We’re nearing the end of “World of Dance” season four. Tuesday night’s “The Semi-Finals 2” was the penultimate episode, and it decided who would advance to the World Final the very next night. So who got the nod from judges Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough and Ne-Yo? Scroll down for our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
In last week’s “Semi-Finals 1,” salsa duo Jefferson y Adrianita and dark horse French team Geometrie Variable earned the first two spots in the World Final, outscoring contemporary soloist Kurtis Sprung, nine-year-old jazz dancer Savannah Manzel and Canadian hip-hop crew The Young Cast and Grvmnt. Both teams that advanced that night were from the Upper Division. No one from the Junior Division has yet qualified for the last round.

After weeks in the scaled-down warehouse set, “World of Dance” finally advanced to its main stage on Tuesday night, August 4. Six Upper Division acts and six Junior Division acts advanced to the Semi-Finals as we inch closer to the million-dollar finale. So who was up to this latest challenge? Find out below in our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
The previous three seasons of “World of Dance” took place entirely on the main stage, from the Qualifiers to the World Final. This season’s format gives us — and of course the judges — an opportunity to consider each act in different contexts. How good are they on a spare stage with no bells and whistles and no audience, as they were in this year’s Qualifiers? And then how well are they able to scale up their routines to fit the heightened energy and intensity of the studio space?...

“World of Dance” is getting closer and closer to the main stage. On July 28, “The Duels 4” completed this round of the competition for the Junior Division with two final battles: Keagan Capps vs. Maddy Penny and James and Harris vs. Bailey and Kida. Then of course there’s also the redemption round where guest judge Stephen “Twitch” Boss chooses two of the losing acts from the division to get a second chance. Scroll down for our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
In “The Duels 3” on July 21, three acts won their head-to-head battles and earned a spot in the upcoming Semi-Finals: the contemporary trio Mdc 3, nine-year-old jazz dancer Savannah Manzel and Canadian hip-hop crew Grvmnt. They defeated, respectively, the fusion team Chibi Unity, the Latin ballroom troupe 305 and the hip-hop crew The Young Cast; those three will hope to get the nod from Twitch for a...

The Junior Division group 305 knows what it’s like to dance for their lives. Their performance during the Qualifiers round wasn’t quite enough to convince the judges, so they returned for the Callbacks and earned their spot in the Duels. And the 10-member Latin dance troupe certainly had numbers on their side in their head-to-head face-off against nine-year-old jazz soloist Savannah Manzel. Did they prove themselves yet again? Watch their performance above.
They danced to Demi Lovato‘s “Confident,” and that was certainly an apt musical choice for their passionate, aggressive routine. “Well done,” said Derek Hough, which is high praise in and of itself since he himself is a Latin ballroom dance specialist. “I see you guys stepping it up,” he added, and he praised their “fiery paso doble battle mode.” Jennifer Lopez thought it was a “good routine. I love the presentation. I loved some of the formations.

Nine-year-old jazz dancer Savannah Manzel wowed the “World of Dance” judges during the Qualifiers with her incredible flexibility, range of motion, and acrobatic athleticism, but Jennifer Lopez wasn’t sure a dancer so young would have the emotional presence to really connect to her music. Well, the judges didn’t go easy on her during the Duels. They pitted the pint-sized soloist against 305, a large Latin dance troupe. And Manzel was almost tripped up during her routine by her own equipment. Did she have the composure to withstand those challenges? Watch her routine above.
Manzel’s tricks were so fast and furious that her microphone pack came loose from her costume and dangled precariously from her leg while she was in the middle of a spin. It could have caused injury if it tripped her up during one of her more dangerous maneuvers, so they had her stop to resolve...

The “World of Dance” Duels are half over. The Upper Division ended their head-to-head battles on July 14, so it was time for the Junior Division (consisting of dancers under the age of 18) to face off on July 21. So which kids and adolescents rose to the top, and who still had some growing up to do? Scroll down for our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
The Duels are pretty simple. Two acts are pitted against each other, and judges Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo and Derek Hough decide who wins and advances to the Semi-Finals. Majority rules, so you only need two of them to pick you in order to advance. But there’s still a chance to move forward even if you don’t win your Duel. Guest judge Stephen “Twitch” Boss, of “So You Think You Can Dance” fame, gets to pick two losing acts who deserve another chance.

“There’s nothing like real chemistry,” says Jennifer Lopez after watching urban duo Josh and Erica perform to “Mount Everest” by Labrinth during the Qualifiers on “World of Dance.” The third tryouts episode of season four airs tonight, June 9, but NBC shared a special sneak peak of this performance online. Watch it above.
“Real chemistry is something that you can’t manufacture,” Lopez added. “There were some very strong moves in there when they really work with the musicality of your song. When you hit it the right way it really worked. Extremely powerful.” Ne-Yo added, “There’s no question whatsoever whether or not you guys are quality dancers,” but his issue was that “there needs to be something more” than just good dancing. “I like how hard you guys hit,” but he didn’t think they always matched each other’s intensity.

After two weeks of Qualifiers, season four of “World of Dance” has shown us more than a dozen acts with potential to win the million-dollar grand prize this season. We’ve asked our readers each week which act they thought was the best. And their favorites were jazz dance prodigy Savannah Manzel in week one and ballet duo Styles and Emma in week two. Do they have the makings of world champions? No one from either dance style has gone all the way before. Scroll down for our complete poll results.
The first three seasons of the show were all won by hip-hop acts, albeit with their own unique stylistic and cultural inflections: the French pair Les Twins in season one, the American junior crew The Lab in season two and the Indian team The Kings in season three. And the runners-up were contemporary dancers every time: Eva Igo, Michael Dameski and Unity La,...

“World of Dance” returned for its fourth season last week with some new twists and format changes, including surprising the contestants during their warehouse auditions. But the first day’s performers weren’t thrown off by the presence of Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough and Ne-Yo crashing their preliminary tryouts. So how did the next group handle it during “The Qualifiers 2”? Find out below in our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
This year’s Qualifiers diverge from previous seasons not just in having the judges evaluate dancers at the warehouse set. There’s also a different judging system. Instead of scoring performances from 0 to 100, the judges look at an act and simply tell them yes to send them through to the next round, the Duels, or no to send them packing. There’s a third option too: a call-back for acts that almost pass muster but...

World of Dance is shaking up its format: The NBC competition series returned for Season 4 on Tuesday with a couple of tweaks.
In the first Qualifiers episode, the contestants think they’re about to audition one final time for producers in a warehouse, but when they step through the door, they’re greeted by judges Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough and Ne-Yo. Instead of making their debut before the trio and viewers on the World of Dance stage, the dancers must now perform under pressure and earn their way onto the stage. And since they had no idea they were about to dance for the judges,...
