Bengaluru, May 22 (Ians) Royal Challengers Bangalore head coach Sanjay Bangar believes things just were ‘not clicking’ for veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik to bring out his famed finishing knocks for the franchise in Ipl 2023.
Karthik’s failure to get finishing kicks for the team in Ipl 2023 hurt Bangalore a lot, apart from meagre returns from other middle-order batters too. In Ipl 2022, Karthik hit 330 runs at a strike rate of 183.33 in 16 matched and helped the side get desired finishing touches to their innings, which also paved his way into India’s squad for 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
“We tried to define the role for him. We made sure that he was walking in at the moments or in the phases where his strengths could have been maximised. And he had an outstanding season (last year). So I don’t think that his efforts or his preparation or the role...

In the tournament, du Plessis, Kohli and Glenn Maxwell were highly touted as the big three for scoring a bulk of runs for the franchise and leading them to victories. With no Rajat Patidar in the batting line-up due to a heel injury which needed surgical intervention in England, the likes of Dinesh Karthik, Mahipal Lomror, Anuj Rawat and Shahbaz Ahmed failed to get big runs consistently and were unable to provide the required support to top three batters.

“With this new Impact Player rule, you can be so flexible. We have batted well in the top four, and we have done the bulk of the scoring. Kedar Jadhav — the old man, he comes back for us,...

Lucknow, May 2 (Ians) Josh Hazlewood and Karn Sharma picked two wickets each in a superb bowling performance on a sluggish black soil pitch as Royal Challengers Bangalore defended a modest 126 and beat Lucknow Super Giants by 18 runs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Apart from the duo, Mohammed Siraj, Glenn Maxwell, Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel took a wicket each to bowl out Bangalore for 108 in 19.5 overs as Lucknow’s batters didn’t show any application and patience for stitching partnerships to chase down a small total.
The win has also taken Bangalore to ten points and fifth place on a better net run rate, while Lucknow have slipped to third place but still have ten points. Bangalore had an early breakthrough on the second ball of their defence as Kyle Mayers pulled straight to mid-on against Siraj. Krunal Pandya injects some momentum...

Lucknow, May 1 (Ians) Stellar efforts from fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq and the leg-spin duo of Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra helped Lucknow Super Giants restrict Royal Challengers Bangalore to a modest 126/9 in 20 overs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday.
On a challenging black soil pitch, Bangalore began their innings well by not losing wickets in the Power-play. But as the innings progressed, they kept losing wickets as Naveen picked 3-30 while Bishnoi and Mishra had identical figures of 2-21 to tie down Bangalore.
Barring a 44 from captain Faf du Plessis, Bangalore’s batters weren’t given any breathing space to break the shackles and could only hit eight boundaries in their innings, the lowest by any team in Ipl 2023 till now.
On the first ball of the innings, Krunal Pandya got a turn and bounce, showing signs of what would come in the game.

The franchise has opted to not name a replacement for now. The likes of Anuj Rawat, Suyash Prabhudessai and Mahipal Lomror are some of the Indian options Rcb have in the squad to fill the void.
“Rajat Patidar will not take part in Ipl 2023. Rcb wish Rajat Patidar a speedy recovery and will continue to support him during the process,” the franchise said in a statement.

Bengaluru, April 2 (Ians) Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl first against Mumbai Indians in their first match of Ipl 2023 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, here on Sunday.
Rcb are playing their first match in their home ground after three years of absence and are coming into the competition on the back of making the playoffs in the last three seasons.
Mumbai, on the other hand, are coming after a bottom place finish in last year’s tournament.
After winning the toss, Faf said he, Michael Bracewell, Glenn Maxwell, and Reece Topley are the overseas players in Rcb playing eleven.
“There was a bit of dew when we practised. We have been so excited to get started tonight. This is one of the great stadiums to play cricket in,” he said.
“Our first goal is to make those playoffs, and follow the processes.

New Delhi, Jan 20 (Ians) Fifty-seven players have been released by eight Indian Premier League (Ipl) franchises ahead of the 2021 auction, to be held next month. They include Mumbai Indians' fast bowling great Lasith Malinga, former Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith, Chennai Super Kings (Csk) off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, and Kings XI Punjab all-rounder Glenn Maxwell.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) have released the most number of players, 10, though it is noteworthy that among them are wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel, who announced his retirement from all cricket recently, and veteran South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn, who had opted out of the Ipl in the first week of this month.
Delhi Capitals said in a statement that they have traded all-rounders Harshal Patel and Daniel Sams to Rcb. They are, however, yet to name the players that would possibly come from Rcb as part of the trading window, which is open until about a week before the auction.

New Delhi, Jan 14 (Ians) Opener Mohammed Azharuddeen cracked the second-fastest T20 century -- 100 off 37 balls -- to help Kerala maul host Mumbai by eight wickets in an Elite E match of the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Wednesday. Although Azharuddeen missed by a mere five balls the record of Rishabh Pant, his effort was the joint-third-fastest century by an Indian.
Chasing Mumbai's 196 for seven wickets in 20 overs, Kerala made 201 for the loss of just two wickets in just 15.5 overs and collected four points at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Thanks to Azharuddeen's 54-ball 137 not out, Kerala posted their highest total of the tournament while chasing a target.
Azharuddeen, 26, who became the first Kerala player to score a century in the tournament, scored the runs at an amazing strike rate of 253.70, thanks to nine boundaries and 11 sixes, as he and guest player Robin Uthappa (33 off 23 balls) added 129 run for the opening wicket.

Dubai, Oct 31 (Ians/GloFans) Consecutive wins in their last two matches have given Rajasthan Royals (Rr) hope for qualifying for the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (Ipl) and the Steve Smith-led team will aim to capitalise from the situation when they face a deflated Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) here on Sunday.
Both Rr (bet run rate -0.377) and Kkr (-0.467) have equal 12 points each from 13 games. However, it is Rr's superior net run-rate that gives them an edge. Rr will be looking for a big win to stay ahead in middle of the jam-packed table with every team, except Chennai Super Kings (Csk), still afloat.
Ben Stokes and Sanju Samson rediscovering their form has been the catalyst for Rr in their recent matches while skipper Smith, Robin Uthappa, and Jos Buttler were also handy with the bat in their game against Kings XI Punjab.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 29 (Ians/GloFans) With five wins on the trot, a rejuvenated Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) will look to further boost their playoff hopes when they face Rajasthan Royals (Rr) in the 50th match of the Indian Premier League (Ipl) on Friday.
While Kxip (12 points) have turned it around after going on a dismal run in the first half of the season, Rr (10 points) have been wildly inconsistent in the latter half of the season and desperately need a win to be alive in the race for the playoffs season at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
Kxip captain Kl Rahul (595 runs from 12 matches) has been leading the batting from the front and has received good support from his opening partner Mayank Agarwal, who missed last two games due to bruised knee.
