Could there be a new judge hitting the gavel in syndication? Sources say Maria Lopez, a former Massachusetts Superior Court judge, is making the rounds of major syndie distributors this week after receiving some overtures about presiding over her own TV courtroom. The Cuban-born Lopez has been described as having a no-nonsense approach to her work. Court shows are an enduring genre in syndication, and Hispanic judges now are starting to make their mark: Marilyn Milian presides over Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution's The People's Court, and Alex Ferrer is the featured jurist on Twentieth Television's upcoming Judge Alex, set to launch in the fall. Lopez is repped by Rebel Entertainment Partners and attorney George Tobia at Burns & Levinson.
