The original Bewitched was a lighthearted sitcom about a supernaturally gifted housewife who could alter reality just by wiggling her nose.
But it sounds like we'll soon be presented with a very different version of Samantha Stephens.
A reboot described as "an irreverent hourlong reimagination" of Bewitched is currently in development by Sony and writer-producer Judalina Neira.
Yes, this is your classic "gritty reboot," and if Neira's work on The Boys is any indication, you can expect it to be quite dark.
Perhaps Samantha will use her powers to become a cocaine kingpin, or maybe every time she wiggles her nose, a random person will die. The possibilities are endless!
According to a new report from Deadline, Neira -- who will be executive producing alongside Doug Robinson and Lauren Moffat -- is helming the show as the first project for both her overall deal with Sony and her new production company,...

A new series reboot of irreverant, witchy comedy “Bewitched” is on the way from “The Boys” scribe and “Gen V” co-executive producer Judalina Neira. Deadline reports that the series reboot is the first project under Neira’s new deal with Sony Pictures TV.
Written by Neira, the “Bewitched” reboot is described as an hour-long reimagining of the classic TV series that premiered in 1964 and ran for 254 episodes. It followed a witch named Samantha, who married a mortal man and attempts to lead the life of a stereotypical suburban housewife.
“Bewitched” is part of Neira’s newly signed deal with Sony Pictures Television focused on developing drama series for cable and streaming through her newly launched production company, Famous Last Words Productions.
Neira most recently served as executive producer on the upcoming fourth season of Sony TV’s superhero hit show “The Boys” and on another Prime Video series, the recently...

The classic sitcom Bewitched ran for eight seasons and a total of 254 episodes, premiering on September 17, 1964 and wrapping up on March 25, 1972. A spin-off called Tabitha came and went in 1977, then Bewitched received a big screen reboot back in 2005… and in recent years, Sony has shown that they’re very eager to reboot the property again. Back in 2018, it was announced that Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and writer Yamara Taylor were working on a TV series reboot that would give the concept “an interracial twist”. That didn’t go anywhere. In 2021, it was reported that Terry Matalas (MacGyver) and Travis Fickett (12 Monkeys) had been hired to write the screenplay for a new Bewitched movie. That never made it into production… and apparently the idea has been abandoned, because now Deadline has learned that writer/producer Judalina Neira has signed an overall deal with Sony Pictures Television that’s focused on developing...
