The end is near for the gang at West Beverly Hills as TVLine revealed that 90210 will end this season. Ratings have been so bad this season the only debate about 90210's future was if it would end this season or if it would get a farewell season like Gossip Girl did.

Footballer DeSean Jackson is apologizing for calling a radio show caller a "gay ass faggot." What strikes me is that immediately after the incident, he tweeted like this "They Lookn 2 Take Ya Down At All Times No Matter How Positive And What U Do!! Its Always Away They Try To Get Ya.... Im Standin Tall" but now that he's apologizing he tweets like this "I am sorry for using words that I know to be hurtful and unacceptable in a recent radio interview. Intolerance is unacceptable and I apologize to anyone I have offended. ... I have made a mistake and would like to make it clear that words I used meant no disrespect to the Gay and Lesbian community." I'm no forensics expert, but I do get paid to write, and those tweets have very different voices.

The popular geo-location app grew its total user base as it transitioned from nonprofit to for-profit--having more users to give to charity in the process.
In a fascinating case study of how the for-profit industry can sometimes make a greater social impact than the nonprofit world, Shopkick, a popular geo-location app, has paradoxically created a more charitable community since it decided to ditch its charity business model and focus on giving people free stuff. The app rewards users with virtual currency for completing various check-in tasks at selected retailers which can then be redeemed for products or used to give equivalently to a charity. But it began as CauseWorld, a similar check-in app where users could only give their points to nonprofits, rather than the gift cards and discounts they can now also redeem under Shopkick.

The shoe company wants to take its model for tying consumption to helping the developing world far beyond just canvas footwear. First up: these $135 hand-painted sunglasses.
Toms Shoes--the canvas shoe company that pioneered the "buy one, give one" model now copied by nearly everyone--is debuting a brand new "one for one" idea called Toms Glasses. Buy one pair and people in the developing world, who have just as bad vision as we do but little access to ophthalmologists, will get free glasses, medical treatment or surgery.
Could it mean a change of title for founder Blake Mycoskie, Toms's Chief Shoe Giver? (We kid.) Mycoskie says that his travels in the developing world revealed a new problem: "What we've seen with our shoes is that they really help people with two basic needs: education and being able to work and have a livelihood." After seeing countless impoverished children without shoes in Argentina, Blake Mycoskie started Toms Shoes in 2006 with a simple idea: if you buy one pair of shoes, Toms gives one pair of shoes to someone who needs them. In the past four years it's become a much buzzed-about company, making Fast Company's list earlier this year of the Ten Most Innovative Retail Companies, and Mycoskie has become a leader in the social entrepreneurship landscape. This September the company celebrated a major milestone, giving away its one millionth pair of shoes. Blake talked with Fast Company about the past, present and future of Toms.
David Burstein: What was your big idea?
Blake Mycoskie: I always knew I wanted to incorporate giving in my business but it was a matter of finding the right way to do so. My big idea with Toms was creating a sustainable way of giving, blending business and philanthropy.

Blake Mycoskie, the exuberant founder of Toms, has big ideas and an even bigger heart. He founded the shoe company four years ago, based on a simple and effective “one for one” model: for every pair of shoes sold, a pair is donated to a child in need. Today, the handsome 34-year-old approaches his organization with the same contagious enthusiasm he exhibited when his dream was just a vision.
