In 1979, Fleetwood Mac released Tusk, an experimental album that was a stark departure from Rumours. The album was not as commercially successful as its predecessor and, while critics liked it, they didn’t think it stacked up to the band’s 1977 magnum opus. Still, it drew some comparisons to The Beatles. Some critics didn’t use the comparison as a compliment, though.
Critics compared a ‘Fleetwood Mac’ album to The Beatles
The stormy dynamic that hung heavy over the Rumours recording sessions followed Fleetwood Mac into the studio as they worked on Tusk. Lindsey Buckingham seized creative control and his bandmate’s songs didn’t fit all that snugly into his vision. As a result, the album sounded like a mismatched collection of songs instead of a cohesive whole. This quality, some critics said, evoked The Beatles’ White Album.

As the title indicates, "X-Men '97" is firmly set in the decade in which the original "X-Men: The Animated Series" debuted, the gloriously colorful '90s. So when Jubilee turns 18 in the fourth episode of the animate series revival, it only makes sense that she wants to take all of her mutant teammates to the arcade to celebrate. Unfortunately, the X-Men's new leader Magneto isn't having it, which prompts Jubilee to vent her frustrations to the newest X-Men recruit, Roberto da Costa (aka Sunspot), while hanging out in her room.
That's when Roberto notices that Jubilee really is a gamer, noticing a game console sitting next to the TV in her bedroom. But even though Jubilee genuinely believes that the only people who hate video games are bad at video games, that console doesn't belong to her. Instead, the Motendo is actually a sneaky trap created by...

Indie Movie “Game-Changer”
£1B worth of sweeteners: It was a potentially “game-changing” week for a floundering British indie film sector with the unveiling of a 40% tax relief on movies with budgets less than £15M ($19M) — a relief that trade body Pact says it has been calling for in some form or another since 2017 and which answers the prayers of Culture, Media & Sport Committee boss Caroline Dinenage. Jeremy Hunt’s budget was perhaps the most listened-to and most celebrated for a decade by the creative industries after the UK Chancellor unveiled the relief with fanfare alongside 40% business rates relief for big studios and improved VFX relief. The live-action TV series based on the Goosebumps books written by R.L. Stine that was released through the Disney+ and Hulu streaming services last October (read our review Here) drew inspiration from five of Stine’s Goosebumps stories. We’re going to have the chance to see more Stine stories brought to life, as Variety reports that Goosebumps season 2 has officially been given the greenlight – but the show is taking the anthology route, so we can expect a season that has “an entirely new cast and setting based on Stine’s iconic Scholastic book series.” Season 2 will also consist of eight episodes, two shorter than the first season.
The first season of Goosebumps centered on a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle — while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past.

From man-eating beds to serial-killing gingerbread cookies, there’s no shortage of absurd premises in the horror genre. However, not all of these weird movies are created equal, and I’d argue that a silly premise is only half the battle when crafting a legitimately entertaining piece of absurdist genre cinema. Personally, I think that the very best of these strange projects succeed because they take an utterly ridiculous concept and play it completely straight, often revealing unexpected terrors as filmmakers show us worlds where tumors can go homicidal and mad scientists can stitch people into human centipedes.
One of my favorite examples of this kind of cinematic absurdity done right is Kevin Smith’s controversial horror-comedy Tusk, a divisive feature that’s almost equally loved and hated by the horror community. And with the flick currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, I thought that this might be a great time...

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has shut down state-run 24-hour news channel Tvp Info, according to reports.
The BBC reported that Tusk had shuttered the channel as part of a bid to “depoliticise” public media. A resolution on Tuesday evening local time was backed by a majority in Warsaw’s Parliament calling for public TV and radio to display “independence, objectivity and pluralism.”
Reports state that the head of the Tvp network, the head of state news agency Pap and also the head of Polish radio have all been dismissed. Tvp Info was taken off air on Wednesday.
Tusk, a pro-eu Prime Minister who leads a coalition government, was sworn in earlier this month after winning a mandate in October. His opponents, the Law and Justice Party, staged a sit-in at the Tvp headquarters after the news channel was shut down.

Bosses at Poland’s oldest state broadcaster have been removed and its news channel taken off air by Donald Tusk’s new government.
The heads of Tvp, Polish Radio and state news agency Pap were fired yesterday with the new Tusk-led coalition dismissing Tvp as a propaganda channel that had been aligned with the Law and Justice (PiS) party – the nation’s previous ruling administration.
Responding, PiS’ head Jaroslaw Kaczynski condemned the Tusk government’s “illegal actions” and joined a protest at Tvp headquarters in the Polish capital Warsaw overnight. Last night, Tvp Info, the 24-hour news service, symbolically changed its headline strap from red to black before being taken off air.
Poland’s state treasury owns 100% of the 70-year-old state broadcaster and “the necessity for this type of action and the justification were set out in the resolution of the [parliament] of the Republic of Poland of December 19, 2023,” according to the Polish culture ministry,...

Writer/director Zach Cregger’s horror film Barbarian (watch it Here) was a financial success when it was released last year, and it also received a lot of positive word-of-mouth. New Line Cinema was so impressed by it, they forked over $38 million to pick up Cregger’s mysterious new horror project, Weapons. (Beating out Jordan Peele and Universal in the bidding war.) New Line then signed a first look deal with BoulderLight Pictures, the production company behind Barbarian. They have since set up two other projects, a sci-fi thriller called Companion and a haunted house movie called Occupant, that Cregger will be producing. But while the filmmakers move on to other ideas, Barbarian does still has life in it. Our friends at Bloody Disgusting report that a Barbarian video game is now in the works!

Back in 2017, BuzzFeed writer Adam Ellis wrote out a ghost story (which he swears is completely true) on Twitter, and that story caught so much attention that there was soon talk of a movie adaptation. The project, titled Dear David, was first set up at New Line Cinema in 2018, then made its way over to Lionsgate. Now Lionsgate has announced that they’ll be giving Dear David a theatrical, digital, and VOD release on October 13th – and along with that announcement comes the unveiling of a trailer, which you can watch in the embed above.

Fleetwood Mac toiled for a decade before they achieved massive success by adding Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham to the lineup. The duo provided the spark that helped the band explode in popularity. Twenty-five Fleetwood Mac songs landed on the Billboard singles chart, including nine in the top 10. Continuing without Christine McVie seems unlikely, according to Mick Fleetwood, so those nine tunes, including Fleetwood Mac’s only No. 1 hit, could be their only top-10 songs. Let’s look at how they stack up.

After spending the last few weeks of January buried in films of the 2000-2010s with remake House of Wax (2005) and Crimson Peak (2015), February has been dedicated to the early 1980s with Videodrome (1983) and Possession (1981).
Now we’re up to 2014’s Tusk, Kevin Smith‘s second foray into horror. The film stars Justin Long as Wallace, a d-bag podcaster who travels to Canada to mock a boy who cut off his leg on the internet. When the story falls through, Wallace travels to a remote mansion to meet with Howard Howe (Michael Parks), a recluse with plenty of stories and…odd interests.
When Howard goes missing, it’s up to his girlfriend Ally (Genesis Rodriguez) and Not-See Party podcast co-host Teddy (Haley Joel Osment), along with a bizarre French...

Lindsey Buckingham is largely responsible for Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk, and the guitar player has since said that the 1979 record could be considered his “first solo album.” Here’s what Buckingham said about Tusk and the new solo album he’s working on in 2023.

In a 2021 interview with Vulture, Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham was asked what he thought was the band’s most underappreciated song.
“It wasn’t so much about the song than it was the whole album Tusk and the fact that everyone was expecting Rumours II,” he responded. “We gave them something totally different. When Tusk came out with the song and the album, people either got why we did it and appreciated the departure we’d made, or it alienated them.”

Lindsey Buckingham made some unusual requests for recording the 1979 Fleetwood Mac album Tusk, including demanding a replica of his personal bathroom. Here’s why the guitarist wanted his exact bathroom to make Tusk and what he said about the album.

The 1979 double album Tusk was Fleetwood Mac’s 12th studio record. It featured the popular songs “Sisters of the Moon,” “I Know I’m Not Wrong,” “Sara,” and “Brown Eyes.”
Guitarist Lindsey Buckingham practiced several tracks at home before recording them in the studio for the album. To maintain the “amazing sound” he had achieved at his house, he demanded a replica of his personal bathroom.
“1927 bathrooms, believe me – they’re rock ’n’ roll all the way,” Buckingham said in studio footage from the Tusk era (per Rolling Stone...

The killer moose movie Moose Jaws has been brewing in the mind of Kevin Smith for several years now. The project, which has always been described as simply “Jaws with a moose“, was meant to wrap up Smith’s True North Trilogy, which began with Tusk and continued with Yoga Hosers… but for some reason, it has proven to be more difficult to get Moose Jaws into production than its predecessors. The Moose Jaws problem may have been solved, as during a recent convention appearance Smith gave a positive update on the long-awaited horror film.
Speaking at GalaxyCon in Columbus, Ohio, Smith revealed that Moose Jaws is expected to be one of the next five movies he makes and will be a continuation of the working relationship he has established with Lionsgate. As he explained, “(Moose Jaws) is a movie I’ve been threatening to make for a long time,...

Kevin Smith's 2014 film "Tusk" has a rather strange origin story. On a 2013 episode of his long-running podcast "SModcast" -- the episode titled "The Walrus and the Carpenter" -- Smith and his co-host Scott Mosier came across a real-life British want ad from a man seeking a roommate. The want ad described a strange scenario wherein the lodger would be allowed to stay with the man rent-free, provided the lodger dress and behave like a walrus. The man who posted the ad evidently recalled a wonderful time in his past when he had bonded with a real-life walrus and wanted to recreate the feeling.
Smith and Mosier spend 60 full minutes discussing the veracity of the ad and laughing as they imagine this walrus-like scenario as it might appear in a feature film. The two of them become so enamored by their conversation that, by the end of the hour, they...

Writer/director Zach Cregger’s horror film Barbarian was given a theatrical release on September 9th – and now 20th Century Studios and New Regency have announced that the movie will be getting a digital release just in time for Halloween! To be specific, Barbarian will be available to watch digitally as of October 25th.
Cregger, who co-created the TV series The Whitest Kids U’Know, crafted a story for Barbarian that begins when
a young woman traveling to Detroit for a job interview books a rental home. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double booked, and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgement, she decides to spend the evening, but soon discovers that there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.
The film stars Georgina Campbell (Krypton), Bill Skarsgård (It), Justin Long (Tusk), Matthew Patrick Davis...

Kevin Smith has finally managed to get Clerks III out into the world, years after he first announced that he wanted to make the film. So now it’s about time for him to move on to the next project. Looking ahead to the future, we have put together a list of Kevin Smith Movies We Want to See – and you can see the result below! Check it out, then let us know what Kevin Smith movies you most want to see by leaving a comment.
Mallrats 2
Smith’s 1995 film Mallrats wasn’t a box office success, but that hasn’t stopped talk of a sequel coming up here and there over the years – whether it would be a “Die Hard in a Mall” scenario, a limited series, or something completely different. The problem is that Mallrats is a Universal property, so Smith can’t do anything with it unless the studio is on board.

Regardless of what you might think of his movies, his worldview, or anything else, filmmaker Kevin Smith remains a genuine maverick in the industry. His first movie, Clerks, was made for 27,000 with local actors in and around the south New Jersey environs of his youth, which inspired the movie. And it remains a genuine milestone of independent filmmaking. It helped pave the way for more DIY filmmakers to emerge outside the confines of the studio systems, with its improvised, lo-fi aesthetic being seen today in movies filmed on iPhones.
In the nearly 30 years since Clerks was released, Smith has continued to write and direct his own features while also occasionally working as a director-for-hire on larger studio projects. The core movies of his canon, known as the View Askewniverse and featuring Jason Mewes and Smith himself as anchor characters Jay and Silent Bob, predated the Marvel Cinematic Universe by more than a decade.

It’s always fun to find one of your favorite actors in a horror movie. It’s especially fun to notice an actor in an upcoming horror movie, move to check their IMDb and notice a litany of other horror movies you’d maybe forgotten they starred in. But to go and watch all of said actors horror movies in sequential order? I know, I know. Somebody better stop me because I’m a wild person with no regard for danger. C’mon, let’s get nuts.
Justin Long is the subject of this completist exercise in honor of his not one but two recently released horror movies: Barbarian (In theaters) and House of Darkness (Currently available for rent on VOD). I’ve always considered him an underrated and charismatic actor with the ability to walk the line between “cool guy” and “total dork” as they are so often the same in real life.

Last week, Justin Long mentioned that Kevin Smith had recently gotten in contact with him, Haley Joel Osment, and Genesis Rodriguez – his co-stars in Smith’s 2014 horror film Tusk (watch it Here) – to let them know that a sequel to Tusk is in their future. After Long’s quote made the news rounds, Smith took the opportunity to confirm his Tusk sequel plans on an episode of Fatman Beyond, the podcast he hosts with Marc Bernardin. Although Smith has previously said he intended to put Long and Rodriguez’s Tusk characters in his killer moose movie Moose Jaws, the sequel he’s planning is not Moose Jaws. It is indeed a Tusk 2… or, as Smith is calling it Tusks. But the S at the end is a dollar sign: Tusk.

Kevin Smith has quite a few horror comedies under his belt (alongside the straight-horror banger that is "Red State"), but his most controversial horror outing is easily 2014's Justin Long-starring "Tusk." Long plays podcaster Wallace Bryton, who, in a desperate moment, ends up at the house of the isolated elderly Manitoba man Howard Howe (Michael Parks). Howe has interesting tales to tell, including the story about how a walrus named "Mr. Tusk" saved him from a shipwreck. Bryton falls asleep and wakes to find himself strapped to a table. As Howe explains, his former walrus comrade died long ago, and Howe wants to employ fairly dramatic methods to make Bryton his new friend and ensure that he has a transformative visit in the depths of rural Canada.
The film was a box office bomb with mixed-to-negative critical reception, but it has since grown a significant cult following. In Kevin Smith's podcast "Fatman Beyond,...
