currently reaching the heights of its popularity as a narrative, and the manga has completed the time jump and began releasing the post-time skip storyline of the series, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
The official follow-up series Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is set three years after the events of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and is very different from the former in terms of both subject matter and approach. With the assistance of Eida’s power at the end of the first series, Kawaki firmly established his claim to power as Naruto’s legitimate son, while Boruto was shunned by the Hidden Leaf Village.
Naruto’s fate has also changed because Kawaki made use of the Space-Time Ninjutsu to send him and Hinata to a distant dimension. Because of this Naruto has been absent from the post-time skip narrative which has disappointed many fans.

Naruto is one of the greatest anime to be ever made. Masashi Kishimoto created a generational fiction that would pave the road for the manga and anime industry towards a path of glory. With the culmination of Naruto, fans were expecting to not see their favorite characters again; nonetheless, to their astonishment, a sequel focusing on the adventures of Boruto Uzumaki was disclosed. Fans were delighted to see the continuation; however, they were dispirited by the sequel, which had poor animation and unstable writing.
Jiraiya from Naruto
One of the essential reasons for Boruto’s downfall was its animation; it was very flaky and not up to par. Somehow, fan-made animations had better and more profound storytelling and quality. Fan animations have enhanced drastically in the last few years, and one of the fan animations brought back Jiraiya and many other past members of Konoha for a conclusive battle against the Ōtsutsuki.

The animation industry is divided between a limited number of animation studios, where each one of them has an outstanding collection of anime series. While some are renowned for their plot, and some for their animation, among so many studios comes Studio Pierrot which has a history of producing some excellent shonen titles. The studio’s collection is massive and equally impressive as it has created anime series like Tokyo Ghoul, Black Clover, Naruto, Bleach, and many more.
Naruto Uzumaki
However, Studio Pierrot would have lost its impressive anime collection, had the studio failed to pay its loans. The studio had used the intellectual property of different anime series, which also included Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto. Although Pierrot used it to finance its projects which generated massive profits, but its chilling to think that the beloved Naruto series would have ended up in a different animation studio.

"Naruto" fans know a few things for a fact: Naruto Uzimaki always comes through for his teammates, Sakura Haruno will forever swoon for Sasuke Uchiha, and Kakashi Hatake is a certified badass. The popular, long-running anime series typically focuses on the lives and antics of Team 7, but occasionally their sensei steals the show. But Kakashi is one of the series' most beloved characters, so a lot of viewers welcome his intrusion and the chance to learn more about the mysterious ninja.
In the beginning, not much is known about Kakashi except that he always keeps half of his face, and his left eye, covered, which adds to the mystery of the character. Throughout "Naruto," Kakashi's backstory is revealed, and we learn more about his past, as well as his Sharingan eye, but his face remains hidden. Reportedly, "Naruto" manga writer Kishimoto Masashi believed perma-masking Kakashi communicated his dedication and accomplishments within the ninja world,...

If you grew up watching "Naruto," or caught up with a few episodes in the original Japanese dub later in life, you will know that Naruto repeats "Dattebayo!" like a mantra. The word translates to "Believe it!" in English, and the anime's English dub features this phrase heavily since it was first introduced during the Chunin Exams arc. "Believe it!" has become a generational phrase for the Uzumakis, as it was initially uttered by Kushina, and then passed on from Naruto to his son, Boruto. While this remains a staple Naruto catchphrase, there's another signature staple phrase that inspires fans to this day.
In one of the episodes of "Naruto," the titular knuckleheaded ninja said the following: "I am a nobody, but I never gave up." This philosophy of never giving up shapes Naruto as a protagonist, as he abides by this mantra throughout his long, eventful arc. In fact,...

The world of anime probably wouldn’t exist without the creation of manga. Even if you’re not familiar with the genre, the comics and graphic novels let you dive that much deeper into the story arcs that inspired anime favorites such as “Dragon Ball Z,” “Tokyo Ghoul,” “Naruto,” “Attack on Titan,” and “Fullmetal Alchemist.” And if you’ve been spending a lot of time at home, or simply crave some new reading material, manga offers a perfect hybrid of adventure-packed stories and incredible illustrations.
