Horror fans tend to treat their favorite movies — no matter how schlocky or cheaply-made — as sacred cows, which puts an immeasurable amount of pressure on anyone who dares to remake, reboot, or legacyquel a beloved title. And yet, director Danishka Esterhazy handled that pressure with ease for her fantastic meta-remake of "Slumber Party Massacre," and quickly solidified herself as one of the most exciting new voices in horror.
Esterhazy had already earned a great deal of goodwill with her twisted take on "The Banana Splits Movie," and well-versed aficionados likely first learned of her work with the gripping sci-fi dystopian flick "Level 16," about a prison-like boarding school for girls harboring a demented secret. And luckily for fans of all things scary and slasher, Esterhazy has a new film coming to the Tubi streaming service on May 17, 2024, called "Killer Body Count." That's right, in less than three days from the time this article goes live,...

Netflix's South African drama, Blood & Water, premiered on May 20 and fans are already eager for the next chapter. Directed by Nosipho Dumisa, the series follows 16-year-old Puleng Khulamo (Ama Qamata) as she juggles family drama, a love triangle, and the dangers of prep school politics for one reason: she's convinced that popular girl Fikile Bhele (Khosi Ngema) is actually her long-lost sister who was abducted at birth 17 years ago. The teen seemingly solves the case in the show's season one finale, but that still leaves a ton of questions left unanswered, which means Netflix has more than enough reason to renew the series for a second season - and they have! And if you think you're excited about the renewal, just look at how excited the cast members were when Dumisa broke the news to them:

If you like streaming series from Netflix, you must have caught an episode of “Blood & Water.” The show is set in South Africa and is the second original series on Netflix after “Queen Sono.” Although some of the cast are actors we have grown accustomed to, such as Gail Mabalane and Khosi Ngema, others like Dillon Windvogel are not as popular. Since he is yet to give any interviews, we had to dig a little deeper to find out more about him, and here is what we know so far. 1. Who represents him? In November 2017, Dillon’s talent

Once upon a time, Netflix was simply a streaming service, which means it bought movies and TV shows from other companies and passed them to its subscribers. Then, when the streamer started making enough money, it began to finance its own productions to make content that was – now and always – exclusively available on its own platform.
That business model stuck around for quite a while and made the streamer lots of extra cash. But then coronavirus hit and as the global health crisis put a stop to moviemaking around the world, Netflix slowly reverted back to its original form as a simple video on demand service. For now, at least. This week, then, not unlike the weeks before it, brings a few delayed originals, and a ton of newly-acquired syndicated content.

After watching the first episode of Netflix's new series Blood & Water, I was hooked. When I got to episode two, though, my anxiety kicked in and I had to turn off the show. I've been living with generalized anxiety disorder (Gad) all my life, but I'm never entirely sure what will trigger an anxiety attack or cause me to become so stressed that I cannot function. While Blood & Water's story is compelling and the actors are amazing, it's the way the story begins to unfold that caused me to turn it off in favor of something "fluffy."

Blood & Water may have just dropped on Netflix, but we're already obsessed. The six-episode South African series centers around a 16-year-old student named Puleng Khumalo (Ama Qamata) who transfers into the prestigious Parkhurst College in hopes of figuring out what happened to her abducted sister. This then leads to to Puleng becoming obsessed with one of the school's most popular students, Fikile Bhele (Khosi Ngema), who she swears is her long-lost sister.
Helmed by director Nosipho Dumisa, the series was filmed in Cape Town, South Africa. However, Parkhurst College isn't actually a real institution, so most of the filming took place at the University of Cape Town and around the city.
From high school drama to teenage love, the show has everything you'd want. Not to mention, the cast is gorgeous! So if you haven't had a chance to dive in yet, we highly suggest you do!

From the very first scene of Blood & Water, viewers are pulled into the tragic story of the Khumalo family and their missing daughter. High schooler Puleng (Ama Qamata) has grown up under the shadow of her older sister, Phumelele, who was kidnapped at birth. Her parents are still grieving their lost daughter by celebrating her birthday every year and Puleng is distressed by their inability to let go of her sister's memory. Cue Fikile Bhele (Khosi Ngema), a girl Puleng meets at a party who has the same birthday as her older sister and a striking familial resemblance. Their meeting leads Puleng (and the audience) into a convoluted investigation into Phumelele's kidnapping and it takes all six episodes until we get an answer.
Though Puleng's meeting with Fikile sets the former into investigation mode, it's her father's arrest that gives her a proper start. Puleng's father, Julius (Getmore Sithole...

Earlier this year, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos and a team of executives traveled across the African continent, meeting with local creatives, as part of an aggressive content expansion into areas that are still relatively untapped sources of talent. Sarandos did so as the streaming giant’s first African Original series, the spy drama “Queen Sono,” was released worldwide. Now its second African Original series, the teen mystery/drama “Blood & Water,” premieres on May 20. And like “Sono,” it’s regrettably pedestrian. It has “Euphoria” aspirations, but instead settles for the after school special-esque melodrama of “Beverly Hills, 90210,” except it’s set in a part of the world that rarely gets this kind of high-profile, international exposure on screen.
