For more than 30 years, the sport of human chess in the squared circle has long been a favorite for video game programmers. There’s been pro-wrestling games on almost every video game system released from 1983′s arcade game “Tag Team Wrestling” (aka The Big Pro Wrestling!”) by Technos Japan to Absolute Entertainment’s “Title Match Pro Wrestling” on the Atari 2600 to the succinctly titled Nes “Pro Wrestling” (A Winner is You!) to exceptionally popular series such as “Fire Pro Wrestling” to modern multi-platform installments in franchises such as “WWE 2K14″.
Counting examples of “real life” wrestlers can be a challenging and subjective process. Should 1985′s Mat Mania “The Golden Hullk” and Super Fire Pro Wrestling Premium X’s “Ax Duggan” count towards Hulk Hogan? Are you counting both computer releases and video game consoles? With Create-a-Wrestler and Character packs, what’s the proper count? How do you handle...

When Fdr uttered the immortal line: “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” he clearly had not tangled with a crocodile, stumbled upon a King Cobra, or swam with a Great White shark. Many horror films, if not all of them, take cues from the real world, from science, from nature, from the terror that exists on this planet that Mother Nature has created. What can we conclude? Mother Nature clearly hates the human race. How else can you explain vampire bats and piranhas? The world is full of deadly, horrifying creatures.
Many people are terrified of spiders, others of snakes (Indiana Jones is perhaps the most famous snake hater), and some can’t dip a toe into a pool because of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws. There are those that are scared of everything, and lastly, there are the foolish few who say they fear nothing, but...

Brothers & Sisters and Six Feet Under alumna Rachel Griffiths is returning to series television as the lead of NBC 10-episode summer series Camp, from creators Liz Heldens and Peter Elkoff, BermanBraun and Universal TV. In the tradition of Meatballs and Dazed And Confused, Little Hawk Family Camp is a wicked slice of lake-side heaven. In the one-hour dramedy, parents decompress with gin while teenagers make gleeful mischief and fall in and out of love. Griffiths will play the camp’s director Mackenzie Greenfield, who is reeling from being left by her husband for a younger woman. Brent Sexton, who is coming off AMC’s The Killing, will co-star opposite Blair Underwood in NBC’s drama pilot Ironside. The reboot of the 1967 detective drama, from writer Mike Caleo and Universal TV, centers on Robert T. Ironside (Underwood), a tough, sexy and acerbic police detective relegated to a wheelchair after a shooting...

First I would like to begin with a brief review of Warhawk. Warhawk is one of my favourite games of this generation, Why? because it was pure and it was simple. From the characature-esqu style of the game to the variety of maps. No where else could you fly over a destroyed capital city, or jump your way around a paradise archipelego. Weapons were tactically placed as were the vehicles. Defending the flag was as much of a joy a was capturing the opposing teams. It had charm and was simple. You could pick up, play, and put down again, having had a laugh with your pals all the way through. It didn’t take itself seriously and kamikaze runs to the enemies base was a normal tactic of mine. It was almost like playing army in the playground when you were a child.
And so, when news hit me of a sequel,...

It’s that time again… okay, it’s a little past that normal time, thanks to the Mix March Madness wrapup, but here are the preview materials for DC Comics releases for July 2012.
What’s on tap this month? More of the Before Watchmen books, with the debut of Ozymandias from Len Wein and Jae Lee, the conclusion of the Court of Owls storyline and crossover in all the Bat-books, and the debut of the done-in-one book, National Comics, featuring the New 52 Debut (coming right at you) of Eternity.
And in the white elephant of desire category, there’s the $300 statue showing the climactic scene from The Dark Knight Returns.
Once more, into the breach? Banzai!
As always, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

From the time that “Disney’s Folly” paid off and the first-ever animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, became a hit, Disney (the company that Walt created) has been in the business of telling fairy tales. What we sometimes forget is that fairy tales can be stories that reassure children, but also stories that scare the bejeezus out of them. Case in point, the first film that I ever saw: Walt Disney’s Bambi, a film that also terrified Stephen King as a child.
The Herbie series is much more on the reassuring side of the spectrum than the scary side,...

House | Are you sitting down? Because I’m going to kick off this week’s column by dropping on you the seemingly telltale title of the episode Hugh Laurie will be directing. 2012 will be the first year that GeekTrant will invade WonderCon, mostly due to the fact that it was moved down to Anaheim, CA this year which is right in our backyard. We're all pretty excited about attending this year, as we've heard it's a much smaller more intimate version of San Diego Comic Con.
WonderCon is set to open on Friday, March 16th and run through Sunday, March 18th at the Anaheim Convention Center. If you plan on attending let us know, and maybe we can meet up and hang out for a bit!
I've put stars next to the panels we are interested in attending. Check out the schedule, and let us know what you are looking forward to seeing most!

12:30-1:30 Idw Presents: The Idw Panel!— Chief creative officer Chris Ryall and sergeant of marketing Dirk Wood, give out prizes, make announcements, and evade questions!

Once again, a look into the future, with some very interesting looks at the past, including the reprinting of a comic that was never released in America in the first place, the infamous Elseworlds 80 Page Giant that was pulped because of concerns about Superman’s babysitter.
And of course, a whole lot of #3 issues, which is traditionally the issue where Spider-Man guest stars.
Shall we? Surely!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

Here it is. The full 52 titles that DC Will debut at the end of the summer. There are a lot of exciting new beginnings for old favorites like Swamp Thing and Sgt. Rock, and the whole lineup is chock full of some of the greatest names in the business. I’m a little disappointed that DC burned 11 of its new titles on the Bat-family alone. That seems a little bit of a waste. Especially since 4 of those titles actually feature Bruce Wayne/Batman in them. I love Bats as much as the next guy, but 4 titles? Really? I thought the whole renumbering was supposed to fix things like that.
In any event, here are the 52. I’m pretty excited all around. Let me hear your thoughts in the comments below.

The fantasy genre has gotten a bad rep over the years and I think I know why. Too many factions of role players, larpers and W.O.W-ers have joined forces over the world wide web to become this massive, unstoppable goliath of an easy target. What was once little groups of in-the-know outcasts playing Magic in highschool hallways is so visible that they've turned it into an easy punchline for bad comedians and films like Role Models or Your Highness to take a stab at. But That's just my theory.
The other downside to fantasy's perceived dorkery is I think it's led to a slowing down of mainstream fantasy film production and the films that do get made that fully embrace their fantasy roots either get savages by critics or dumped onto SyFy. Lord of the Rings is really the only series of films I can think of that got through unscathed.

A Federal judge in Philadelphia has ruled in favor of a group of middle school kids who criticized their school for banning Breast Cancer Awareness bracelets featuring the slogan “I (Heart) Boobies!”: The ruling by U.S. District Judge Mary McLaughlin was a victory for Easton Area Middle School students Brianna Hawk, 13, and Kayla Martinez, 12, who were suspended for flouting the school’s ban on the bracelets — reading “I (heart) Boobies! (Keep A Breast)” — Oct. 28, which was Breast Cancer Awareness Day, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Wednesday. “The bracelets are intended to be and they can reasonably be viewed as speech designed to raise awareness of breast cancer and to reduce the stigma associated with openly discussing breast health,” McLaughlin wrote in her ruling. Awesome! That’s an extra-huge victory, considering that schools ban everything ever. My Middle School instantly banned anything that became the slightest bit popular, no matter...

Catch .44
Opens: 2011
Cast: Forest Whitaker, Bruce Willis, Malin Akerman, Nikki Reed, Deborah Ann Woll

Visibility Matters is a monthly-ish column by AfterEllen.com Founder Sarah Warn about larger trends affecting lesbian/bi women in entertainment and the media.
Visibility Matters: Entertaining the Future
Lesbian/bi visibility in entertainment today is a mass of contradictions. It's both better and worse than it was when I started writing about it more than seven years ago.
There are more lesbian talk show hosts than ever before on network TV, but still very few fictional lesbian characters on broadcast or cable TV.
We now have well-developed, prominent lesbian characters and superheroes in comics — from Willow to Batwoman — but even the most minor lesbian characters are missing from, or "straightened out" in, most studio theatrical releases. Sometimes an entire lesbian subculture is de-gayed, as demonstrated in Whip It.
Female musicians are coming out left and right as gay or bisexual, as we saw when Brandi Carlile finally confirmed last week that she's a lesbian,...

I was disheartened by Paramount.s decision not to show .G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. to critics. The studio chose to screen the Hasbro-based film to fans. Upon seeing the movie, I realized why Paramount kept the film from the prying eyes of critics. .G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. is the campiest movie I.ve seen this year since the Beyonce Knowles and Ali Larter starrer .Obsessed..

Chicago – ABC is still struggling to find the next big hit to stand next to monsters like “Lost,” “Desperate Housewives,” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” and they decided to give Nathan Fillion & Stana Katic’s “Castle” a shot at hit status, but cancelled several other new shows, including “The Unusuals” and “Cupid”.
ABC announced their fall schedule today and made a few surprise choices, bringing back the increasingly interesting “Castle” and giving another chance to “Better Off Ted” and “True Beauty”.
Perhaps the most surprising move, especially considering the show’s poignant and excellent series finale, has to be the return of “Scrubs,” which will be back for midseason. They also announced 11 new series for fall and midseason.
