Exclusive: CAA has signed Luke Davies, the decorated Australian screenwriter, novelist and poet best known for his work on the 2016 Dev Patel drama, Lion.
Marking the feature directorial debut of Garth Davis, who’s currently back in theaters with the Amazon sci-fi thriller Foe, Lion is based on the true story of Saroo Brierley (Patel), who, against incredible odds, sought to reunite with his lost family after being separated from them by thousands of miles, over a period of 25 years. Davies won a BAFTA and was nominated for an Academy Award for his adaptation of Brierley’s 2013 book, A Long Way Home. Nicole Kidman also starred in the pic, which launched out of the Toronto Film Festival and went on to claim a total of six Oscar noms, including Best Picture, also grossing an impressive $140M+ worldwide.

The former “Dancing With the Stars” pro dancer — who has been promoting her new iHeartRadio podcast “Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans” — recently spoke to Et Canada’s Sangita Patel, insisting she couldn’t be better post-divorce.
“Instead of me running away, I’ve made a conscious effort just to face my feelings.”
She shared, “I’m doing great. I feel like I’m thriving. I have developed an amazing relationship with myself. I can actually say to you and not like shy away from saying that I truly love myself like it’s been a freakin’ journey.

Cheryl Burke is weighing in on the comments her former “Dancing With the Stars” fellow pro dancer Sharna Burgess recently made about difficult dance partners.
Burke — who has been promoting her new iHeartRadio podcast “Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans” — spoke to Et Canada’s Sangita Patel, insisting anyone wanting to know who her “least favourite” partner was would have to tune in to her podcast.
She did say “he’s a male” when asked for a hint.
“I mean, she made it pretty obvious, right? Like she did say after she won with Bobby Bones, so, I mean, you guys just need to Google it.”
The star then said of Burgess’ comments, which people have assumed are about Jesse Metcalfe: “She’s actually going to be my next guest. I’m interviewing her at the iHeart Music Festival in Vegas very soon in a few days here. Her and...

On the way home after a party-ending brawl, Aysha (Jason Patel) explains to Luke (Ben Hardy) the torrid love triangle that precipitated the fight in the first place. It sounds complicated, Luke remarks, but Aysha counters that it’s actually pretty simple: “Everybody just wants what they can’t have.”
Despite her breezy delivery, the statement seems to hang in the air between them. Because by this point, both Luke and Aysha already know on some level what they want. They just have to allow themselves to have it. Unicorns traces their twin journeys toward self-acceptance with empathy, curiosity and a refreshing disregard for constricting labels.
What stands between the central pair is not a lack of desire, but a clash of identities. Luke is a straight white single dad from Essex who scrapes together a modest living as a mechanic; Aysha is a professional drag queen from Manchester hiding...

If the recent mushrooming of A.I. recreations and YouTube / TikTok parodies of Wes Anderson’s cinema serve any purpose, it’s to show that his ongoing allure is a perfect harmony between content and form. Few talking points today are more insipid than those pegging the director as a recycler. Yes, his approach may be instantly recognizable: a penchant for symmetries, split-second sight gags, clipped exchanges, multi-plane depth, pastel-color palettes. But the cinematic universe Anderson has honed through eleven features and a handful of shorts has never been a monolith. Fragile family units––single fathers wrestling with grief and parenthood; orphans forming makeshift communities––are foundational to the director’s worldview. Those leitmotifs are tweaked with each new film and grafted onto larger, increasingly darker themes, like the specters of fascism haunting The Grand Budapest Hotel, the environmental catastrophes of Isle of Dogs, or the nuclear panic that fueled Asteroid City.

Fresh off his trip to “Asteroid City,” Wes Anderson is already back on the festival grind, bringing a new vision to Venice that plays, surprisingly enough, like “Anderson: Unplugged.” Naked and vulnerable in all the ways this year’s previous effort was girded by walls of remove, “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” points towards a new and earnest direction for the idiosyncratic filmmaker – and if you believe that, hear me out about a bridge in Brooklyn that’s calling your name.
So yes, Anderson’s “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” does offer more of the same in a slightly smaller dose, promising the familiar delights of impeccable artifice and arch performers clearly having a ball, and giving Anderson-heads – of which I often count myself – something to look forward to once this 40-minute short hits Netflix later this month. But given the film’s abridged runtime and its genuine playfulness,...

It’s hard to say whether Wes Anderson’s sensibility is perfectly suited to that of Roald Dahl or the other way around. Whichever it may be, the “Fantastic Mr. Fox” author’s “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” seems to have found its ideal screen incarnation in the “Fantastic Mr. Fox” director’s hands: a fanciful 40-minute short featuring a slew of new collaborators in the helmer’s traditional head-on diorama style. At that tight running time, it’s dauntingly dense, but also ready to compete in the Oscar short category, where it would be better than every winner since Martin McDonagh’s “Six Shooter” way back in 2006.
Instead of being a one-off, it’s just the start of a larger project, with three more Anderson-crafted Dahl adaptations — “The Swan,” “The Ratcatcher” and “Poison” — coming to Netflix in late September. “Henry Sugar” lands soon after “Asteroid City” and...

U.S. District Judge Stephen Wilson has thrown out a $5 million lawsuit that claimed Universal duped fans of Ana de Armas into watching its film Yesterday.

Looks like a federal judge believes in Yesterday.
A year and a half ago, Paul Michael Rosza and Conor Woulfe filed a $5 million lawsuit against Universal over Ana de Armas appearing in the trailer for the 2019 Danny Boyle-directed Yesterday, but being absent from the film itself.
Yesterday, U.S. District Stephen Wilson tossed the whole thing out.
Rejecting the plaintiff’s notion of “misrepresentation” in de Armas’ absence as a love interest from the Himesh Patel-led Beatles-themed rom-com, the judge agreed with the Comcast-owned studio that the case is a “self-inflicted injury.”
Along with denying Rosza and Woulfe’s desire for class certification, Wilson also ordered this much amended case to truly be over for good.
“In each prior dismissal, the Court has clearly delineated the pitfalls of the complaint and allowed successive amendments,” he wrote in an August 28 order. “However, it now appears to the...

Universal will not have to face a lawsuit accusing the studio of tricking people into watching Yesterday by featuring Ana de Armas in trailers, though she didn’t actually appear in the movie.
U.S. District Judge Stephen Wilson found on Monday that plaintiffs can’t pursue the proposed class action because they didn’t rely on alleged misrepresentations from the studio when making the decision to watch the film.
Peter Michael Rosza and Conor Woulfe alleged in a suit filed last year that they watched the trailer for Yesterday and thought that de Armas played a substantial role in the romantic comedy. At this rate, director Wes Anderson is well on his way to establishing himself among the ranks of Steven Spielberg, Steven Soderbergh, and other filmmakers (who hopefully have names other than "Steven S.") that routinely cause moviegoers to wonder how on Earth they have enough time to release as many movies in such a short amount of time as they do. The last few years alone have seen the "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" director deliver "Isle of Dogs," "The French Dispatch," and this year's "Asteroid City." But if you thought he was done, well, guess again!

New Delhi, Aug 23 (Ians) Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh expressed disappointment at the exclusion of leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal from the Asia Cup squad, saying his presence in the team for the six-team event was necessary and hoped that a return to the Odi side wasn’t closed on him.
For India’s squad in the Asia Cup, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are the spinners in the tournament happening from August 30 to September 17. Notably, all three are left-arm spinners, though Kuldeep is a wrist-spinner, as opposed to Chahal, who is a right-arm leg-spinner.
“The one thing I feel is lacking in the team is the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal. A leg-spinner who can get the ball to turn away. If you talk about genuine spinner, I don’t think there’s any spinner in India better than Chahal in white-ball formats. Yes, his last few games weren’t good,...

Four years and a global pandemic later, and the sci-fi anthology Black Mirror is finally returning to Netflix. According to Netflix, season 6 is set to be the “most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet” of the series. As Black Mirror has taken off in popularity, the show has become almost as well-known for its A-list cast as it has for its satirical takes on our world.
