California’s premier culinary talents will be joining forces this week along with host Tony Hale and event co-chair/Rogers & Cowan CEO Mark Owens to raise money for global non-profit organization, March of Dimes.
The 2019 Signature Chefs Auction takes place on Thursday, Oct. 14 at the Sls Hotel in Beverly Hills, with 12 local master chefs serving up tastings of their most highly-acclaimed dishes.
“March of Dimes really delivers a simple message that if the moms are healthy then you can have strong babies,” Owens told TheWrap. “It is a real problem here in California where about 9% of babies are born premature, which is the number one cause of death for children five years and under. It is not an easy problem to solve, but it is a solvable problem,” he explained.

For Sunday’s Oscars 2019 ceremony, producers had a difficult decision of which film industry people would make the cut and who would be left out of the “In Memoriam.” For the segment, Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Philharmonic performed music by Oscar winner John Williams.
Over 100 Academy members or film industry veterans died in the past 12 months. Visit our own Gold Derby memoriam galleries for the year of 2018 and the newly-started gallery for 2019.

Stanley Donen would have certainly been included, but he died on the weekend after the segment had been finalized (look for him on the 2020 show). Here is list of some of the people included in the Memoriam tribute for the ceremony (Academy members are indicated with ** by their names):

While Academy Awards producers have strived for a much shorter ceremony this year, the annual “In Memoriam” segment will definitely remain. In fact this moment on Sunday’s 2019 event should be extra classy since Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Philharmonic will be performing as part of the tribute.
Over 100 Academy members or film industry veterans died in the past 12 months. But which ones will be featured in the short segment? There are generally outcries each year from family members upset about people being left out. Visit our own Gold Derby memoriam galleries for the year of 2018 and the newly-started gallery for 2019.
Virtually certain to be part of the montage are Oscar-winning directors Bernardo Bertolucci and Milos Forman, Oscar-nominated actors Carol Channing, Albert Finney and Burt Reynolds, director and actress Penny Marshall, executive producer and entertainment icon Stan Lee and many more.
SEEDana Carvey, Mike Myers, Queen Latifah, Barbra Streisand...

There’s a reason Paul Bloch was a giant in this industry, and that he handled the biggest talent for so long. Paul was, simply, the epitome of decency. In an era where fame, fortune and loyalty are fleeting, Paul managed to treat us all with respect.
It didn’t matter if you were the president of a network, the hotshot producer for Barbara Walters or Katie Couric, or the booker trying to corral names for the third-place morning show. He called you back — and Not three days later. He listened as you plead your case. He gave you a shot.
In the years before email and iPhones, Paul was a colorful character: He loved to talk about his most recent trips to Hawaii and his ever-growing collection of Hawaiian shirts. But he wasn’t just a character, he Had character.

Paul Bloch, the well-known publicist who served as chairman of publicity powerhouse Rogers & Cowan and worked with clients including John Travolta, Michael Keaton and Tom Cruise, died Friday at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles after a long illness. He was 78.
Bloch was adept at handling P.R. crises, such as Eddie Murphy being stopped for picking up a prostitute, throughout his five-decade career in Hollywood — the entire time at Rogers & Cowan.
The veteran publicist took over managing Cruise’s P.R. after the disastrous couch-jumping episode of 2005. Bloch worked with Cruise for the next five years.
“Paul was not one of the best. He was the best. To say he will be missed is like saying Everest is a mountain,” said longtime publicist Stan Rosenfield.
Among the other stars for whom he handled damage control were Nick Nolte, who was arrested for driving under the influence, and Lisa Marie Presley,...

Lee Anne DeVette has dealt with her brother's romance with Katie Holmes and his controversial comments about Scientology and psychiatry during her time as his press officer. Cruise has replaced his sister with top Hollywood PR man Paul Bloch, who also serves as co-chairman for publicity powerhouse Rogers & Cowan and represents movie stars John Travolta, Sylvester Stallone, Billy Bob Thornton and David Beckham and Victoria Beckham, among others. However, DeVette will continue to work alongside her brother as the full-time caretaker of his charity work. In a statement, the movie star says, "Lee Anne has done a wonderful job on behalf of me and Cruise-Wagner Productions over the last few years, but she has always expressed a desire to oversee and expand the day-to-day activities of my charitable endeavors." DeVette adds, "I know how important Tom's charitable goals are to him, and I look forward to assisting in raising the profile of the good works that he does on behalf of children's health issues, mentoring, literacy and other social reforms."...
